| Dino | posted 23-Dec-2002 7:17am Too much hard work for me. Nice effort though. |
| icurok | posted 23-Dec-2002 8:12am The options don't match the answers, and you would have thought that given the 30 year span there would be 10 different years. Pity, it was a nice idea. Chernobyl, Top Gun, 1986 Nixon, Young Frankenstein, 1974 Challenger, Top Gun again, 1986 again Tiananmen Square, Batman, 1989 Mt St Helens, The Shining, 1980 Mexico City, Cocoon, 1985 Kent State, Patton, 1970 Diana, Titanic, 1997 Gorbachev, Ghost or Dick Tracy, 1990 Mandela, Dick Tracy or Ghost, 1990 again Unused year, Die Hard, 1998. |
| Enheduanna | posted 23-Dec-2002 10:27am The only one I can guess is the most recent--Princess Diana and As Good as it Gets, etc. On the rest, I have no idea. Too many of these are blended together too close in my memory to be able to distinguish. |
| Zang | posted 23-Dec-2002 11:09am Whew! That was tough! Too many clustered around the late 80s and early 90s! I found the earliest ones the easiest: 1970 - Kent State - MASH 1974? - Watergate - Young Frankenstein 1980 - Mount St. Helen's - Blues Brothers 1981? - Chernobyl - Ferris Bueller 1986? - Challenger - Dick Tracy 1987? - earthquake - Cook Thief 1989? - pro-democracy - Color Purple 1991? - Mandela - Roger Rabbit? 1993? - Gorbachev - Home Alone 1999? - Diana - Titanic I'm just guessing most of the dates. I thought most of the movies were older, and the incidents were more recent, so I had to shuffle things around a bit to make them match up. I haven't seen most of these movies. Good challenge! Well done! |
| Zang | (reply to NthenSome) posted 23-Dec-2002 11:20am Is icurok correct? He seems to be speaking with some authority, (as if he cheated or something...) |
| icurok | (reply to Zang) posted 23-Dec-2002 12:32pm Pah! Cheat! Moi! I have to admit that if it had just been the historical events I would have had a little more trouble, but I'm a total nerd when it comes to film trivia so I managed to guess the events I didn't know for sure (like Watergate, the Kent State shootings and Mt. St Helens) by using the films. |
| southernyankee | posted 23-Dec-2002 1:34pm ok, i am not gonna even try. but i remeber most of these events but somehow and recognize most of theses movies, but somehow, i cant remeber waht happend when. its reallly amazing how quickly we forget. |
| Zang | (reply to icurok) posted 23-Dec-2002 1:54pm So you didn't check a reference or anything? That's what I meant. I was just kind of kidding about the "cheating". I thought you might have looked it up afterwards. Kent State and Mt. St. Helen's were the only two I WAS able to date! |
| icurok | (reply to Zang) posted 23-Dec-2002 2:55pm Kent State, Watergate and Mt St Helens are the only three I had trouble with because they're the only three I have no living memory of, although I guessed which order they occured in and applied that to the fact that I knew Patton, Young Frankenstein and the Shining came out in 1970, 1974 and 1980 respectively (as I have them all on tape). I remember Chernobyl and the Challenger disaster both being 1986 (it was also the year the Prince Andrew was married to Sarah Ferguson). The date of Princess Diana's death is something that's ingrained on every British mind whether they want it or not, and it's probably the closest thing we Brits have to a "Where were you when you heard that Kennedy had been shot?" moment. |
| Zang | (reply to icurok) posted 23-Dec-2002 4:57pm I remember all three of those, but Watergate was strung out over a few years, unlike the other two. I also remember the challenger thing because one of my buddies woke me up and asked if I wanted to watch it explode over and over again on every channel. I know I was living in that place in 1985 and 1986 so I figured it was 1986. I saw Young Frankenstein in the theater, so I knew that was around 1974 or 1975 because of the friends I saw it with. |
| Biggles | posted 24-Dec-2002 8:29am I know a lot of the years that the things happened, but I have no idea about most of the films. |
| wolfchik9 | posted 4-Jan-2003 12:42am I can't even begin to figure this one out! |
| rubylillysue | posted 4-Nov-2007 10:26am 1986
1974 1986 1989 1980 1985 not sure in the late 60's Late 80's 1992 |
