| Biggles | posted 4-Dec-2003 3:48pm Yes, about my surname when I was at school. Mostly from my technology teachers - they were so stupid but they thought they were so clever... |
| Enheduanna | posted 4-Dec-2003 4:47pm None, really. |
| cerealkiller | posted 4-Dec-2003 5:17pm NO |
| DeeDee17 | posted 4-Dec-2003 5:43pm The only joke I've heard about my name is "Hi, Jack". my foods and clothing teacher used to say that, and then say "Can't say that in an airport." She found it hilarious. I didn't. |
| LindaH | (reply to DeeDee17) posted 4-Dec-2003 5:51pm That Hi, Jack one is old and unoriginal. I like "Did you remember the BALM?" |
| juliw | posted 4-Dec-2003 6:14pm Well...my last name is Jones, so I have often gotten questions like, "Oh, you're one of the Jones girls?" |
| ElvisFan67 | posted 4-Dec-2003 6:38pm Can't say I have. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 4-Dec-2003 7:01pm I've never really heard any jokes about my name, first or last. |
| ROCKMAN | posted 4-Dec-2003 7:22pm Nothing I can think of. |
| Iseult | posted 4-Dec-2003 7:33pm Well, the upside My last name is a different story. It's pronounced very similarly to 'burger', but it's not how you pronounce it. It's annoying. I wanna smack people when they make that connection. |
| mandy | posted 4-Dec-2003 8:51pm Oh mandy...you came and you gave without taking |
| Amanda | posted 4-Dec-2003 9:12pm First name: Amanda or Mandi Amanda Panda Mandi Pandi A-man-duh Surname: Gibson Are you Gib's son? No one can pronounce my middle name correctly. It's Lawren and everyone pronounces it as Lauren. But, it's actually pronounced Law-wren. I've never heard any jokes about it, but it bugs me when people can't pronounce it after I've told them how before. |
| Zang | posted 4-Dec-2003 9:15pm People don't make jokes about my name. I would give them a withering look that would make them run crying to their mommy. |
| ihatespiders | posted 5-Dec-2003 1:09am You can make the f word out of my last name. > |
| Dino | posted 5-Dec-2003 4:40am "Ha, like Dean Martin!" |
| caviartaste | posted 5-Dec-2003 11:22am I've been called Jana of the Jungle a few times........and Jana Bananna....and both of them are really annoying.... |
| judgescratch | posted 5-Dec-2003 11:41am This doesn't happen with my names...but I AM a perpetrator of saying these things to others. |
| Jody | posted 5-Dec-2003 11:49am I got a lot of "where's Buffy?" when I was in school (as in the children in the TV show Family Affair - not the Buffy we know and love these days). |
| ElvisFan67 | (reply to Amanda) posted 5-Dec-2003 11:23pm You wouldn't happen to be related to that country singer Don or that pop singer Debbie, would you? |
| ElvisFan67 | (reply to juliw) posted 5-Dec-2003 11:24pm Any kin to George? |
| Amanda | (reply to ElvisFan67) posted 6-Dec-2003 1:00am Nope, but my mom's name was Deborah and she was called Debbie. When people would find out my mom's name, they'd always ask me if she was THAT Debbie Gibson. |
| they | posted 6-Dec-2003 1:24am Not many jokes, but elderly men frequently break into song. There are two songs out there that I hear a lot called "They" |
| Irene007 | posted 6-Dec-2003 9:53am I've been called "Hyper Sky" too often... |
| Irene007 | (reply to judgescratch) posted 6-Dec-2003 9:57am I hate to admit it but... me too! Once, I couldn't help myself - I just had to introduce myself to a technician as Mrs. Hercunt - his name was Hiscock. He didn't laugh... |
| icurok | posted 6-Dec-2003 1:21pm I've not had any puns on my surname since sixth form college, thankfully. Since my first name is relatively common, most people don't feel the need to make 'fun' of it or with it, but depending on the cultural reference I probably wouldn't mind. If, for example, I asked someone a favour and they replied, "I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that" in a monotone voice, I'd probably laugh. |
| juliw | (reply to ElvisFan67) posted 6-Dec-2003 2:34pm |
| sonikJ | posted 6-Dec-2003 3:20pm yes, Jaime Lay Me, Jaime way me, Jaime pay me ect......... |
| ElvisFan67 | (reply to Amanda) posted 6-Dec-2003 3:21pm Well does your mom resemble THAT Debbie Gibson any? |
| ElvisFan67 | (reply to juliw) posted 6-Dec-2003 3:25pm I guess "it's not unusual" not to be related to a "no-show". |
| Glassa | posted 6-Dec-2003 6:37pm No, but MrGlassa and I always joke about what we could name our kids. Mason wouldn't work with the last name of Glass. People would call him Mason Jar. Fiber is another one. Fiber Glass. Tons of possibilities. |
| autumnlight | posted 6-Dec-2003 6:46pm My surname is Stout. Every person in the world that I've met has made an alcohol-related joke. |
| thevelvetcure | posted 6-Dec-2003 9:13pm Can't really say that I do...more often than not I get a completely different nickname, based off of my personality, or get called by my last name (in middle school). The name Chris is so freakin common that it's ridiculous. Though the only joke about the name Chris that I've heard was "Pissy Chrissy" which my friend called his brother, who in turn called my friend "Potty Scotty" |
| Amanda | (reply to ElvisFan67) posted 7-Dec-2003 12:53am Nope, not at all. My mom was a beautiful woman, but looked nothing like THAT Debbie Gibson (who I don't think is very beautiful anyhow!). BTW, email me at calebs_mom21@yahoo.com. Okay? |
| cuteasabutton | posted 7-Dec-2003 1:09am Yep. Manage a trois. |
| ElvisFan67 | (reply to Amanda) posted 7-Dec-2003 10:09am It's really nice of you to invite me to e-mail you. |
| Amanda | (reply to ElvisFan67) posted 7-Dec-2003 2:37pm Because I wanted to ask you something. If it's a problem, don't worry about it, though. It's no big deal. |
| juliw | (reply to ElvisFan67) posted 7-Dec-2003 8:34pm |
| OfTheSoul | (reply to Glassa) posted 7-Dec-2003 11:45pm |
| judgescratch | (reply to Irene007) posted 8-Dec-2003 8:26am Oh, sheesh..........! |
| Glassa | (reply to OfTheSoul) posted 8-Dec-2003 1:25pm Actually, Broken is one of them we've joked about. |
| Irene007 | (reply to judgescratch) posted 8-Dec-2003 8:19pm *blushes* I'm so embarrassed! |
| OfTheSoul | (reply to Glassa) posted 9-Dec-2003 8:44pm Imagine, if being called out by a roll-call, saying the last name first...? Glassa, Mill K. Glassa, O. J. |
| Traviedoll | posted 13-Dec-2003 11:07pm Stormin' Lauren , Normen, Borin' Lauren , It's not really funny, but it angered me... people use to call me Betty cuz I was named after Lauren Bacall and her real name was Betty My mum's name is Mitzi she really hated it when people called her Titzi Mitzi |
| wolfchik9 | posted 16-Dec-2003 5:55am I haven't ever heard any Stephanie jokes... however I think almost everyone has asked if I was related to Dan Marino. |
