When you were in middle school, were you one of the "popular" kids?

"Popular" is described in The Oxford American Desk Dictionary as "Liked or admired by many people or a specific group; of or carried on by the general public; adapted to the understanding, taste, or means of the people". You can answer the question based on that meaning and the assumption that middle school is when you were 11-14 years of age.

Neither popular or unpopular I think.

Before I was very unpopular (elementary),and most of them hated me.
After (high school ) I was pretty popular I suppose. Lots of people I didn't know knew me, and most of them liked me.

I had some popularity but I didn't realize it until later. Turns out that cute Donato, who I considered too good looking and out of my league, had a crush on me!! Darn it!
I had a few girls trying real hard to suck up to me, I didn't understand it then but they just wanted to be part of a group that was, considered by them an "in" crowd.
Ha! During all that time, I felt like I was the one on the outside looking in! That period of our life can be really confusing ...

Not popular, but I recall having a lot of respect among the nerds... I seem to recall thinking to myself "king of the nerds" at times.

Junior high was so tough. I was a mess and a definite nerd. I didn't "come into my own" until tenth grade. I wouldn't relive middle school for anything!

Uhhh....No. Not popular. But not a major total geek, either. Just one of those 'middle' people. One of the "fillers". * wink *

Definitely one of the in between-ers. Popular within my own large social group, and that was too much for me! If I could re-do it, I probably would have done what came naturally to me, and remained a loner.

It's not that I can't remember, but that I didn't care. I had a lot of friends, but I am not sure that I was popular.

I'm afraid the concept is completely lost on me. I have no memory of ever being conscious of my "popularity". It wasn't something that I aspired to. Nor was it a quality which I ever recognised in others. When I was 11-14 it was 1973-1976. In those days, schools didn't have an efficient system to rate the popularity of the students. We didn't have the applause-o-meter, or popularity polls or such things. The technology was in its infancy. It wasn't as advanced, nor was it affordable like it is today. We had to go to school without any clear or decisive understanding of just how popular we were. Kids today just don't know how good they have it.

I'm not sure. I had a lot of friends, if that's what you mean. I didn't do things just to be considered popular. I did my own thing. If it was the "cool" thing to do, great; if not, I didn't care. I did what made me happy.

I guess. I was a cheerleader and student council member. Pep Club all that jazz you know. But today I see the actual stupidity in all that "junior high/high school" stuff. man that was a tough time, wasn't it.

I wasn't all that "popular", per si, although well-respected most of the time. I often dreamed of it, though. * smile *

I aquired a lot of friends but I was transplanted from Chicago to this tiny town in Missouri, and people had a hard time understanding me because of my accent, which was a mixure of english and machine gun spanish. ( I talked realy fast ) And no body knew any any spanish and I had forgotten some of my english, I felt like I may as well have moved to a strange weird planet. Now its been so long since I spoke spanish, I have forgotten most of the spanish.

I was never very popular - from the age of 11 - 14 was my worst period at school, I was bullied really badly. After that I learned just to tell them to piss off.

Middle school? I was very unpopular. I was the weird kid who never talked and had no friends. Who listened to Enigma, Adiemus, and Deep Forest. Who wouldn't go to any field trips. Who would always work alone or with that girl who didn't speak English. Who didn't go to her graduation.

I was okay in Elementary school, and I couldn't care less about the High School. There is that clique of 'ugly girls who think they're pretty' and who go to the States and sport around their Abercrombie and Fitch. I'm okay with most of them. But I wouldn't want to be friends with them. A lot of people know me, but I can't care less whether they like me.

Hopefully, my wee sister is all euphoric because her and her dog friends are 'popular'. Good for her.

Oh yes! Very! ...Well, yes if the definition of the word "popular" means: It was a popular thing to make fun of me, well then yes, I was VERY POPULAR! (still workin this sh*t out)

I wasn't popular because I didn't have the same ambitions as evryone else. I mean, I wanted more out of life than living in the same town, getting married, having kids, and living on welfare. * smile *
