| Enheduanna | posted 31-Dec-2003 10:49am I am sure I have done this, although I can't remember any specific examples. I don't think anything catastrophic has ever happened as a result, though. |
| Irene007 | posted 31-Dec-2003 11:03am Ooops! I just pressed "other"! |
| Amanda | posted 31-Dec-2003 11:24am I've pressed a button just to see what it'd do, but I never regretted it.
Once I pressed a button on accident and regretted it, though. I was riding with my oldest brother, when he was a deputy. He'd pulled someone over and I was sitting in the car. I reached over to turn the radio on and pressed the emergency button on the police radio. Bad idea! |
| Biggles | posted 31-Dec-2003 12:06pm I often regret it if I touch buttons by mistake, but never that kind of button that I can remember. |
| juliw | posted 31-Dec-2003 12:25pm Yes. Two instances come to my mind. One was a button on a computer at college, which made a mess, and the student assistant was very angry with me. Not that I blame him! The other time was when I went to this website called something like the world's most annoying website...it took like forever to get out of it. |
| ihatespiders | posted 31-Dec-2003 12:47pm Yes when my sister and I rented an apartment in a big town . we were walking through the park we walked by an air raid siren someone left this small door open on the air raid siren and there was some buttons there and I could not resist pushing one the air raid siren went off and we took off running as fast as we could. |
| DeeDee17 | posted 31-Dec-2003 1:56pm Yes! Me and a friend were in the computer lab at school, and we were really bored because we'd finished our assignment, so we decided to see what each of the buttons on the keyboard did. One of the buttons we pressed (we found out later it was the stand-by button) shut down the computer we couldn't figure out how to turn it back on . We eventually got it working again, but to this day neither of us knows how we did it. |
| they | posted 31-Dec-2003 5:14pm At work, I've clicked icons.. I realize immediately that I shouldn't be in that area and close the window. |
| thevelvetcure | posted 31-Dec-2003 5:58pm nope, or so I don't recall, which means it wasn't anything major |
| southernyankee | posted 31-Dec-2003 6:41pm Oh yes, dont even get me started on that subject. Before I knew about screen savors, I pushed something and the sceen came on. At the time, I was pretty freaked out. I thought I broke something for a minute there. I also messed with things a bit on a computer. One time I changed the settings on someone else's computer, and they got mad at me. Also, when I was a kid, I was playing with the sleep button. And the tv just "magicly" turned itself off. And a couple times involving machinery (luckily not the 'heavy' ones). |
| southernyankee | (reply to DeeDee17) posted 31-Dec-2003 6:43pm I once accidently put a computer to "sleep" like that. |
| southernyankee | (reply to juliw) posted 31-Dec-2003 6:46pm At my dorm, I had an experience walking up and down a stairwell and when down all the way to the first floor, at a point where it was painted red, and had the sign "emergency exit" somewhere on the door. You can pretty much take a guess what happened then. |
| juliw | (reply to southernyankee) posted 31-Dec-2003 7:36pm OMG |
| Zang | posted 31-Dec-2003 8:03pm I can't help being reminded of the Ren & Stimpy episode: "Space Madness".
THE BEAUTIFUL SHINY BUTTON!!! THE JOLLY CANDY-LIKE BUTTON!!! http://ourworld.cs.com/WeezelX/rs/madness.html |
| OverTheRainbow | posted 31-Dec-2003 11:50pm I once had this excercise machene that could change positions - however, it was second-hand, so I didn't know it. The "collapse" button was a bit of a nasty surprise, until I found the other hole!

| SueBee | posted 1-Jan-2004 2:07am The only thing that comes to mind is the phone. Programming these things does not seem intuitive at all, and every time I try to reset the time or something without digging out the instructions I invariably mess up something.
Good survey!! I'm dying to hear what inspired it! |
| southernyankee | (reply to juliw) posted 1-Jan-2004 3:37am well, luckilly the entire alarms didnt go off. Just the ones on the first floor, and most people ignored it anyway. It was a different alarm, tg, and it went off as soon as I scrambled back out of the red-paint zone. It must off just been a temperary reasonace circuit alarm. Though my heart was racing as hell after that. I dont know what is it in fire alarms, but their sound allways makes me nervous and I get a full adreline rush after if rings for a while. |
| bill | posted 1-Jan-2004 8:39am It was a lever on the trunk of a rent-a-wreck. In college, we had a washing machine, but no dryer. So, we would wash our clothes, then pack them into the trunk and take them to be dried at the laundromat. I had this rent-a-wreck one week because my car had died. The trunk didn't open with the key, only a button by the driver's door. So, I saw this lever in the trunk and assumed it would allow the key to work. What it did was prevent the button from working. So, we ended up getting all our wet clothes locked in the trunk. It took the rental company hours to get it open again. |
| juliw | (reply to southernyankee) posted 1-Jan-2004 9:54am Yep! Those alarms will get you every time!! |
| Hans | posted 1-Jan-2004 2:52pm I thought it was a lamp for the staircase of the building, but it was an apartment bell, and it was after midnight. |
| Dino | posted 1-Jan-2004 3:17pm No, I haven't. |

| ROCKMAN | (reply to SueBee) posted 2-Jan-2004 12:54am I was at a friends house the other day and he had this thing sitting on his desk in his office area and it said as plain as day do not push on it. Well...of course I pushed it and it shocked the crap out of me. |
| jettles | posted 2-Jan-2004 9:08am i've done it but not regretted it!! probably not such a good thing to do though. |

| SueBee | (reply to kaleb777) posted 2-Jan-2004 9:11pm On occasion. I mean, it's subtle, but I picked up on it. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to SueBee) posted 3-Jan-2004 8:58am I would say yes, but if I saw something like that again my curiosity would still probably get the best of me. |
| mandy | posted 3-Jan-2004 3:38pm No regrets |
| cerealkiller | posted 3-Jan-2004 8:20pm Yes, years ago when I was a kid. I was at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. There were always a lot of button to push to activate animated displays. A kid came along and said "Here, push this button." Always being gullible, I did and got a horrible electrical shock. |
| romkey | (reply to mandy) posted 3-Jan-2004 9:23pm "What's this button do? What's this button do? What's this button do???" |

| Violet | posted 5-Jan-2004 1:55am No, but my brother did it in high school and ended up setting off the sprinkler system, flooding the first floor. I was at the same school, so I got a day off out of it. I was very proud of him. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to Violet) posted 5-Jan-2004 10:59am I would've been proud of him too. |

| freebird | posted 11-Feb-2004 11:35am yes, because it was for a vote on something that I cared about and there was no way to change it. Yet the people who did this did not have everything up to par, I believe. |
