The only pets I've had have been fish and cats. Not very trainable. |
| grmbrand | | posted 11-Jul-2003 11:08am |
I can get my cat to totally flip out by scratching vigourously at the carpeting. Not really a "trick", but pretty funny. |
romkey | | posted 11-Jul-2003 11:40am |
I don't think I've taught any animals tricks |
| Jemmy | | posted 11-Jul-2003 12:38pm |
I taught my fish to follow my fnger around the bowl. I wouldn't call that impressive. |
| pandora | | posted 11-Jul-2003 1:13pm |
My cat has learned to play fetch, but it's not so much that I taught her, as she learned how. It's hysterical by the way. My other kitty was the greatest the world has ever seen, but unfortunately she's no longer with us. Anyway, she did backflips if you caught her in the right mood. |

The only tricks I've taught my dog are sit, stay, heel, and fetch. I'm pretty sure none of those are very impressive. |

If you can't teach your dog to bring you your slippers, teach him to sleep on your feet! |
| southernyankee | | posted 11-Jul-2003 5:31pm |
sit
thats the best I've done so far.
And even that has funny results. Now my dog sits everytime he wants and smells food, weather or not we tell him to sit. |

I've never taught an animal to do anything. When I was a kid, we had a cat. My father trained it to roll over. Everyone thought that was pretty amusing. |
| Richard47 | | posted 11-Jul-2003 5:51pm |
I have taught my pet lizard, "Bitterglits" to stop being so snobby and to laugh at herself, from time to time...and enjoy life a little more so she wouldn't be so all the time. |
| juliw | | posted 11-Jul-2003 5:52pm |
I used to tell Casey (my missing cat) to ignore me, and she did-everytime! |
| juliw | | (reply to Richard47) posted 11-Jul-2003 5:53pm |
You are very obnoxious! No one finds you amusing. You are quite a troll! |
LindaH | | (reply to Richard47) posted 11-Jul-2003 5:55pm |
If you try to teach a person to laugh at themselves by offending them, it won't work. |
| Richard47 |
You can train cats to eat fish. It's a cool trick but requires constant trips to the pet store. |
| Richard47 | | (reply to juliw) posted 11-Jul-2003 6:06pm |
What happened to all the ??? What have I ever said to you? Really, I am one of the nicest people I know...and this is how you treat me? I take you into my heart and I get lashed. It isn't fair!! |
| Richard47 | | (reply to Jemmy) posted 11-Jul-2003 6:09pm |
As long as it wasn't the 'toilet' bowl!! |
| juliw | | (reply to Richard47) posted 11-Jul-2003 6:13pm |
I still have the love, but you seem to be pestering and making fun of some of my other SC buddies. I didn't mean to be unfair, but I think some of your comments are a bit unfair, as well. |

Hey...you're back! I lost your address after I wrote you a letter. I hope you got the letter okay. |

I'll try to tone down. You bring out the best in me, but I bet you bring out the best in a lot of people. That is your gift in life: to show people the better parts of themselves. I know she hates me but I like Glitterbits. She's sophisticated and speaks well, and is very polite. |
| juliw | | (reply to Richard47) posted 11-Jul-2003 6:42pm |
I bet she doesn't "hate" you. She really is a nice, polite person. |
| Richard47 | | (reply to juliw) posted 11-Jul-2003 6:51pm |
I hope not. Being hated doesn't "feel" good |
| juliw | | (reply to Richard47) posted 11-Jul-2003 6:54pm |
You are not hated. I am guessing you are misunderstood. I did not have a good first impression of you, but now I see you are a really sweet, caring person. I am glad to have you as a friend. |

Teaching our dog to walk without a leash and not cross the road but wait until I came along and crossed together at my signal. |
| Amanda | | posted 14-Jul-2003 3:34am |
I don't recall ever having taught an animal a trick. |
| ROCKMAN | | posted 14-Jul-2003 9:07am |
I've taught all my animals some good tricks. I got one of my horses to put his feed bowl back in the back of the truck, now if I could just get the others to do that I wouldn't have to get out and pick them up I could just drive off. |
SueBee | | posted 15-Jul-2003 12:42am |
Well, my cat will carry my dirty socks to the laundry room, but only if I put them on her back and then coax her into the laundry room, so I guess that isn't terribly impressive.
The best (silly & unique) trick my dad ever taught our dog to do was to "go around the merry-go-round". When you said that to her, she'd run around the circular fireplace in the middle of the livingroom. |
SueBee | | (reply to romkey) posted 15-Jul-2003 12:44am |
You're not taking credit for "put the mousy in the water bottle"? |
romkey | | (reply to SueBee) posted 15-Jul-2003 1:01am |
the cats did that all on their own! |
SueBee | | (reply to romkey) posted 15-Jul-2003 1:05am |
Clever kitties! |
| ROCKMAN | | posted 17-Jul-2003 8:19am |
I got one that I'm working with to lay down and he just about has it down, and I'm working with all mine to bow and that is going good too, other things are things they just kind of start doing on their own. I can't seem to teach the goats a damn thing yet, my dogs pick up about everything I tell them to do, they are pretty smart (Austrailan Shepards) I use them to herd the horses too, they do al the work for me and they love it. |
| ROCKMAN | | posted 17-Jul-2003 9:28am |
I try to be (smart that is) and I buy and sell horses for part of my living andalot of riding and some breaking depends on the horse and how much work it needs to be a good trail horse, I have others that are better than me but they charge me so I do what I can. |

"Baby dog" - to flip on his back and kick his paws. |
| OfTheSoul | | (reply to ROCKMAN) posted 20-Jul-2003 7:37pm |
To teach a goat tricks you really need a Capricorn Whisperer. (haha) |

My chihuahua speaks, sits, rolls over, spins around in circles, will walk to you on his hind legs, and gives hugs. I did not train him by myself though. |
| OfTheSoul | | (reply to anonymous) posted 24-Jul-2003 3:57pm |
Whereas the REAL trick in that is that your dog can actually FIND it, I'm sure. |

My one bengal cat loves to open his wet food can all i do is put it on my gizmo can opener and he holds the button and wala is gets supper. he also knows how to turn the tv on and turn channels and the sits there and watches the tv show. I have no clue who taught him that |
| OfTheSoul | | (reply to tazinfun) posted 31-Jul-2003 10:12pm |
Does he have a good sense of humor? Which shows does he like? |
| Biggles |
Um, when I shout "ratties, ratties, ratties" they both come running for food..... Oh, I taught one of my budgies - Posy - to say "Budgie boy, budgie, budgie, budgie, budgie, budgie boy!" The "budgie"s in the middle all ran together into a sort of trill, but you could tell what he was saying. He also did a mean telephone impression! |
| RGirl | | posted 13-Feb-2006 11:07pm |
Rollover and sitting pretty is about it.
My Min Pin thinks going poo poo is a neat trick because I give her a treat when she does it outside, to keep her from doing it inside. It's so funny because she looks to make sure I'm watching her go and when she's done she bounces around in circles. |
