| Biggles | posted 5-Jan-2003 9:25pm The stretch of countryside between Sheffield and Manchester - as seen from the Snake Pass or the railway track between the two cities. It's the sort of moorland that gets right inside you and the sweeping hills that make your head soar and rush and your heart expand. Maybe that's because it's the kind of countryside that screams "home" to me. |

| Cain | posted 6-Jan-2003 5:32am Lindos on Rhodes is sort of encapsulated (is that a word) by two peninsulas. On the tip of one is the tomb of Kleobolus. You cna sit on top of that and look to your right where the village is and see genuine joy and contentment on the faces of the people on the beach, backed by the lovely little white buildings. You can look straight ahead into the sea that shines a stunning blue/green and could stretch forever. You can look left and see the rugged landscape of cliffs and rocky plains where only the most hardy animals can live. To my eyes, truly beautiful. Alternatively, you can go up to Scrone above the village of drumnadrochit in the Highlands. At just the right spot you can see the 15 miles up and 11 miles down the loch. Urquhart Castle is just below you and because the Hihland weather is so unpredictable, everytime you go it will be different. |

| CarolL | (reply to Dino) posted 6-Jan-2003 9:23am Canada is very beautiful. The maple trees turn so many beautiful colours in the autumn -- not all the same. Some are yellow, some red, some luxurious brown. A hillside of maples with all the colours looks particularly lovely. In my opinion, there aren't enough red ones. |

| Zang | (reply to dab) posted 6-Jan-2003 2:29pm Yes, I was born here, and live in Vancouver's Chinatown in a 5th floor apartment with a beautiful view of the mountains. Yes, you should see Alaska! We did it as a road-trip in late July, early August. The temperatures were damn close to what we had at home at the same time. We used a pickup truck with one of those camper things on the back. There's gobs of RV parks. It seems that a lot of those retired Americans in the big motor-homes that travel all over the place like to go up there. We saw more of them on the road than anything else. |

| pandora | posted 10-Jan-2003 8:48am The most beautiful thing I've ever seen was during a vacation to Ecuador. I was riding in a car, down a mountain to the beach, and we went through a very long tunnel. When we reached the end, our driver said, 'just look to the right', and it was a vertical cliff, about 200 feet, right beside us. Across the gap were 3 waterfalls, flowing down the other side of the semi-valley thing. Hard to explain, and I'd be surprised to meet another person who's seen it, but it was astounding. Not a tourist place by any means, just a bit of a roadside attraction/distraction for those that would dare venture out on an Ecuadorian highway. Incredible, I say. |
| mailman | posted 10-Jan-2003 8:50am After spending 8 1/2 years playing sailor in the Navy, you get to see some nice and not so nice places. Sunset in the Atlantic Ocean in the middle of nowhere. Seas are calm and darkness starts to fall. The skies are filled with reds, yellows, and orange. You can hear the gentle waves splashing up against the side of the ship. This causes the ship to gently rock causing you to fall asleep like a baby rocking in its mothers arms. Then reality sets in and the next day all hell breaks loose as you try to get the ship into Bermuda during a hurricane as the ship is running out of fuel. Little tug boats trying desperately to keep the big destroyer off of the rocks and get it dockside. Just as the crew tosses the lines to the dock, the ships engine die due to no fuel. Bouncing off of the dock the crew finally gets the mighty destroyer secured dockside. The next morning the sky is clear and you can see to the bottom of the bay as you look through the sea water. It's that Bermuda Triangle thing! |

| Mego0715 | posted 27-Jan-2003 11:27pm I don't think that there could ever be just one -there must be an endless amount. When I was younger, I thought the farm that I lived on was the most beautiful place in the world - particularly when everything was growing in the summer. |
| mischy | posted 28-Jan-2003 7:22am I don't know if I'm qualified to answer this question because I haven't been everywhere in the world, but I'd have to say out on the other side of the railroad tracks by McHugh Creek. You can see the mountains surrounding the ocean on all sides and some days when there is a light mist and the sun is shining you not only get the glimmer of the sun on the ocean but also a beautiful double rainbow - not to mention the whales, dull sheep, moose, eagles and occasional bears that can be seen! |

| Yarbroughhunter | posted 28-Feb-2003 4:35am ooo that is so hard. Tropical islands with their crystal clear waters and lush vegetation, or majestic mountains standing tall and stark and rocky....by the way, I love coming out of the Mojave Desert into the mountains like you are going to Bakersfield, CA. The lush greens make me think of what Ireland must look like...I've never been there. And all those windmills! It's just beautiful. But I thought that the waters in the Bahamas were beautiful and looking down on the clouds in the Blue Ridge was fascinating and climbing the Rockies was breath taking... so I guess I just love the beauties of the outdoors period. I've not spent a great deal of time with snow, but it is beautiful too. I even like the desert, some. |
