Are you free?

I don't define "free", that's up to you. I also don't include an answer of "it depends" because of course it depends and that's not what I'm asking. You may elaborate on what depends on the comments of course. Are you free?

Pretty much, yes. There are a lot of obligations and limitations on that freedom, but I choose those.

I don't think I am free. I live in a society that does not realize that it is socialist, bordering on communism. How else can you explain that the government takes my money any gives it to others who do not or can not make as much money as I do. I also live in Massachusetts, a state that continues to pass laws against many of the thinks that I enjoy. I could elaborate for pages but I will not bore you.

No. I am quite expensive. Most people could not afford my price.

I tagged this bad because the complete lack of any sort of restrictions on the word free make this too difficult to answer with out me being a smart ass. I could answer this as a pricing question, independence, responsibility. There's too many ways to go.

nope, I am tied down by my sense of responsibility...
although I am probably more free than many people in the world..

jjg - I think this is another case of, "what is your gut reaction?". When you first read it, what did you first think?

bill: a price tag was the first thing that came up. Then I thought independence or political freedom. As I stated, the answer is too variable for me to answer properly.

Yes. I'm at a loss to elaborate because I don't understand the thrust of the question.

Free of my family, of a boss that made my life hell, free to eat out, see friends, stay in bed late, eat too much, free to think what I want say what I want if I'm willing to accept the consequences.
Thank god almighty, I'm free at last...

More yes than no. Is this the "correct" type of way to answer such a question in the new warm 'n fuzzy SC? * smile *

I feel quite free except for those 40 to 50 hours per week I have to devote to money-earning pursuits.

The question came from Gerry Spence's recent book, Give Me Liberty, so in that context it definitely had a social/political slant to it. But I like the other definitions people used. I tell people I'm cheap and easy but they never seem to believe me.

Free to those who can afford it, terribly expensive for those who can't * smile *

Interesting question. I decided that I'm free but not inexpensive. Not that that means anything in particular.

I think if I define myself as not free, I have a lot less chance of achieving the sorts of freedom that I want.

Free with a purchase of $10 or more. I'm sometimes cheap, but I'm not easy.

Yes, I am. I can do anything I want. It just so happens that I WANT to be a responsible partner and parent, and I want to keep my job so I don't have to live in the street.

No,sadly, I don't think any of us are free. Freedom is an illusion that governments afford their citizens. It's also something they yank away from time-to-time and altogether eliminate, if they feel inclined to do so.
