| LindaH | posted 13-Nov-2003 12:43pm dunno. depends on if it was cut lengthwize or the other way |
| Biggles | posted 13-Nov-2003 12:58pm *Use it as a planter (well, give it to my mum and let her use it as a planter). *Polish it up really well so it was really smooth and use it either as storage, or as a stool depending on the exact dimensions. *Turn it into a cat/dog basket. |
| cerealkiller | posted 13-Nov-2003 1:13pm Use it for a planter |
| caviartaste | posted 13-Nov-2003 1:24pm I would fill one side with dirt and plant flowers in it and put it on one side of my porch.....and turn the other peice upside down and put it out in my flower bed on the other side of my porch and put pots on top of it in an arrangement with flowers in them.... |
| judgescratch | posted 13-Nov-2003 1:35pm Cut in half which way? |
| FordGuy | posted 13-Nov-2003 1:36pm Put it outside and let it fill with rain water for watering my house plants. Rain barrel. |
| bill | posted 13-Nov-2003 1:37pm Fill it with soil and add flowers to it... or throw it away, I can't decide. |
| bill | posted 13-Nov-2003 1:38pm They had some of these at a local shop this summer and they reeked of alcohol/brandy |
| thevelvetcure | posted 13-Nov-2003 1:40pm Turn it upside down...(so the exposed inside) is facing the ground, and create a tabletop. Using it as a coffee table or such |
| thevelvetcure | posted 13-Nov-2003 1:45pm Just for the record, it's cut in half widthwise, so that there are two 'tops' or bottoms. The dimensions are quite large, for it was a wine cask. It's authentic, because when I saw it, the bands were loose, and after 'tapping them with a hammer and screwdriver, they are nice and tight. FYI - If it was cut lengthwise (top to bottom) the metal bands would not hold the cask/barrel together, there would be a pile of curved slats on the ground. |
| judgescratch | (reply to thevelvetcure) posted 13-Nov-2003 2:11pm ...good point about the slats. |
| harekrishnadasa | posted 13-Nov-2003 2:11pm It use it to clean my room. |
| LindaH | (reply to thevelvetcure) posted 13-Nov-2003 2:16pm Now you know what kind of sense I make when I haven't slept. |
| thevelvetcure | (reply to LindaH) posted 13-Nov-2003 3:10pm Probably about as much sense as I made, creating this survey on 5 hrs of sleep in 2 days |
| pandora | posted 13-Nov-2003 3:15pm Hmm. Plants? |
| Dino | posted 13-Nov-2003 3:41pm Put plants in it (and soil) and put it outside and grow something. |
| anoddoblivion | posted 13-Nov-2003 4:02pm Uh...nothing? Is this a trick question or something? |
| kaleb777 | posted 13-Nov-2003 4:49pm Plant something is it. |
| Enheduanna | posted 13-Nov-2003 5:18pm Plant things in it. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 13-Nov-2003 6:27pm It would depend on which way I chose to cut it in half...wouldn't it? |
| Galomorro | posted 13-Nov-2003 7:17pm I'd put a cushion on it and use it for a cool little rocking chair. |
| justjulie | posted 13-Nov-2003 7:55pm foot stool, chair, table, planter, a 'bin' to put stuff in, like magazines, or blankets, or stuff................ |
| mandy | posted 13-Nov-2003 7:58pm fill it with earth and plant things |
| lily333 | posted 13-Nov-2003 8:28pm I would plant flowers in it. |
| Irene007 | posted 14-Nov-2003 12:56am Probably burn it in our next camp fire. I have a sap bucket made the same way and I keep that preciously because it's complete. |
| Irene007 | (reply to thevelvetcure) posted 14-Nov-2003 12:58am Silly me! I imagined it cut lengthwise and imagined no use for it because it would fall apart! |
| micah | posted 14-Nov-2003 2:48am If it's depending on compression to stay together and it's in half, it's now in way too many pieces for me to choose to deal with. I'd find the nearest dumpster. |
| ROCKMAN | posted 14-Nov-2003 11:34am I have a few of them around. I have some plants\flowers in a couple of them and nothing in the others (yet). One of these days. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to justjulie) posted 14-Nov-2003 11:40am I like the table idea, that gives me something to do now. I'll go cut me a table top. |
| thevelvetcure | (reply to Irene007) posted 14-Nov-2003 1:04pm you were at least thinking in a legit manner (kind of) |
| mary | posted 14-Nov-2003 4:01pm I would put parrot toys in it. |
| icurok | posted 14-Nov-2003 5:27pm Scrape the bottom of it in order to answer this question. |
| thevelvetcure | (reply to icurok) posted 14-Nov-2003 6:32pm Hopefully you won't scrape too much, otherwise you won't have much of a 'barrel' left |
| icurok | (reply to thevelvetcure) posted 14-Nov-2003 6:43pm I know most people have said "Fill it with soil and put some plants in it", or something along those lines, but for me that would be like giving a vegetarian of barrel full of sirloin steaks and giblets. I'm the least green-fingered person I know, and I suppose my serious non-jokey answer to your question would be, "I'd give to somebody who could make use of it". |
| thevelvetcure | (reply to icurok) posted 14-Nov-2003 7:56pm I'm somewhat the same way, the only thing that I've 'successfully' grown was some sort of vine that broke off the main plant, so I managed for that to succeed, however since then, nada, zilch. I think as a table it would be practical, besides, it'd also be a nice conversational piece, assuming I ever had visitors |
| Zang | posted 14-Nov-2003 8:50pm Throw it away. I have no use for such clutter. If YOU are looking for something to do with it however, you might think of planting some flowers in it or something... |
| justjulie | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 15-Nov-2003 6:33am hehehehe....... i like that idea as well...wish i had a barrel though! |
| romkey | posted 15-Nov-2003 10:58am probably turn it into planters... |
| mandy | (reply to romkey) posted 15-Nov-2003 11:23am warts or peanuts? |
| romkey | (reply to mandy) posted 15-Nov-2003 1:12pm hmm... let me think about that one... |
| moonstone | posted 15-Nov-2003 3:39pm potted plants(outside or inside)? toy box? store stuff? |
| they | posted 16-Nov-2003 2:35am These are the best for growing tomatoes. My dad has these and a raised bed. The ground in our area is mostly clay. |
| ROCKMAN | (reply to justjulie) posted 16-Nov-2003 8:57am Somebody gave me mine, you can tell someone had things planted in them already, they were free though. |
| Oscar | posted 16-Nov-2003 11:11pm Throw it away |
| justjulie | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 17-Nov-2003 9:18am awesome free stuff rocks!!!!!!!! |

| Irene007 | (reply to thevelvetcure) posted 19-Nov-2003 12:18am I just didn't understand what you meant by "thinking in a legit manner (kind of)".... Please explain Mr. Spock! We are talking about cutting a barrel, aren't we? Please expand... Hmmm.... Or did you just mean; "Well even if your thoughts were screwed up, you still were thinking." Never mind, I think I just answered myself... legitimately!! |
