I like them because palm trees are about happy things...beach, sun, vacation, etc.
I'm so glad this got through!!

I love them. They are pretty & if I see one it means I am in a balmy tropical climate. * smile * I am wearing a palm tree shirt today and my comforter and sheets have palm trees on them.

I like them because they are beautiful. We don't have any in Artesia (NM) where I live but in Carlsbad (NM) there are some. I had many of them when I lived in San Antonio, Tx.

I like some of them. When I was in LA last year, I did a little personal study of the various types of palm trees. I got my mother to tell me which ones were which type. I decided I like the date palms the best--they're shorter, generally, and they have long, somewhat uniformly slender fronds but look very bushy. I don't like the tall palms as much--I believe some of them are called Washingtonias, and I can't remember what the other type is. One type has a smoother trunk, but both are tall and skinny with rounder (for lack of a better word), shorter fronds. They're not as bushy.

I love them because they are very beautiful and one of my most favorite trees. I love looking at them when I'm walking around. I have a couple palm houseplants in my apt. as well.

I tend to associate palm trees with the tropics. When I think of palm trees, the first image that springs to mind is a sunrise I saw one morning as we were leaving Ko Samui in Thailand. At first it was very dark and I couldn't see much out the window of the bus as we drove along the edge of the beach from our hotel to the ferry dock. Then as the sun began to creep over the horizon, I saw the sky explode into beautiful colours with silhouettes of black palm trees.

I also think of places in California, like San Francisco, where they often have large boulevards lined with palm trees.

I hate them because they provide absolutely no shade at all, if the state of FL had their way that is all that would be allowed, and the damn palm fronds fall on your head!!!

...oh yeah...I'm also tired of seeing them every corner that I turn. * frown *

When I first saw this survey, it reminded me of the last family vacation we took before my mother died. A friend of ours owns a condo in San Destin, Florida. We went and spent a week there. My parents, me, Caleb, my brothers, their wives, my nieces, a a few close friends. We had a great time.

Having said that, I'm really indifferent. I don't have a love of palm trees, but I don't dislike them. They're just there. I could take them or leave them. Makes no difference to me.

I * love * them, makes me think warm weather. You don't see any here in Missouri, but I've live in climates that have palm trees. There are other palm varieties I like too that are smaller or more compact.

Well... It looks like it's just you and me Bubba! I don't like 'em!! However, being from the North; they do instill images of vacations in the sun, beaches and oceans. None of those things attract me - when we go to a park, I look for the biggest tree offering shade. When we go camping, I look for the most wooded site (I don't do that since we bought a piece of bush for ourselves!). When we take vacations, I shy away from those tropical "Club Med" type packages - I really hate those! I went to Cuba once, and didn't realize that I had to travel all that distance just to mix with a bunch of drunken Quebecers! I could have saved money and just gone downtown for that!! There were palm trees there too and they were transplanted at the resort because they didn't even grow there naturally! When I travel, I like to see the indigenous plants, meet the real people not the polished ones offered to the tourists etc... I can't stand heat - I'm a real Northerner - I'd rather be in a cool, fresh bushy place searching for edibles; if there ever was a "Survivor" show in the North - I know I would be a great asset!!

I like them because they look great, usually. I don't like Washingtonia palms because the dead fronds hang over the trunk and it looks scruffy. It's also a fire hazard. I love foxtail palms, bangalow palms and majestic palms. The Canary Is date palm is one of my favourites too, but they take a long time to grow. Cocos palms blow in the wind but they shed dead fronds everywhere. They get a little cliche in some suburbs in Australia where every house as well as the nature strip in the middle of the road is covered in palm trees. They don't provide much shade so I think shade trees should be planted in parks and on nature strips alongside footpaths.

In northern Australia there are coconut trees everywhere. City councils employ people to cut the coconuts off so tourists are not hit in the head with falling nuts.
