Hate to say it, but it depends on what I'm in the mood for. Sex, eating, sleeping, and reading are probably the top 4, though.

it's hard to pick, different activities are enjoyed differently. sex is probably the most intense enjoyment one way but keeping fit and reading, being out in nature are very enjoyable in a different way...

I'm sorry, I usually try to answer these in the spirit in which they were intended, but there is just no way for me to answer this one. IT DEPENDS. Right this minute I think I would rather be sleeping than anything else. There are movies I'd rather watch than have sex with this guy I met in a bar in New York one time in 1987. And there are times when all I want is to vegetate in front of a TV set. But all of the things you've listed appeal to me at certain times and all have been "what I most want to do right now" at various moments. I'm amused that you lump reading and writing together, since for me these are wildly disparate activities.

Hunter : When I say " which do you enjoy most ", I mean, when you do it, which is more enjoyable. For example, when you have sex and enjoy it ( I know it varies but take an average ), is it more enjoyable than watching tv and enjoying it. Also, it does depends on the mood but there will be one you enjoy most......just think about it, then vote

Nope. That's just not the way I work. I would have to say that I enjoy all of these things equally, because enjoying a movie intensely and enjoying sex intensely and enjoying a cigarette intensely are all instances of intense enjoyment.

Sleeping, because everyone is leaving me alone. People can be a bother when they need too much.

The very best thing is just holding on to Tom. I miss it a lot right now, and I'm in a serious pout. (He's in China again.)

Well, I enjoy many of these activities... But sex wins hands-down for the one I enjoy most while I am doing it. The difference is more qualitative than quantitative, however. Oh, yeah - you forgot drugs * smile *

It's okay if it's 'associated' with whores and drunks though. Bleh. Freaky.

So, anyone who enjoys doing drugs is a junky???? My point exactly.
Wicksy
posted 21-Jan-1999 11:36am
pandora : In my book, yes. All drugs are illegal and if anyone takes them, they are breaking the law, they can't satisfy their lives properly unless under some influence of drugs and hence, I would constitute that as being a junky. However, I am sure you aren't one Pandora, your name is far too sweet

For the sake of my sanity(and probably everyone else's), STOP! And for the record, I've done drugs in the past, I'll most likely do drugs in the future, I've done many other illegal things, but I can surely satisfy my life properly without being under the influence.

Wicksy: Are you saying that as long as something is legal it has positive connotations and if illegal it does not?
Wicksy

doom : generally, yes. That's why the laws are there. But I see your point
eris

Wicksy: (a) It is certainly not true that all drugs are illegal. It depends on what drugs you are talking about and what jurisdiction you are in. (b) Assuming your presumption of illegality were correct, only the first clause of your three-clause sentence is implied. Whether one is breaking the law or not has nothing whatever to do with whether one is addicted to drugs (or alcohol, or anything else). Many people use drugs, legal or otherwise, by choice as an enhancement of their lives without in any way being dependent upon substances for fulfillment. (c) While various governments have shown a distressing tendency to legislate morality, I vehemently deny their right to do so in any case where one person's behavior has no appreciable impact on another. It is not the government's place to tell people how to think; this is tantamount to tyranny. (d) Wasn't the mythological Pandora the one who unleashed a number of woes (probably including drug addiction) on an unsuspecting humanity? *pouf!* flame off.

Wicksy, first of all, all drugs certainly are not illegal. Go into any drug store or the medication section of a supermarket and you'll see hundreds of legal drugs on the shelves. And let's not forget coffee and chocolate. Second, even with illegal drugs, not everyone who uses them "can't satisfy their lives properly unless under the influence". Many, I'd say most, who take illegal drugs do so because they want to, the same way I sometimes want a pizza or a good philosophical discussion. I'm not saying that dependency and addiction don't exist, just that they're far from universal in the users of illegal drugs.

I enjoy many of the things on list; why must I choose only one? Considering I do different things from day to day, but sleep at some point during every 24 hour cycle, I guess I'm resigned to choosing sleep as my preferred activity...

The most enjoyable, rewarding part of my day is my job. I love teaching 5th grade Science and Language Arts (my 1st year), and I don't really do much of anything outside of work! (I'm not sure I'd have it any other way until I establish myself in my career.)

Spending time with people I care about, this could include most of the activities on the list but the important thing is not the activity but the person I do it with.

Theatre beats the tar out of cinema any day. Even bad theatre.
steve
posted 17-Feb-1999 9:57pm
drdt: Actually, in some ways I find bad theatre much more painful than bad cinema. While I don't usually have the problem with disgusting violence that I have at bad--well, most--cinema, I've done some theatre and I find that I have an awful sort of queasy empathy for the people on stage in a bad play. I just feel so horribly embarrassed for them, and I hate that. So I'd much rather see good cinema than bad theatre.
