going to california, the ocean, when the levee breaks, hey hey what can i do |
| Jody | | posted 19-Aug-2003 3:01pm |
ooooo, so many to choose from. I'll listen to just about any Zep, frankly. Thank You and the Rain Song are nice ones. I also really like Carouselambra and Ten Years Gone. Kashmir, When the Levee Breaks, What Is and What Should Never Be, and Ramble On are also good. And I also have a soft spot in my heart for Good Times, Bad Times, because that was our class song in high school (the one class out of a whole slew that *didn't* pick Freebird). |

Dazed and Confused, Ramble On, Gallow's Pole, Going to California, etc... it's hard to pick one. I like a lot of their music. |

"Been dazed and confused for so long it's not true." - I love that lyric. |

I keep meaning to get more into Led Zeppelin. For now, I like That's The Way and Fool in the Rain, mainly because I'm most familiar with those two. |

I don't consider myself a big Led Zeppelin fan. Having said that my favorite is probably Stairway to Heaven. |

That's one of the main reasons why I like it so much too! Very good for loud car singing, and dancing in the front seat! |

Never was a fan. Have heard them but never really got into 'em. |
Zang | | posted 19-Aug-2003 9:57pm |
That's tough, because there are several that I really like. I'll just list them in order of preference:
1. Immigrant Song 2. Whole Lotta Love 3. Black Dog 4. Kashmir 5. Nobody's Fault But Mine 6. Dazed And Confused 7. D'Yer Mak'er 8. The Lemon Song |
| mandy | | posted 19-Aug-2003 10:18pm |
Kasmir...it was Nick's all time favorite song....now my favorite Led Zep song. |
| Dino | | posted 20-Aug-2003 4:20am |
Too many to mention really but if I had to round it down to one I would say:
'When the levee breaks'
but special extra mention to 'rock and roll', 'gallows pole', and 'immigrant song' |

right on! |

i love the lemon song..(was hoping that someone would mention it) |
| Jody | | (reply to Zang) posted 20-Aug-2003 9:01am |
Nobody's Fault but Mine is a really good one! As for the Lemon song, that and Traveling Riverside Blues and a few others were just such blatant rips of Robert Johnson I could never really listen to them much - if Zep had given credit where it was due, that would have been different (traditional my *ss). |

well thank you sharing, even if there is a major annoyance w/in your tone ...as i said in qualification, i did NOT pay attention to the rolling stone survey by andyroo, so i wasn't sure if there was 'drama' involved or not. i mean it passed, so i thought why not...but this is all over semantics my dear |

*Zang pops in his old cassette of Led Zeppelin II* |
Zang | | (reply to Jody) posted 20-Aug-2003 5:15pm |
I couldn't help but notice that I essentially picked one song from each album. Even though they weren't really a singles band, I find that there is one stand out tune on each record. I only have II and III, but when I was a kid I used to hang out with some Led Zep fans so I heard them all plenty.
I used to have a copy of Robert Johnson's "King Of The Delta Blues Singers, Vol 2" on cassette. I think I lost it when I was working with the street kids. I used to lend them cassettes and I often didn't get them back. Now I'm left with some compilation CDs; one track here, one track there...some MP3s...
Johnson did get credit for "Traveling Riverside Blues", which was unreleased until the 1990 box set. |

You didn't even mention; "What is and What should never be"...
I like the Immigrant song - maybe it's a Canadian thing? (we still remember that were are...)

Well at least he got some credit. I think by now many people should be aware of his influence on them, so at least he's getting credit indirectly. |

Your Time Is Gonna Come
Lyin', cheatin', hurtin, that's all you seem to do. Messin' around with every guy in town, Puttin' me down for thinkin' of someone new. Always the same, playin' your game, Drive me insane, trouble is gonna come to you, One of these days and it won't be long, You'll look for me but baby, I'll be gone. This is all I gotta say to you woman:
*Your Time Is Gonna Come X4
Made up my mind to break you this time, Won't be so fine, it's my turn to cry. Do want you want, I won't take the brunt. It's fadin' away, can't feel you anymore. Don't care what you say 'cause I'm goin' away to stay, Gonna make you pay for that great big hole in my heart. People talkin' all around, Watch out woman, no longer Is the joke gonna be on my heart. You been bad to me woman, But it's coming back home to you. |

Yes, I think about the kittens now too! |
Zang | | (reply to Irene007) posted 21-Aug-2003 5:28pm |
I think two songs off the A side of Led Zeppelin II are enough.
I think the reason I like Immigrant Song is largely because I've studied the history of my people. Most of my ancestors would have been Vikings. When you listen to it from that perspective, it is very powerful. |
Zang | | (reply to Jody) posted 21-Aug-2003 5:39pm |
Yeah, I think there were some lawsuits. The whole intellectual property thing is starting to look less and less tenable. The whole thing is really about keeping the money in the hands of the industry; it has nothing to do with creativity. Composers have been lifting riffs from each other since day one. The people who make the laws have no concept. Artists that buy into the idea pretend to believe in it when they know otherwise. They just do it because they can get money out of it. The whole system is starting to look like a house of cards. I don't see it lasting much longer. |
| dora | | (reply to Zang) posted 21-Aug-2003 8:10pm |
Those kittens! Don't forget they are our overlords! |

I'll be curious to see where the cards fall. I agree that a major shakeup is inevitable. |
