I like ducks. That's pretty much it. I have a huge fear of birds, particularly pigeons, seagulls and crows. |

I like them all nearly equally though I'm especially partial to parrots of all kinds, seagulls and other waterbirds, crows, ducks, chickens, and hummingbirds. |

male peacocks are beautiful. So are peach-faced lovebirds. Swans are lovely and I've heard they mate for life, which sounds romantic. |

I love birds. My favourite one is eagle (Bald Eagle, especially). I also find capercaillies very amusing. I like carrion crows, too. |

I never really thought about it. Maybe sparrows. Lovebirds are cool, as are wax eyes, finches, canaries, budgies, herons, ducks.. I really like eagles, too. I guess, overall, I'd have to say eagles. |

I guess I've simply never had a problem with them. Why don't you like them? I love going to a park and feeding pigeons and sparrows. |
Maarten | | (reply to smurf) posted 11-Jul-2003 8:38pm |
There are way too many of them where I live, they crap on EVERYTHING, they spread diseases, they make annoying noises and they are plain stupid and ugly. |
| smurf | | (reply to Maarten) posted 11-Jul-2003 8:43pm |
Hmmm... Well, we're not totally overrun with them, which helps! I know nothing of the diseases they spread, but every animal has the potential to spread diseases (cats = worms, dogs = rabies, etc). I like the sounds they make, although I agree that they're not the smartest cookies in the cookie jar! But I don't think they're ugly, I think pigeons are pretty. I especially like the way their necks move when they walk, kinda like "walk like an Egyptian" |

my favorite birds that come to my bird feeder are blue jays even though they're loud and messy, they're pretty cool birds. I'm sure I'd have a different favorite bird if I lived somewhere tropical, but living in an apartment in Wisconisn, blue jays are as good as they get for me. |

Brisbane City Council is trying to get rid of the ibis from the centre city. They grab food off people. I don't have spiders in my lawn because of them. They can scare them all my way. |
SueBee | | (reply to kaleb777) posted 27-Jul-2003 4:03pm |
Birds can be annoying in public places, but it's probably because people feed them and encourage them to come around. Then it gets out of hand. I've had seagulls and pigeons poop on my head, which is not fun, especially when you're away from home for the day. So, I'm more wary now. I won't sit under power lines or other perching places, and I tend to cover my head if I notice a bird flying over, but I don't really blame the birds. There's a park on a lake in Seattle that has a problem with too many Canadian geese. I guess the park is covered in bird droppings and not a nice place for people anymore, so they even resorted to gassing the birds. I thought that was terrible. |
| kaleb777 | | (reply to SueBee) posted 27-Jul-2003 4:10pm |
That's a bit drastic. The BCC is using a falcon to scare away pigeons and ibis. None are killed. |

I really don't have one. I was in the Eagles team (house) at primary school, so maybe I'll go with that. Our colour was blue - there were also the Owls (yellow), Kestrels (green) and Vultures (red). The boys used to like being the Owls because that was the nickname of our local football team. Kids in the same family were always in the same team because we got points for bringing in recycleables and the teachers didn't want to be the source of family feuds! Once a week, people would bring in stuff for recycling and put it in the dining room - there was one table set aside for each team. Then two kids in the older classes would come out and weigh it all - points were awarded to each team for certain quantities. We also got teampoints for good work, good behaviour and good effort in PE. At the end of the year, "Oughti Bear" (a white teddy) was crowned witha woolly hat in the colour of the team that had the most teampoints. There was also a second bear that was crowned according to the results of sports day. |

I once got ten teampoints in one go (a huge amount!!!) for writing to the Queen to ask if there were cellars at Buckingham Palace and getting a reply (from a lady-in-waiting, not the actual Queen!) in which my question wasn't answered at all No wonder I'm an anti-monarchist! |
