I actually don't think I ever felt the urge to steal anything. I might be wrong, but that's how it seems to me.
I helped a couple friends to shoplift a book once. That's all.
I don't feel inclined towards stealing at all. Not my thing.

I have occasionally looked at something and thought "Bloody hell, I can't believe how easy it would be for me to steal that" but I haven't. |
| thevelvetcure | | posted 23-Nov-2003 8:43pm |
Today I would have, if it were available, but it wasn't...typically it's the 'stale' food at work. Bakery products that are one day past the sell by date that the company marks off as a charitable donation, but doesn't like to give to the underpaid employees. |

Not recently. I don't know. Been a long time.
I've always think how cool it'd be to walk into my professors office, throw my bag over the test on his desk while asking some bogus questions, then leaving with the test. But seriously considered? No way. |

Close to never. When i was five, i did something close to a theft which left too much shame to seriously consider it again, although as a young teen I got talked into being a sentry for the theft of a plant, and was talked into stealing a 2¢ candy. The notion of stealing occurs to me often in stores just because I carry a large bike bag and am concerned about clerks being concerned about me. The notion never reaches the 'should I?' stage and hasn't since I was five. On the other hand, I have at times exercised ingenuity with plans for bank heists and such, but again, I would never actually want to be involved in something like that. These days I won't even discuss such plans because I found out years later that one of my bosses whom I used to joke with about ways to heist and embezzle actually did eventually. I was rather naive back then, I guess. |

I used to be in a similar position. At a fast food restauraunt, if excess burgers were cooked, they went into a bin when they expired to have their parts counted. As I figured it, as long as I did not try to create a condition of excess burgers, and updated the destroyed inventory list, I was just eating something that was guaranteed to be in the dumpster hours later anyhow. besides, underfed employees are less productive. |

i've stolen one thing in my entire life, it was pretty many years ago already and it was a rock i found at goodwill...yeah...a rock, it was a painted smooth stone w/ a cool little phrase on it, the writing on it looked oddly familiar, so when i turned it over i discovered that my old art teacher/neighbor had painted this rock...there was a 4 dollar price tag on it, which i thought was silly, but it held some sentimental value to me, so i put it in my pocket |
| ROCKMAN | | posted 24-Nov-2003 8:49am |
I haven't took anything for a long time. I did years and years ago take a few things fom a job or two like tolet paper or soap things like that. I stole some candy from a 7-11 store when I was about 8 and got caught an haven't stole since |

On Thursday. I was in Harrods (very tacky btw) and had a jar of chocolate covered step ginger - my favourite. And I was walking around looking for crystallized ginger too and had to walk out of that particular department. I had a carrier bag with me. I contemplated putting it in the bag and walking off but I didn't in case I got caught. I really knew that I wouldn't do it because I find stealing wrong and I don't think I could eat them - or would have taken it back. But I just wanted to have mischevious thoughts. |
| Biggles | | (reply to Dino) posted 24-Nov-2003 5:19pm |
Oh my word - I thought only really posh people said "Well, I was in Harrods the other day...." Dino, what are you becoming?!?! |
| Dino | | (reply to Irene007) posted 24-Nov-2003 5:20pm |
I say 'Bloody Hell' as well' although I'm more likely to say - 'Good grief' if I'm in company. |
| Biggles | | (reply to Dino) posted 24-Nov-2003 5:21pm |
Biology Sam was just saying the other day that it was a shame that nobody says Good Grief anymore! |
| Dino | | (reply to Biggles) posted 24-Nov-2003 5:21pm |
No, hey. I only went because I hadn't been for years. And plus I was told that was the best place to buy crystallized ginger. I found it in the end. |
| Biggles | | (reply to Dino) posted 24-Nov-2003 5:22pm |
I've always fancied trying crystallised ginger - I really like the spice. But when I've had fresh ginger I've always found it really overpowering so I haven't dared buy any! I suppose having it chocolate covered must help!!! |
| Dino | | (reply to Biggles) posted 24-Nov-2003 5:26pm |
Go and buy stem ginger cookies from Marks & Spencer. It will give you an idea of how strong but not strong it is. And yeah, chocolate covered ginger is my favourite. I'm eating it now as we speak. As for language, my bad habit is to declare in exasperation - "Hellfire and Brimstone" which is just pathetic. I used to do it as a joke when I was pretending to be American and it kind of stuck. Actually I don't think Americans say that at all but I didn't really know that! |
| Biggles | | (reply to Dino) posted 24-Nov-2003 5:47pm |
I blaspheme too much. It never used to be a problem at school, but now I'm at uni I'm *surrounded* by Christians. They're everywhere!!! Every person I speak to that I think is normal seems to drop "Oh and at church the other day....." or "Our Christian Union is organising...." into the conversation! I was even on a build in London a few weeks ago and I met a lovely man from Uganda and he asked me "So, what kind of church do you go to, Claire?" He was surprised when I said I didn't! |
Kristal_Rose | | (reply to Dino) posted 25-Nov-2003 1:18am |
We use the term 'hellfire and brimstone' on the west coast to describe church types far far away. If they use the term in daily language, I wouldn't know. I'd taken up using 'bloody-hell' too at SC just before an awareness of it seemed to had flared up. It just sounded like the best word to use. Perhaps SC vibes are intermingling, and one day we will all bear common qualities of being an SC user. |
Irene007 | | (reply to Biggles) posted 25-Nov-2003 2:36am |
And they say that Canadians are so polite! You and Dino would absolutely die to hear the language spoken where I work. My boss and his sons say "fudging this" and "fudging that" about every second word. His wife and daughter say it too but always precede it with "excuse my language"... When you work with someone long enough, you start to talk that way... His partner comes from St-Vincent's and uses many of the French swear words, another employee who started there 15 years ago, arrived from El Salvador speaking only Spanish; now he speaks both languages and swears in both! He thinks it's funny because the words are meaningless to him! When I'm in certain company, I now realize how vulgar my language has become. New resolution: I'll try to work the whole day tomorrow without using foul words. Hmmm! That's going to be tough!! |

Oh I hear a lot of swearing but it's certainly very different depending on where I am. I Sheffield there are lots of very coarse sounding "ah fudges" whereas in Oxford there are lots of very posh sounding "fudging things". It's one of those words that sounds okay said either way - a bit like bastard ("ba-stud" in the North "baaar-stard" in the south!) |

Merde! That's a bad one! When my daughter was in high school, she had a European exchange teacher who spoke French (I can't remeber from which country he came from...) One day she said in frustration; "Putain de Merde!" Oh and did he lash out at her! Here, in Canada, that expression isn't any worst than saying: "Damn it!" but where he came from, that was really disgusting language for a young woman to speak. Needless to say, they got off on the wrong foot... Culture clash... |

I was thinking of disconnecting my fan and/or putting a variable resistor dongle on it (I have some for my PC that might fit). I think there's a new updated PS2 in Japan that is suppose to be 70% quieter, but I'm not sure if it's in the US yet (it may be included in a new network bundle). |
| Biggles | | (reply to Irene007) posted 28-Nov-2003 2:16pm |

So you'd just sidle up to a complete stranger and chat to them? I'd only do that if we were "in the same boat" as it were - eg. we were both volunteering on the same programme, or both starting at the same college, or people I know vaguely from lectures. |
Irene007 | | (reply to Biggles) posted 29-Nov-2003 8:36am |
I've been to English pubs and everyone's your friend in there!! What struck me as strange is that many pets seem to be patrons too! I like that! We can't do that here... I can just imagine a man telling his wife that he's going to walk the dog, then bee-lines to the nearest pub for a pint and the dog still doesn't get his exercise!! |
| Biggles | | (reply to Irene007) posted 29-Nov-2003 8:45am |

| Biggles | | (reply to Irene007) posted 29-Nov-2003 9:11am |
Bits of it - there are certainly towns and cities (city?) in the county, but there are certainly large areas that I would think of as rural. |
Irene007 | | (reply to Biggles) posted 29-Nov-2003 1:52pm |
I was close to one of King Henry VIII castles (I don't remember the name - the one with the free roaming deer in the park). I went to a pub situated in a building that was about 500 years old. I think people back then were much smaller - such narrow corridors! I loved that area - the stores, the pubs. It was really nice, so much history! |
