| Maarten | posted 22-Jan-2003 5:46am This is 243, so 244 should be: CCXLIV |
| Zang | posted 22-Jan-2003 5:55am It has been many many years since I studied this in school, and as someone once said, I think it was Bart Simpson, the only place this comes in handy is deciphering the dates on movies. That is precisely what I know how to do, so, as this doesn't look like a date, I'm going to have to do it "backwards". MCML means 1950 I think, so M=1000, C=100, and L=50. When a small number is to the left of a big number you have to subtract it. CC=200...The answer is 243. The above is: "watching the Zangster thinking out loud"! |

| ROCKMAN | (reply to Zang) posted 22-Jan-2003 8:15am That is right,(243) I thought this up during a superbowl ad and they use romans for the number of game it is. I was going to do a harder one but thought I'd start out with an easy one. |
| Cain | posted 22-Jan-2003 9:01am I know what a roman numeral is, but I don't know what that particular roman numeral represents. |

| Enheduanna | posted 22-Jan-2003 10:13am 243. For some reason, early 20th century biblical scholars were very fond of using Roman numerals, so I see them all the time. I'm getting pretty good at reading them quickly. |

| scrubnurse | posted 23-Jan-2003 1:30am I have something else to say. I don't know the answer. I know what one is, just not this one! Ha! That seems funny to me since I like numbers - but I am not good with Roman ones! |

| Cleo | posted 24-Jan-2003 5:43pm C = ONE HUNDRED X = TEN L = FIFTY I = ONE So my answer is 243 If you add the two CC's it =200 then you since the X(TEN) is before the larger L(FIFTY) you must subtract the the X(ten) from the L(fifty) making it 40 then you add the reminding 3 III's that comes out 243 |
| juliw | (reply to justjulie) posted 24-Jan-2003 6:13pm Yay! You're back! |
