| juliw | posted 1-Jan-2003 6:47pm January 2002-returned to work after being off for 5 months due to a stroke. I had undergone a lot of physical therapy to learn how to walk and type again. March 2002-went to the doctor. My health had improved so much that he took me off one of my medications. June 2002-had a slight stroke, went back on the medication. Other than that, nothing major. Just the ordinary ups and downs of life. Became better friends with some of the SC buddies, quit being friends with a person from work, had a wonderful Christmas, and a very good year! |
| SueBee | posted 1-Jan-2003 8:59pm It wasn't a particularly eventful year for me. My biggest accomplishment was getting a decent score on the postal exam. It's been 6 months and I haven't gotten called for an interview yet, but sometimes it takes awhile, so it's still a possibility. The special thing this year was celebrating my 10th Anniversary with Mandy in December. I don't know how those 10 years sped by so fast, but they've been great and they just keep getting better! |
| they | posted 1-Jan-2003 9:17pm I started working from home, we've owned our home for one year now, Mary turned 3, I got a pay increase, been seeing a fertility specialist, adopted a new dog, celebrated my one year anniversary at work(coming up on two now), and then there's the bad stuff. |
| Zang | posted 1-Jan-2003 11:08pm I recently broke my previous record for celibacy. It has been about 20 months now. I think my previous record was near 18 months, that was around 15 years ago. |
| actress | posted 1-Jan-2003 11:39pm I didn't really like 2002. I'm hoping and praying that 2003 is much better. No, 2003 will be much better. |
| Dino | posted 2-Jan-2003 4:31am Well the first half of the year was pretty lame as was usual with my life. I did start getting my little apartment together. Finally bought a couch and chairs to sit on and so stopped living like a squatter having to always sit on my bed. Bought a computer with a bonus I got paid at work. Then at the end of July I went on a 'Learn To Swim' holiday and it seemed to signify a big change in my life - as if that event opened up some doorways. Made some new friends and started getting out more. Joined a fab website that hooks up guys who just want to be mates and meet up with other guys for drinks etc and that's been brilliant and I've met loads of new people. Started to gain a lot of confidence in myself. Tried a lot of new experiences. Went to an S&M for Beginners night and then went once a month - so far I've been vacuum packed naked in rubber, paddled whilst bent over a motorbike, received mild electric shocks. Decided that sexually I'm still quite vanilla but felt good to have tried these things. Went out dancing more and had the confidence to do so. Met some cute guys but then panicked and dumped them or never called them back. Scared of commitment. Which therefore makes me wonder if 2003 will be the year to actually have a relationship with someone. I think my priorities are still to invest more in friendships. As Armistead Maupin said in 'Tales of The City' - "Who needs a lover when you have five good friends" |
| ROCKMAN | posted 2-Jan-2003 10:32am I had a pretty good year overall, the best or most fun were the 3 float trips down different rivers I took, and finding this site and meeting thepeople here's been fun. Made some good money buying and selling horses too. |
| Iseult | posted 2-Jan-2003 1:00pm It's been rather stupid year. I hope this one is better. |

| dora | posted 2-Jan-2003 6:01pm At Christmas we ate a lot, chatted about necrophilia (the usual crazy conversations we have on family reunions). St. Sylvester I was at home, just drank a quick glass of sparkling wine with parents, watched the fireworks from the window, went to bed at midnight and 1/2,wrote a song and fell asleep at 1:00.BUT during the day I went out shopping and bought a new (used) pair of boots for 15,a used record by Emmylou Harris for 2.50,a used bag for 4 and two inexpensive bracelets for my friends.A beautiful necklace also, but I keep that for me! 1st of January.Went to visit two friends, wrote 3 songs in half an hour (after almost 7th months! If you dont count the one I wrote in bed the night before...)brought them the bracelets, received a perfumed candle, chatted and laughed a lot, visited the city, saw a beautiful church, drank vodka out of a Satanic Thermos aka the 9th Thermos (it's a long thing to tell..if you want to really know I'll tell it!)and a beer, walked an awful lot, lost the train, visited one of my friends' scary relatives, took the train...basically chatting, walking for several miles, going from 0 C to 40 C (the train was HOT!)...today I'm sick.My throat hurts so badly! I mean...0 C to 40C!...that was the only bad thing...that and losing the train...well but I had the chance to spend more time with friends. I somehow hope that my year will be like this first day, even though these temperatures and walking could kill me before I turn 40! |
| dora | posted 2-Jan-2003 6:02pm Oh,I thought you asked what I had done of New's Years' Eve. What I have done in 2002 is rather boring...let's say almost nothing? I became more relaxed and adult though... |
| Iseult | (reply to harekrishnadasa) posted 2-Jan-2003 9:37pm No, it's okay. But thanks for asking me. |
| Frostbrand | posted 2-Jan-2003 10:19pm New job, new friends, new home, new Star Wars flick was better than the last one, Spider-Man, read some good books, found out the woman I loved had a baby with a guy who wasn't me, got sick, got pissed off at people on the news... Same crap different year. |
| wolfchik9 | posted 3-Jan-2003 5:21am I moved out of my parents' house and into my SO's apartment. My SO & I started our own business: gel candles and sterling silver & Swarovski crystal jewelry. My mom found out that she's not as healthy as she used to be. I learned that it's not easy being on your own. I learned that it's really not easy starting your own business but it's loads of fun. I learned that most people are stupid (present company excluded). I found that many people are out there to help each other. I was blessed with the birth of a new baby cousin (Corrine Brooke) and my friend's new baby brother (Kyle James). I was blessed with the beauty and love of babies. I was blessed with the loveof a beautiful man. I was blessed with the love of my wonderful parents. My grandma had gall bladder surgery (finally). My aunt found out she has more kidney stones. My little cousins have grown up and gotten SOs. One of my nieces has grown taller than me. I have gained control of my illness. I have developed a stronger sense of self-confidence. I had a shake-up then a make-up with my sister. We tried to "fix up" my SO's parents' house. We lost a car. We got rid of a terrible roommate. We enjoyed the year, in general. |
| LindaH | posted 3-Jan-2003 12:13pm It wasn't perfect, but it was 100 times better than the last half of 2001, that's for sure. |
| Jemmy | posted 3-Jan-2003 2:22pm I liked 2002. I had a good year. I tend to think of things more in terms of school years though, not actual years. |
| kaleb777 | posted 3-Jan-2003 7:35pm This year wasn't anything special personally, but as far as Australia went, our innocence ended. The Bali terrorist attack killed about 90 Australians, and we have suddenly been made aware that we are a target with Bin Laden mentioning the way we fought to liberate East Timor from Indonesia, and with an Indonesian Muslim Cleric revealing plans to include Australia in a SE Asian Islamic state. Australia suddenly feels like a fortress, with people holidaying at home rather than Thailand or Bali. I think a lot of people here are quite shocked at how the rest of the world is. Australia was always safe and free. Now for some reason we have people out there who want to take that away from us. 2002 sucked. |
| harekrishnadasa | (reply to Iseult) posted 4-Jan-2003 12:29am You can talk to me anytime! Friday January 3 6:34 PM EST Wind Storm Batters Canadian, U.S. Pacific Coast VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - A storm slammed the Pacific coast of North America leaving towering shiploaders at a Canadian port in a twisted wreck and playing havoc with tracking equipment used by the U.S. Coast Guard, officials said on Friday. Two people were injured when winds gusting at more than 100 km/h (65 mph) knocked over the mobile towers used to load coal into ocean freighters at the Deltaport facility at Roberts Bank near Vancouver late on Thursday, a spokesman for Westshore Terminals said. The company said the workers were evacuating the towers, which are about four stories high, when a sudden gust knocked one of towers into the water and the other into a ship that was being loaded. "In 15 seconds the wind went from 31 mph to 69 mph, and that was obviously too much for them," Ray Dykes said. "It's a twisted mess." Dykes said the towers are each worth between C$10 million and C$15 million and it is expected to take at least three months to replace them. A third loading tower at the facility was undamaged. Westshore handles about 20 million tonnes of coal annually and is talking with customers about contingency plans. "They want to move coal and we want to move coal," Dykes said. South of the border, heavy rains brought scattered flooding and power outages to Washington state, where a U.S. Coast Guard facility in Seattle lost contact with a coastal radar and radio network used to monitor vessel traffic. U.S. Coast Guard repair crews restored some communications on Friday by moving equipment to a nearby ship while workers repaired computers and telephones knocked out by flooding in the basement of the station on shore. The storm also caused power outages in southwestern British Columbia. At its height, early on Friday, as many as 80,000 customers were without electricity, BC Hydro said. The winds eased by midday on Friday, but another storm in the Pacific Ocean was predicted to hit the region early on Saturday with high winds and rain. Hare Krishna! |
| Biggles | posted 4-Jan-2003 4:19pm Well, I passed 5 and a half A-levels (Biology, Chemistry, Politics, Sociology, General Studies and Archaeology) with high grades (A B A A A B) that were good enough to meet my offer from Oxford. Started at my college in Oxford in October reading Biological Sciences. Made several very, very good friends. Took up rowing. Won the Wigram prize from my old school because of my good A-level results - it was a cheque for £350 Those are the things that stick out in my mind - no great tears that I can remember. All in all, it was a good year for me. |
