| Dino | posted 14-Mar-2004 12:56pm I have no trouble - other than it being one of the most popular sizes and therefore the first to run out of stock. |
| Enheduanna | posted 14-Mar-2004 1:32pm Most of the time. |
| LindaH | posted 14-Mar-2004 1:49pm I can find my size, but not my length |
| ASexyBabe | posted 14-Mar-2004 2:11pm I don't know. I have not shopped at any of these places in many many years. I mostly wear mens jeans and T-shirts which ASBT and I share. I am tall for a woman and womens clothing never fit me right. There is no good place for women who are tall or long torsoed or both that I know of. |
| dora | posted 14-Mar-2004 4:34pm I have problems sometimes, but I can find used clothes or clothes that didn't fit anybody at the market.
|
| ROCKMAN | posted 14-Mar-2004 4:59pm I don't have a problem finding my size most of the time. I buy my jeans at one or two places is all. |
| ElvisFan67 | posted 14-Mar-2004 6:20pm Sometimes. Whenever I shop for clothes, I usually look for something available in S, M, L, or XL sizes. I'm not too good with sizes in numbers. |
| Galomorro | posted 14-Mar-2004 8:05pm No, it is difficult to find my size (a 29 or 30 length in pants and a 34-35 waist) and usually a 14-1/2 in a long-sleeved button-front shirt. But I do not shop in regular stores. I shop in thrift stores; thrift store $1.00-a piece of clothing parking lot sales; or garage/yard sales. I think regular clothes prices are too high; if I pay regular prices, it's just once in a while and for things I can't find at the cheaper places, and then usually from an online source. Thrift stores, etc. are difficult many times because there is no tag, especially for trousers/jeans, and if one is buying at a yard sale or parking lot sale, one can't try them on. |
| Sahndya | posted 14-Mar-2004 8:35pm I have no problem finding my size, but finding the right fit (height, shape, etc.) isn't so easy! |
| they | posted 14-Mar-2004 9:15pm My body is not a typical shape. I don't even know what my size is. I mostly buy men's clothes. Fudge clothing manufacturers. |
| Danger | posted 14-Mar-2004 9:52pm sometimes i have problems, but usually it's ok in terms of waist/hips size. i'm only 5'3" though, so everything is extremely long on me. except for capris, which fit like pants that are just a tad bit short. |
| Violet | posted 14-Mar-2004 11:11pm my frame is pretty small, but I have broad shoulders and a kinda wide ribcage, so many tops (especially certain styles) don't fit me perfectly or are entirely unflattering. When I buy a bikini, I always have to get the top in a larger size than the bottom. My problems are even worse now that I'm in Korea, where clothes rarely accommodate my chest or hips. |
| sonikJ | posted 14-Mar-2004 11:43pm Most of the time I don't have any trouble, as I am an average size for a woman (size 8), but in a few stores, such as the Wal-Mart in the next town over, all the clothes seem too big. It's like there aren't any slim or even average women in the whole town! As of yet, I've not seen any jeans smaller than size 12. |
| Maarten | posted 15-Mar-2004 3:59am The problem is (and I see this also with baby clothes for Laura) that there can be a huge difference in 1 size. My size is XL, but sometimes an XL shirt is way to small. Or an XL shirt is bigger than a tent. |
| bill | (reply to Zang) posted 15-Mar-2004 5:00am http://surveycentral.org/survey/410.html (eerily similar) |
| kirst | posted 15-Mar-2004 5:23am In the US, it's no problem. In Hong Kong, it's a major hassle. I don't bother with buying clothes or shoes here! |
| justjulie | posted 15-Mar-2004 8:12am no..horrible body type, am short in height, short torso, etc etc..clothes out in the store are made for the extremely thin folks |
| Zang | posted 15-Mar-2004 10:52am I'm pretty average sized, so I don't have much problem. |
| Zang | (reply to bill) posted 15-Mar-2004 10:55am That was before my time. This was a "fix-me". I must confess that I don't search before I do a survey because I feel like I've got them all memorised anyway... |
| judgescratch | posted 15-Mar-2004 11:00am Yes, most of the time, but I have had problems.
Shirts are easy, pants are a little more tricky. |
| bill | (reply to Zang) posted 15-Mar-2004 11:22am I didn't mean that as criticism.. just more along the lines of us often saying the same thing ... though, it's a stretch in this case. |
| autumnlight | posted 15-Mar-2004 11:40am I have a size 8 (USA size 6) down to my waist and a 12 (USA size 10) on my hips, so buying dresses is a dog as they are always too baggy on my top.
But trousers are the worst. I have a good set of hips on me, but a tiny waist, so trousers always are too big on the waist and legs if they fit me on the hips. So I can only buy hipster pants, but even then they are usually too long (I'm 5'1") and baggy - they assume wide hips means wide thighs as well. Shopping for trousers has reduced me to tears before now. If i find a pair that fit me I have to buy them straight away, the last pair of jeans I bought cost me £100, which is ridiculous, but they were the only ones in the whole of Manchester that fitted me! I wouldn't mind, but I'm not an unusual shape - I'm just hourglass! |
| Cain | posted 15-Mar-2004 2:17pm No, it's really really difficult for me to get trousers, dresses and skirts that are long enough.
Tops are fine, but anything with long sleeves is never long sleeved enough. I love being tall but getting clothes is hard as hell. |
| Cain | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 15-Mar-2004 2:20pm There's an internet site called tallandall.com
They do fantastic clothes for long legs and torsos - they aren't cheap and you have to wait a long time for things to be delivered but it's better than nothing. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to Cain) posted 15-Mar-2004 2:34pm And then once I get them they still might not fit. |
| LindaH | posted 15-Mar-2004 2:45pm I wouldn't know. |
| dora | posted 15-Mar-2004 3:21pm I didn't say supermarket. I said market. But they sell them at the supermarket as well of course. (though maybe you would call it store, but here we call it supermarket)
|
| dora | posted 15-Mar-2004 3:21pm and...you're Richard47 or what?
|
| freebird | posted 15-Mar-2004 4:38pm it is difficult because I am very short--five foot tall but can be about a size 12 or 14.
|
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 15-Mar-2004 6:50pm I usually have a real problem finding pants that fit my hips that are not too long. Most petite sizes start at above 5 ft and I'm under 5 ft tall. |
| Irene007 | posted 15-Mar-2004 8:37pm All my life things looked great on a hanger - try it on and blah!
Boobs can be a problem and I can't even sleep on my stomach! |
| Irene007 | (reply to they) posted 15-Mar-2004 8:44pm Yeah! I agree... A size 10 from one manufacturer really differs from another. I worked for a designer years ago and if I said I was a 12, then she'd use me to make her pattern to send off to the sweat shops in China. That's not right!!! (Using me for a 12 and slave labour for production!!)
If companies are going ISO, why not set standards for the clothing manufacturers? It wouldn't be that difficult for them to establish standard sizes... |

| bill | (reply to Zang) posted 16-Mar-2004 10:04am ah!! |
| Cain | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 16-Mar-2004 1:20pm I can't stand men's jeans - so tight on the hips and baggy round the waist! |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to Cain) posted 16-Mar-2004 1:54pm I don't have much of a hip. I have big thighs. If womens jeans fit me in the thighs they are too big in the waist. |
| ASexyBabe | posted 16-Mar-2004 1:55pm talking to yourself? |
| Zang | (reply to bill) posted 16-Mar-2004 10:23pm I seem to be pretty good at using your search feature! |
| nasale | posted 17-Mar-2004 1:35pm Yeah, they are okay but I don't like buying clothes that fit me when I'm overweight. I am losing weight but it will take a while for me to lose enough to be satisfied. |
| leahdoll | posted 17-Mar-2004 5:47pm My only problem is that I should be wearing petites, but they're hard to find and not a lot of the "cool" juniors clothes come in petite versions. Thank God for cropped and ankle-length pants! |
| iwish40 | posted 22-Mar-2004 4:46pm I can find my size but.....I'm tall 5'7" and I weigh 111 lbs. so finding size 5 jeans to be the right length is hard to do...and long sleeve shirts to fit right is hard to do....so I wear mostly sweat-shirts.. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to iwish40) posted 22-Mar-2004 5:20pm 5'7" is not that tall. |
| Iseult | posted 24-Mar-2004 6:03pm Depends. I can find things that fit, but they're often ill-fit. I should have everything custom made. I can't find a shirt that fits properly. I can't find a coat that fits properly. I can't find anything that fits properly, everything is made for people under 4'11. Would it kill them to make a coat that when I put on goes to my ankles? |
| Iseult | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 24-Mar-2004 6:05pm You can always go to a taylor and get them to make you stuff that are important, like a suit or a dress. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to Iseult) posted 24-Mar-2004 6:20pm or I could sew it myself |
| Iseult | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 25-Mar-2004 7:35pm That's always a good idea. Do you have a sewing machine? |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to Iseult) posted 25-Mar-2004 8:02pm yup |
| chantal | posted 28-Mar-2004 3:23pm I have trouble finding my size because I'm an average size girl and the sizes are always gone before I get there. I think they should carry more of one size than another. ie. size 7-8 |
| moonstone | posted 30-Mar-2004 10:49pm Yes, I have trouble finding pants in the right sizes..too long all the time |
| Biggles | posted 19-Apr-2004 1:07pm It depends on the shop - in shops where a lot of older women shop (Marks and Spencer, Debenhams) then the larger sizes tend to go and my size is left. In younger shops, you often can't find clothes in my size.
It also depends on the clothes. I've given up buying bras in shops because I've never seen one in my size. I buy them off the internet. |
| moviesnob | posted 27-Apr-2004 3:36pm I'm too tall for pants to fit length-wise adequately. |
| spidertea | posted 12-Jun-2004 12:40am I don't know what the hell my size is. There is no consistancy between stores. ARgh.. |
