I would give myself around a 5. The only time I write in cursive anymore is when I'm signing my name. I print my handwriting. * smile *

Based on what other's say, I'm giving it a 10. I often get compliments on my writing.

I'd say an 8. I can't remember if Biggles, Jewels, and Cleo actually had the joy of seeing my cursive, or if I printed when I wrote them. * wry smile *

I gave mine a 5. It's average, not real neat but not real sloppy. It's real readable.

9. I'm generally told I have neat, pretty handwriting. I like how it looks most of the time, too. It does depend on how hard I'm trying, though. And my usual writing is sort of a mix of print and cursive.

I don't know it has been years since I have written in cursive. I prefer to print.

Gave it a 7. Would rather keyboard than write but if I take my time I can write decently.

3. But probably it's even less.

I have an horrible handwriting, something you have to see to believe. * wink *

Apart from a few years in elementary school, maybe grade four to six (30+ years ago), I have never written this way. I was trying to help my niece with her homework one time and discovered that I was "doing it wrong". I don't think anyone really uses that much anymore, maybe old ladies who write snail-mail letters to each other...

I gave myself a 6. My handwriting is fairly neat and legible if I take my time, but looks rather childish, and I tend to capitalize using printed letters because I hate the way cursive ones look. My signature is about the only thing I ever write in cursive anymore. I prefer to print.

It's got steadily worse as I've got older, but is still legible.

About a 5 or 6 as I have a tendency to scrawl when I'm in a hurry.

Then how do the people you know write? I was taught "joined-up-writing" when I was 6, and haven't used anything else since. I can't imagine how anyone who doesn't join their letters up can ever write fast enough to say finish an exam paper, or take notes at a lecture or meeting.

Overall I'd give it a 5. It depends on my mood. Most times my handwriting looks like a man's. It looks a lot like my Dad's handwriting.
If I'm content and happy it almost looks like a teenage girl's handwriting.

it starts off okay but after a few minutes becomes awful. I'm very out of practice at handwriting.

like somewhere around -50,000. Ok, really like 2. Its not that horrible, but I also have a very distinct handwriting, and people know it a mile away. Combine that with the fact that its bad, and people think its overwhelmingly awful.

boy, you people are luckly this is the internet and everything is typed

Good point. I guess part of that is the fact that the only exam answers I've seen in the past several years consisted of calculus, diagrams and the occasional printed words. My friends who attended lectures always taped them, and I've never looked at the original notes taken at any meetings I've attended, I've only seen the final print-out after it's been typed out on a word processor and turned into some sort of memo.

I can print fast enough to suit my needs.

 * laughing out loud * I just had a funny thought. At work, all of our clients have a psychiatric assessment form on file. The woman who writes them up has really scrawly printing and she writes all over the form, basically ignoring the format and covering printed words, shaded areas etc.. My boss and I are constantly comparing interpretations with each other: "What does that say?", "Is that word 'violent' or 'incontinent'?" * grin *

I'll be honest and give myself an 8. It really depends on what I'm writing, really. I usually print, but when I'm trying to take notes in class, it ends up being a mix of print and cursive, because it's faster to write in cursive. When I write a letter or note, though, my cursive is pretty neat (until I get about halfway down the page, and then it gets skewed to one side as my hand gets tired).

5. My handwriting is getting progressively worse as I become more dependent on the keyboard. As I can type almost as fast as I think, when I handwrite something, I expect the speed to be similar. But I just can't write that fast, so my writing looks like (readable) chicken scratch.

Probably a 4 when I write hurriedly, because I'm a lefty, and am pushing the pen awkwardly in the wrong direction. When I write backwards, (right to left) my penmanship improves markedly, but most people can only read it if they turn the page around and read through the paper, or hold it up to a mirror.

I like my handwriting. Feminine, but not overly "flow-y."

I give myself a nine because it can be a mess if I'm in a hurry. Having studied typography and a little graphology, my handwriting can look like whatever I fancy. It's not a terribly enviable skill, though I had some fun abusing it when I was younger.
On the whole, I notice that men typically have poor penmanship. Many friends of mine seem to have stopped developing their hand in elementary school. Women generally have a more legible hand, though they are a little more prone to spelling errors.

about a nine. Although most of my "work" is done on a computer there are times that I still have to write and I have always been one to check my penmanship. We had this english teacher in junior high who made us do this bell work (waiting for the bell to ring) and we had to work on our penmanship so it improved a lot between the 8th and 9th grades. Today I have actually been complimented on my handwriting.
