| thevelvetcure | posted 30-Mar-2004 4:54pm Out of the choices provided, I'm nominating "Where's Sven" Maybe uses those upside down question marks before and after the name |
| Cain | posted 30-Mar-2004 5:26pm I like Since and The Novembers.
You've picked a good place to find names, I got the name of my dog from doing a survey! |
| freebird | posted 30-Mar-2004 5:39pm I like Silverleaf and Since: Don't really know why Silverleaf sounds good off the tongue and Since is simple but different. Is there a reason that The Silkweeds is not what you want to keep. Sounds like you all are putting out some great sounds though. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!! |
| anonymous | posted 30-Mar-2004 5:40pm Other: SmokinWeed, Where's the weed?, GimmesomeWeed, Iweeweed, WeedEater, PullaWeed, Yardofweeds. I like all of those ones. |
| Maarten | posted 30-Mar-2004 5:45pm Silvergirl and Silverleaf.
There are way too many bands starting with 'the'. |
| cerealkiller | posted 30-Mar-2004 6:04pm Back in the 60's when I was a lead guitar player the bands I played in were called The Overlords, The Children of Syn and A Lemon Fog. I knew and saw alot of bands that were local to our area just as we were, like REO Speedwagon. Just locals kids then. Guess they made it and we didn't.
Don't care much for your names. Why so many starting with "S"? Band names are hard to pick I think. |
| Enheduanna | posted 30-Mar-2004 6:23pm I like Silvergirl best of these. I don't like The Silkweeds because it brings to mind Meryl Streep (whom I like just fine but don't want to think about in association with your band). Silvergirl sounds...I don't know, nymphic or something. Since you have a female lead vocalist, it works. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 30-Mar-2004 6:24pm I'm leaning towards "Silverleaf" and "Silverweeds", but "Silvergirl" isn't bad either. |
| Galomorro | posted 30-Mar-2004 8:37pm Silverleaf. |
| Amanda | posted 30-Mar-2004 9:23pm I liked Silvergirl the best.
How about Morning Wood? |
| Zang | posted 30-Mar-2004 9:29pm I like five of them. In order of preference:
1. November 2. Silkweed 3. Silverleaf 4. Silvergirl 5. Silverweed |
| CarolL | posted 30-Mar-2004 9:42pm I haven't looked at what the others have said yet, but I think a really good name for the type of band you are is, simply, Silken. It is easily spelled, and it can have sexy undertones, but still support the Christian thread that runs through the music. It can be extrapolated to mean Silking (sexy), Silken (smooth) and does not offend on any level.
Silkweed doesn't have a very good reputation of its own, so I wouldn't adopt that one. Silvergirl, Silverleaf are trying too hard without much imagination. Creve Coeur doesn't appeal to the english speaking fans you are trying to capture. Since sounds too much like Sinns, unless you are going for that type of audience. And because it is so phonetically ambiguous, people will not be able to find reviews of your music if they are not entirely sure of your name. Where's Sven makes me think of looking for the masseur. The Novembers is Okay, but doesn't strike the heart of me. The Sandiskies is like "wtf does that mean" The Silverweeds is Okay. I like it. |

| Amanda | (reply to ElvisFan67) posted 30-Mar-2004 11:09pm I like Morning Wood. It was always a joke with me and my ex and his son wrote a poem about morning wood. Very funny. I'll have to find it and post it. |
| they | posted 30-Mar-2004 11:50pm Other.
I saw a someone's screen name the other day that cracked me up and I haven't been able to get out of my head.. It would make an excellent name for your band: "FudgeTard" |
| they | (reply to cerealkiller) posted 30-Mar-2004 11:54pm In highschool, there were some kids who had a rock band called "Overlord".. they played at people's houses for parties and things. It was pretty hardcore music. |
| they | posted 30-Mar-2004 11:54pm Since is cool too. |
| Irene007 | posted 31-Mar-2004 1:55am I like Crève Coeur but most of the world wouldn't pronounce it properly...
I really like Where's Sven! Something surely inspired this name and I already would like to know what did! Reporters always ask this question! I would be very eager to help but I really need to hear a song or two. Any I can download from somewhere? Can you e-mail me an MP3? |
| Irene007 | (reply to thevelvetcure) posted 31-Mar-2004 1:57am "however I'm pretty sure that you live in Illinois or Montana"
Now how did you deduce that? BTW - We picked the same names! |
| Irene007 | (reply to Cain) posted 31-Mar-2004 2:00am What's your dog's name?
I got the an original idea for bonbonieres here, for my daughter's wedding. Lilly333 inspired me! |

| Irene007 | (reply to Zang) posted 31-Mar-2004 2:04am I dunno... I didn't like the "silver" anything. Reminds me too much of a band called the Silver Beatles. And guess what part of their name they dropped? |
| Violet | posted 31-Mar-2004 2:09am I do like the Silkweeds best. It's catchy, rolls off the tongue nicely, and isn't as cutesy, trendy or pretentious as some of the others. "Where's Sven" makes me giggle, but it would almost guarantee one-hit-wonder status. Nobody would take you seriously at all (and you do want to be taken somewhat seriously, right?) |
| timothy | (reply to Irene007) posted 31-Mar-2004 2:48am Where's Sven came from a line in the movie Titanic. The part where Jack Dawson boards the ship and is in his room. Jack won the ticket from a guy name Sven. And when Jack shows up, the two guys who were already there looked confused. One said to the other "Where's Sven". As far as mp3s we only have basement practice tapes for now, but are about to record our first cd. I can talk to our guitar player about getting something on mp3 to email ya. Thanks |
| timothy | (reply to Violet) posted 31-Mar-2004 2:52am That is my personal concern with "Where's Sven |
| timothy | (reply to freebird) posted 31-Mar-2004 2:58am We're just unsure. The Silkweed is actually a modified name. We were going to be called The Weeds. But there were to many drug associations with the Weeds and the was a band in the 60's (although they weren't very big) named the Weeds. So when we went with the Silkweeds, we thought it would take care of the problem, but being so close to those two names all the time, we feel that we needed outside opinions. I do like Silverleaf and Silvergirl, but again, we want to know what you guys think. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to they) posted 31-Mar-2004 4:47am Who was that country singer you talked to when we worked at Directv? |
| saintange | posted 31-Mar-2004 4:55am Crève Coeur. |
| thevelvetcure | (reply to Irene007) posted 31-Mar-2004 6:12am Well, like I said, Creve Coeur sounds good, so I did a search on it, and apparently it's a city/town in both states |
| judgescratch | posted 31-Mar-2004 7:13am I can't help it...When I read your band's profile, I somehow automatically thought of a cover band from the 80's called Crystal Ship (the Dead Milkmen mention them in a song and call them Crystal Sh**). I just think that THAT's a good name for you, but it's taken.
Okay, so as for your options. I think that your default isn't bad (Silkweeds), and the Sven one is catchy and the Sandiskies is okay if it's pronounced san-DIS-kees, rather than like "Sandy Skies. |
| Irene007 | (reply to timothy) posted 31-Mar-2004 7:58am Great! Looking forward to it! |
| Irene007 | (reply to thevelvetcure) posted 31-Mar-2004 8:00am Really? How interesting - it's French for "heart break"... What a strange name for a town. |
| thevelvetcure | (reply to Irene007) posted 31-Mar-2004 8:11am I thought it was French, but had no clue. Now I'm definitely nominating it as my first choice now |

| freebird | (reply to timothy) posted 31-Mar-2004 10:45am I like Silverleaf and Since. but you all know what you want. I am surprised though, didn't know you are a musician. What do you play? I can't play any instrument or even sing. I sing anyway, though. |

| timothy | (reply to thevelvetcure) posted 31-Mar-2004 12:38pm Yes, Creve Coeur means broken heart or affliction in french. It is also a near by neighborhood from us in Missouri. |
| timothy | (reply to freebird) posted 31-Mar-2004 12:44pm I play guitar and bass, some drums. I did some solo stuff too, but I don't sing well. In this band I play bass and keep my mouth shut |

I'm glad I could help!! |
| Iseult | posted 31-Mar-2004 2:58pm From the suggestions I like 'Silverleaf' the most. I am not really fan of band names that go 'The' some word which is in plural. I have very few bands on my play list that have such name. The exception is The Smiths, but I avoided them for a very long time because I don't like how the concept of their name sounds.
I always wanted to name my band (which will never happen, I'm sure) 'Nietzsche Is Not a Nihilist'. You can shorten it into NINN. |
| timothy | (reply to judgescratch) posted 31-Mar-2004 3:12pm Crystal ships I like very much, but like you said it's taken, my idea was to pitch the name wooden ships to the band this Saturday. |
| timothy | (reply to CarolL) posted 31-Mar-2004 3:14pm I'll mention Silken to the band this Saturday and see what they think. Thanks |
| timothy | (reply to CarolL) posted 31-Mar-2004 3:16pm What about Silvern for a name? Not that we are obsessed with the word silver. In fact there is no reason why we picked silver except for getting Silvergirl from a line out of Bridge over Troubled water from Simon and Garfunkel. |
| judgescratch | (reply to timothy) posted 31-Mar-2004 3:38pm Crystal Ship (singular) was taken.
But Crystal Ships (plural), well, now, that's a horse of a different color! In any case....let us know what happens. |
