Is carob a good substitute for chocolate?

I wouldn't know, and I'm not a big fan of chocolate either.

I haven't had carob, so I guess I'll have to prefer chocolate.

I prefer chocolate, and from what I've heard carob isn't much better for you than plain old chocolate. It is nice if you're avoiding dairy though.

I prefer both. They both have their unique taste, but I used to get Carob covered raisins/nuts, etc when I was a child, because I had ADHD, thus chocolate enhanced it with all the sugar that's in it.

When I was a kid, I used to love these "sundaes" from a frozen yogurt stand that was actually a health food place. It always got granola, strawberries and bananas on it, plus what I thought for the longest time was chocolate, although it tasted a little funny. I realized later that it was carob, but I still continued to enjoy it. Carob's okay, but there's no substitute for chocolate.

I don't suppose I've tasted carob...if I have, I wasn't aware of it.

Carob is OK. I haven't had it in a while, but a decade or two ago I recall seeing it around and eating it more (I think my mom may have bought it). My vague recollection was that it was close by not as good.
In general, I try to avoid diet foods; I assume Carob is a diet alternative to chocolate (yes, looking it up it's nearly fat free). I'd rather eat the chocolate and perhaps eat less because it is more satisfying to eat the real, fatty, sweet thing.

I prefer chocolate, but, if used well, carob IS a good substitute.

Carob is often sold in the powder form at health food stores. You can use it at 1 for 1 in place of cocoa in recipes. It's taste is akin to chocolate, yet quite different. Interestingly enough, the source of carob is the seed pod from a certain conifer tree.

I missed the nasty part myself but he did try to get something going on between Enheduanna and I by telling me what she supposedly said about where I could shove my sausage! (We were talking about food - I think...) Knowing Enheduanna, it struck me as strange that she would say anything like that, I asked her and we both had a good laugh over it. By this time, he had already been kicked off. He keeps coming back with new nicks, last time he was here - he was Santa! I should have guessed that he was the EasterBunny!
