| juliw | posted 13-Jan-2003 5:43pm I have made a lot of friends at Survey Central; I get to play games, chat with friends, and look up stuff on the Internet. I love the Internet! |
| dora | posted 13-Jan-2003 6:22pm It helps me to communicate with people.I have met (some online some offline as well) people I couldn't have meet otherwise,I can make my music more known not to mention that I have always found easier to write than to talk so if I can type instead of talk is better. Well really there are times when I talk a LOT,but only with some people I already know or I like very much,on the Net instead I seem to go on very long rantings all the time! And it's easier to select those you want to communicate with, like you can find people with your same interests than in real life you wouldn't have the chance to meet. |
| harekrishnadasa | posted 13-Jan-2003 6:41pm I can find out more than I knew before. |
| Zang | posted 13-Jan-2003 6:47pm It has completely replaced television as a leisure time activity. It has allowed me to communicate and share my music with people all over the world, without leaving my home or having to deal with those scum bags in the music industry. Of course, it is also a great source of pornographic images! We can't forget that! |
| Biggles | posted 13-Jan-2003 7:02pm It's allowed me to access information online quickly and easily. It lets me stay in touch with friends and family. I'm able to communicate with people that otherwise I would never have the opportunity to meet. |
| utahblaine | posted 13-Jan-2003 7:16pm just made researching scams and stuff better, get a low down on information. i dont say gee i got a lip fungus and look up lip fungus and cure myself ..i use it as a means of information... then make a educated decision on how to treat it or get treatment. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 13-Jan-2003 9:45pm I communicate more but see people less. I do vastly more research on arts and sciences and such. Photos don't require mail. I stay up way late now. |
| Galomorro | posted 13-Jan-2003 9:49pm The Internet is one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me and the world. It has helped me to communicate with a lot more people and learn a lot more stuff than I ordinarily would since I am by nature an extreme introvert. I have found that I can express myself over the Internet much better than I can in person or over the fone. It's a huge encyclopedia and entertainment system at your fingertips with discussion groups for every interest. Not to mention some good survey sites to join. |
| ROCKMAN | posted 13-Jan-2003 10:53pm Info Info Info, and meeting people. and no Zang we can't forget about that! |
| LindaH | posted 14-Jan-2003 12:36am By consuming a huge portion of it. |
| Dino | posted 14-Jan-2003 4:32am The company I work for is an Internet Café chain so without that I wouldn't have my job. Also I have met you lot on SC and you are all quite wonderful. They say that everyone you 'meet' touches your life in some way and so I guess it would be arrogant of me to say that SC has not affected my life or opinions in some shape or form. Also I have met some people in real life and gone on events that I probably would never have met had the internet not existed. |
| Enheduanna | posted 14-Jan-2003 9:50am Well, it's definitely increased the number of ways I can find to waste time. It's also resulted in me generally being better informed; it probably saves me a lot of time, too. |
| Biggles | posted 14-Jan-2003 11:13am It's given me an easy way to take a break halfway through a revision session. It can be a bit of a distraction sometimes.... |
| dab | posted 14-Jan-2003 11:18am Amongst other things, it's been my career since I entered college. |
| Cain | posted 14-Jan-2003 11:36am Its opened a world of knowledge for me - there has never been a topic where I have not been able to find a wealth of information on the internet (apart from the biological basis of false memories). I have friends all over the world, some I have visited, some I have yet to visit. Because of the internet I got the opportunity to work ni a different part of the world and broaden my life with the experience. And best of all, there is Survey Central, where I can come and wile away many hours without feeling too guilty about the fact I should be doing revision. |
| Iseult | posted 14-Jan-2003 11:55am It englightened me. |
| southernyankee | posted 14-Jan-2003 2:43pm a lot. i now know how to get virtually any information i want. i can download stuff, and meet people living in different states and countries without actually meeting them. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 14-Jan-2003 4:36pm It's given me friends such as Cleo and Julie, who though miles from me, are still my friends. |
| kaleb777 | posted 14-Jan-2003 5:42pm I shop on line looking for the cheapest price. I pay bills on line, have hooked up new phone numbers, sent letters, re-enrolled for university, studied, researched, argued with lecturers, talked to people all over the world for the price of a 15c local call. I've listened to music I would have never bought, and downloaded songs I have been looking for but which were out of production. I've also seen several celebrities nude. |
| kaleb777 | posted 14-Jan-2003 5:46pm BTW, the W sound in Greek is the 6th letter, so that would make WWW = to 666. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to kaleb777) posted 14-Jan-2003 6:27pm What?! There is no w sound in Greek. The 6th letter of the Greek alphabet is zeta, which is pronounced like -dz-. |
| dora | (reply to kaleb777) posted 14-Jan-2003 6:51pm I remember hearing a similar story (or urban legend) with Hebrew... like 666 in Hebrews is WWW,but I don't know if it's true.I don't know Hebrew so...I can't tell. And Enheduanna is right,no "w" in Greek.Alfa beta gamma delta epsilon zeta.Zeta is the sixth. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 14-Jan-2003 7:18pm Vav is the closest to W in hebrew, also the 6th letter, associated with The Heirophant / Pope card in the Tarot. WWW also looks like World War something. 777 would be Cheth-Cheth-Cheth (the chariot). |
| mandy | posted 14-Jan-2003 11:04pm In the best and worst ways possible. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 15-Jan-2003 4:18pm The 7th Hebrew letter is zayin; cheth is 8th. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to kaleb777) posted 15-Jan-2003 4:20pm Hebrew vav is also waw--that is, it's v, w, and also o and u at times. And it is the 6th Hebrew letter, so WWW in Hebrew would be 666! |
| LindaH | (reply to kaleb777) posted 15-Jan-2003 10:55pm I always thought fox was an interesting word. F is the 6th letter, O is the 15th, X is the 24th. Could the FOX network be....... uh, never mind. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 16-Jan-2003 3:20am Ignore the following: [Only since the introduction of Vet. 1-Aleph, 2-Beth, 3-Gimel, 4-Daleth, 5-He, 6-Vau, 7-Cheth, 8-Teth, 9-Yod. That's the presentation in all the metaphysical books on kaballah and tarot, which is the language which should apply to such silly things as 666 as well. Sure, 2&3 are now bet & vet, and 9&10 are now het & tet, but close enough for common practical metaphysical work. If all the common metaphysical texts are wrong about the ancient alphabet, please let me know.] I jumped to the wrong reason there, and spaced out on Zayin altogether. So much for the lovers card. |
| Cleo | posted 16-Jan-2003 4:08am Info,info,info............friends,friends,friends. |
| Cleo | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 16-Jan-2003 4:11am Awwwww! Thanks Kate!(((((HUGS)))) |
| Lahdee | (reply to LindaH) posted 16-Jan-2003 9:12am You net addict. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 16-Jan-2003 9:54am *blithely not ignoring* I wouldn't say vet is a separate letter. It would be like saying the letter c in English is two (or even three) different letters because it's pronounced /k/ and /s/, and sometimes /ch/. But I don't know how kabbalists and the like count these things. (Although as far as I know, it's usually one letter.) |
| LindaH | (reply to Lahdee) posted 16-Jan-2003 11:05am |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 16-Jan-2003 2:50pm Oh, sorry. Why did I say Greek? |
| kaleb777 | (reply to LindaH) posted 16-Jan-2003 2:52pm Fox is also the President of Mexico, which I thought kinda weird. Oooooo! |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 16-Jan-2003 2:54pm So what meaning would you get from 777? That number is important to me. |
| LindaH | (reply to kaleb777) posted 16-Jan-2003 4:08pm |
| Matt | posted 16-Jan-2003 6:23pm I've met some nice people because of the internet who have changed my life. |
| mandy | (reply to Matt) posted 16-Jan-2003 10:00pm like who? |
| Matt | (reply to mandy) posted 16-Jan-2003 11:14pm so many people to name! |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 16-Jan-2003 11:25pm I'm used to the simpler alphabet (22 letters) in metaphysical books. I only recently picked up a grade school hebrew language primer which distinguishes the letters, and made a conclusion that that is how it is organized these days. But then I may have assumed too much. This primer may be the english equivalent of learning with phonics. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 16-Jan-2003 11:31pm Enheduanna was right. I spaced out. 777 would be Zayin-Zayin-Zayin. Zayin in the Tarot is the lovers card which represents choices, the prospect of free-will and autonomy in a previously non-autonomous environment. Three sevens is 21 or the judgement card, definitely a prominent archetype in your character. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 17-Jan-2003 2:34am That's weird. I thought as I was reading your explanation that those three numbers are really me. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 17-Jan-2003 4:24am The cards can represent tendencies and such, like an archetypal ingredient list, but i think of them as a path, and that eventually we work our way through all of them. I too saw the 777 relating to you, but as sceptics will point out, people will take on any generality. It sure fits more than half of them would though. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 17-Jan-2003 9:29am Yeah, I've seen some of those books, too, and it does sometimes look like they're teaching the letter with dagesh (bet vs. vet) as a separate letter. I'm not sure to what extent most teachers would stress that; it is also a modern Hebrew thing, not an ancient Hebrew thing. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to kaleb777) posted 17-Jan-2003 9:31am Maybe zombies made you do it! |
| cpierson | posted 17-Jan-2003 10:58am Got published, got a job (that resulted in my moving to a different country), found my apartment, met several of my best friends and my girlfriend ... so no, it hasn't changed my life much. :P |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 17-Jan-2003 2:37pm I've tried thinking like that about star signs. I definitely only fit one sign. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 17-Jan-2003 5:42pm Is it your sign? I'm not much of an astrologer. I can see some taurus and piscies in you, maybe a bit of capricorn, even some libra (not even sure what sag. is about). Whatever, it's got to be one of those earthy, somewhat stubborn signs which balances out through reticence. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Cleo) posted 17-Jan-2003 7:39pm Not so hard! I can't breathe! |
| Cleo | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 17-Jan-2003 9:29pm It's a bad habit,I know. I don't know my own strength sometimes. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Cleo) posted 17-Jan-2003 9:43pm |
| Okiryu | posted 17-Jan-2003 10:58pm I don't know how I ever lived without it before. I got so many answers to vital questions. |

| Cleo | (reply to Okiryu) posted 17-Jan-2003 11:49pm Are you Japanese? I like your handle. |
| romkey | posted 18-Jan-2003 2:35am de intahnet been berry berry good to me. |

| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 18-Jan-2003 1:16pm I'm a water sign. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 18-Jan-2003 8:44pm I could imagine anything but an air sign from you. You get too riley for a cancer or piscies, which leaves scorpio the more manic-depressive of the signs, switching from agressive to broody. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 19-Jan-2003 2:58pm Piscies can be moody, and Cancers get cranky and have to retreat to solitude on a regular basis. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 20-Jan-2003 8:24am Are you telling me you're a Cancer? |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 21-Jan-2003 3:41pm Hmmm. I don't like giving out much info, even the star sign narrows down what my birth date could be. Do I get cranky and bugger off regularly? |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 21-Jan-2003 6:54pm it's ok. |
| Mego0715 | posted 28-Jan-2003 12:54am I think it has changed my life in many ways - too many for me to know. I cannot imagine not having it now. |
| mischy | posted 28-Jan-2003 8:30am I met my "One" on the internet! So it has drastically changed my life! However since we are now in a very long distance relationship it has not necassarily changed it for the better! |
| Yarbroughhunter | posted 28-Feb-2003 3:25am Well, I sit up late at night typing in the dark now. |
| pinkfloyd29 | posted 17-Mar-2003 1:34pm It has made me realize that there is a lot of unused information. |

| linny21 | posted 23-Mar-2003 10:56pm Learned some things, chatted with people I probably would never have met before...lots of ways. |
| RGirl | posted 4-Feb-2006 12:30am Well, I live in a small town right now & I didn't have anyone to talk to about books and records. It really fills that need, to share like that. I've learned a lot about my medications & medical issues. I've been able to buy gifts for people I never would have been able to find. And other stuff. |
| clare | posted 12-Aug-2006 1:31am In countless ways. Through the internet I can rent movies (Nelflix) which is a real boon when you live in a smallish town and the only video store is Blockbuster. I can buy flea medication for my cat online at PetMeds and get it cheaper than from the vet. I can research to my heart's content and interact with people all over the globe. I can send and receive letters without having to dig out a postage stamp. I can pay bills without leaving the comfort of my home. |
