Which of the following statement(s) about Elvis Presley would you agree with?

Here's a fun survey for those of you who like Elvis. Simply choose any of the following statements about Elvis you agree with.
I made up most of these statements on my own, but I threw in a few that were made by other people--which I enclosed in quotes along with the person who said it. The ones I made up are the ones not in quotes.

VotesAnswer
0Rock 'n' roll died when Elvis did.
3Dead or alive, Elvis is still the King.
6"Before Elvis, there was nothing." - John Lennon
1It would have been impossible for rock 'n' roll to survive had it not been for Elvis.
2Even today's teens--who weren't even born until sometime after Elvis died--like Elvis as much as any teenager of the 50s ever did.
6"Elvis taught white America to get down." - James Brown
14Elvis is as American as baseball and apple pie.
4Elvis should be honored with a national holiday.
2"Elvis' death deprives our country of a part of itself." - former President Jimmy Carter
8Bill Haley may have started rock 'n' roll; Alan Freed may have given rock 'n' roll its name; but it was Elvis who made rock 'n' roll famous.
11Elvis is more popular in death than in life.
3The day of Elvis' death should replace the day of Buddy Holly's death as "The Day the Music Died".
1"When Elvis died, we all knew that we could, too." - a lyric from the Statler Brothers song, "A Child of the Fifties"
0All of the above

9None--I don't like Elvis, so it would be very hard for me to agree with any of these

Elvis is more popular in death than in life only because he's been dead longer than he was popular alive. Does that even make sense?

Elvis is more popular in death than in life.

When I was a waitress, late one night a man came in that looked just like Elvis. A little while later, I thought he had left because his table was empty. I was acting goofy that night, so in my best Elvis voice, I said "Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building." About that time, I saw the man coming back from the bathroom. I was so embarrassed!! Luckily, he had a good sense of humor and left me a good tip!

I dont really care for him. I think hes overrated, and 'rock and roll' (however you define it) would still be around if it werent for him. And no, we dont need a holiday for him, as if we didnt have enough useless one as it is, though there are a lot better ones that will never become. And I bet that I could come up with a few good example if I had ever been given the opportunity, not that I have.

I don't believe it was so much that Elvis couldn't act--he just never had the chance to prove himself as a serious actor like he had wanted to. Elvis himself often complained of this. He didn't want to keep doing goofy movies where he punched out a guy and then sang to him afterwards. But the songs, or soundtracks, from his movies are good.

"Before Elvis, there was nothing!" - Miss Bitters

"Elvis is a American as baseball and apple pie" - I love the irony in this... because, yeah, he's also as American as pill-popping and overeating...

Let's see--let's do the math. Elvis became a national superstar in 1956, which makes that 21 years until the year he died (1977). As of this year (2003), he's been dead for 26 years. So yep, you're right! I guess that's what popularity can do for some folks.
