Roller Skating Rinks . . .. .

Indoor roller rinks were popular in the 80's. Many of them closed down. How deep was your involvement? This does not apply to ice skates or roller blades.

I used to be a skate guard at one rink and go to another rink as well, sometimes, when I hear a good 80's song it brings me back to those days of rolling through the darkness with flashing lights. . . . sniff . .I gotta go . . .

I went once or twice as part of a group event in school, but not otherwise... which I guess is "occasionally".

OH, I Loved them so very much. We used to have monthly skating parties, where all the kids from one grade would go. It was so much fun. My friends and I are trying to adopt a new place to go, but we'd have to end up driving pretty far. I'd love it if they built a new one. I'm sure everyone would go.

I liked them - we went every once in a while. We have pretty good RollerBlades and use them when we can, but it's hard finding a good, lightly-used place to ride them. Plus in New England there aren't a lot of months to use them in. Mostly we take them to my SO's work parking lot and roll around in it. It'd be nice if they had rinks we could use them in, maybe even tracks with jumps and stuff.

I went exactly once, while visiting family in New York. Growing up in southern California the ice kind were more interesting -- why go to a roller rink when you live in one?

I went a few times, but I was a terrible roller skater, so I didn't enjoy it much.

I checked "I miss roller rinks"; I didn't before reading this survey, but realized that that was fun, and I wouldn't mind doing it again. I don't miss the music, though.

I miss Roller Skating. I loved everything about it. The music, the lights, even the stupid "slow" song for couples.

I liked them. We used to have a lot of parties at roller rinks in grade school and middle school. It didn't bother me that much when the local one closed down, though. But this hundred year old historic wooden roller rink in the vicinity burned down last year, and that was pretty sad.

I've been rollerskating once. I rollerskated right of the end of the rink and didn't try again.

We used to go every weekend when we were kids.... Hangin out in the Snack Bar, Smoking in the bathroom, Hokey Pokey, Couples or backwards skating only... I lived in skating rinks from the time I was 8 till I was about 11 or 12... The rink I went to is still there btw..

I started sk8n @ age 3 in ' 73 . I'm 35 now and still sk8, but have retired from competitive sk8n in all areas of sk8n and still go for the fun of it and sometimes perform w/ my sk8n partner if asked . My best memory is in '85 when I was 15. The skategaurd quit and they got a new one. I was a "hot shot" show off sk8r so we didnt hit it off. long story short ... I'd spdsk8 on purpose to piss him off and to watch everyone make fun of him when he blew the whistle @me because I was going too fast and he couldn't see me but he could feel the breeze when I flew by him , so It looked like he was blowing the whistle at the air and it "TOTALLY" pissed him off repeatedly every weekend ! : )
