It wasn't really bungee jumping but the bungee swing. I marked bungee jumpng because it was the closest thing.

I have done Reverse Bungee Cage and Skydiving. I have a video of my skydive where another guy with a video cam taped the whole thing. He hung outside of the plane (14,000 ft) while I did three forward flips out of the plane, did a 120mph free-fall for 60 seconds, and then floated carelessly to the ground where my camera guy was already waiting to film my 'tippy-toe' landing. It was by far the best thing I have ever done. I intend on doing it again. Then, they made my video right there with all this cool equipment. They cut it, put in music, did some special effects. When we took of in the (tin can plane on a dirt runway) the music playing was Crazy by Seal. Then, of course, when the video switched to me just getting ready to jump, I had them put in Jump by Van Halen. It is such a great video. I think I was high for at least two months and I am all tingly talking about it now!!! I am ready!
The reverse bungee was pretty cool. I forget how many G's it is, but it's fun, too with a little scary anticipation.

The only thing remotely "dangerous" I have ever done is go mat-surfing when there were "red tides" and strong undertows (which dragged me under and I nearly lost the mat's rope). That was many years ago near Santa Monica, CA

I've climbed, weaselled, orienteered, bridge built, and swum in a really cold lake in the lake district. All the outdoor activity enthusiasts move to Sheffield when they leave school so that they can have access to the countryside around here, then they need to make money so they train as teachers. Every schoolchild in rural Sheffield will have done all the things I have.

In rappelling, the ropes aren't stretchy, and you slide down them in a controlled fashion. It's how mountain climbers get back down. Basically you jump a way from the cliff face, and let loose a few feet of rope until your feet meet the cliff again. There are two types of rope control mechanisms these days. The old type stops sliding when you yank the rope and offers better control. I prefer the new type where you have to pull a lever to let loose slack, because I'm afraid of falling unconscious in which case you go the Wile E coyote route. With the old type, you can have the person below you pull your rope to stop you too (or for that matter remotely lower you in case you lose it). With the new type they'd have climb back up to rescue you.

I guess someone probably already told you this since I have been gone. It's when you go off like a cliff with a rope, backwards, and kinda 'jump' down the cliff or maybe more like 'hop'. You have the rope in a contraption around you and kinda go 'boing boing boing' and you go down. make sense? it would be someting like how you get down after rock climbing.? I hope this makes sense...

We can't be on SC 24 hours a day. I'm sorry about your car accident, I hope it wasn't too serious. It's definitely not for those with fear of heights. Have you been caving? Does the same fear apply underground? I enjoy walking on railroad trestles or wire mesh bridges, watching the ground below as I walk. It's like walking in mid-air.
Yarbroughhunter
(reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 1-Mar-2003 11:03am
Well, again not the proper way. I do know that exploring caves is dangerous. When I lived in Denver, a group of high school kids (on their own)climbed over a barrier inside a cave so they could explore it. They were quickly overcome by cave gas almost as soon as they made it over. I've never done any serious caving. Haven't had the opportunity. No, I don't have a fear of dark enclosed places. I'm not claustrophobic. I believe my fear of heights is associated with a car accident that occurred when I was very young. We lost control on a bridge and well, we left the road.

In most serious caving, ropes and rapelling are involved again. At least when one falls off a mountain, they fall closer to society and medical care. In a cave, you always have to wonder if you can get back up. My favorite climbing cave had a passage between chambers called the corkscrew. You had to decide whethar to start slithering through on your belly or back, because you would end up on the opposite, poking into the next chamber a dozen feet up it's wall.
