| bill | posted 13-Feb-1999 1:58pm You mean, actually, physically meeting people and talking to them, like in person? *shudder* |
| they | posted 13-Feb-1999 3:03pm What does the job entail exactly? Someone told me that there was an 800 number you could call to get the job. |
| milktree | posted 13-Feb-1999 6:12pm How much money could census takers possibly make? |
| they | posted 14-Feb-1999 9:31am I was under the impression that it was a 'work at home' type of thing... the person that told me about it said it was decent second income pay. |
| jjg | posted 14-Feb-1999 10:18am I would get the job of counting people in crack houses. |
| elijahblue | posted 14-Feb-1999 11:22am milktree: I have a friend in NYC who made about $40,000 for eight or nine months' work for the 1990 census. He was mostly going to people's houses (those who hadn't yet returned their forms after a certain period of time) and helping them fill out and return their forms. He had a partner that went with him into the more unsavory neighborhoods. He did work long hours, but still, he made really good money for an unskilled worker just out of high school. |
| grmbrand | posted 15-Feb-1999 11:37am "Uh, hi--I'm here to--" [sound of shotgun being cocked] "--I'm not a salesman. I'm a census taker. I just want to know--" [sound of shotgun being shoved into mouth] "mmmmppphhhmnm" No. Thank. You. |
| drdt | posted 16-Feb-1999 11:38am I'll bet Census takers get similar receptions to door-to-door salesmen and Jevoha's Witnesses. |
| jonathan | posted 17-Feb-1999 4:09pm I dunno, I'd love to answer the census and blow the curve. |
| jjg | posted 19-Feb-1999 2:59pm jonathan: I keep getting these survey cards from the Christian Coalition because I'm a Republican. They assume that all Republican's are social conservatives. I intentionally fill them out and send them in because I'm socially liberal and define myself as a Liberal Republican. I enjoy blowing their curve. |

| North79 | posted 12-Mar-1999 4:53pm We do the Census every five years up here in the Great White North. I'd love to do it sometime. |
| mandy | posted 7-Apr-1999 8:36pm I cringe at the very idea of knocking on the doors of strangers |
