Yes. Well, at least to the first part, which is the only part that people sing regularly. There are lots more verses, but I don't know them all.

My national anthem is God Save the Queen (I think). It's a silly song about an institution that I don't believe should exist and is outdated making references to a different era of British history. I've never heard it in its entirety - just snippets - and don't really intend to. So, no, I don't know it at all.

I think I could get through the first verse but none of the others. Wait a minute, is there more than one verse?

I know the beginning. Like all national anthems, Canada's is rife with absolute gibberish. I tend to think of it as a grouping of nonsensical syllables that fit nicely with the music. You often hear it sung at hockey games: "O Canada our home and native land true patriot love in all thy sons command with glowing hearts we see thee rise the true north strong and free..."

I didn't realize "true north" was part of the anthem. Margaret Atwood has an essay called "True North." The title makes much more sense now!

Margaret Atwood is Canadian! * smile *

Yes, unless there are more than two verses. I know two verses of "The Star Spangled Banner". I wish "America, The Beautiful" was our national anthem. It is prettier, easier to sing, and I would rather hear about purple mountain majesties than bombs bursting in air.

Some people checked yes because they know the "famous" part of their hymn, but that's cheating!!

It occurred to me that I'm not terribly sure what my national anthem is. I'm not a patriotic type and I never paid much attention to stuff like this....

I would say yes, except that I found out a few years back that it has like four or five verses. I only know the words to the first verse. My National Anthem is "The Star Spangled Banner", in case someone doesn't know I'm American.

I only know some of the words.

"God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen."

...and that's all I know. * frown *

You know more than me!!! All I knew was "God save the Queen." I always get it mixed up with Rule Britannia - even worse, we sang a silly version of Rule Britannia at school (featuring mermaids) and I get that mixed up with it as well.

I know some of it.
"Oh, say can you see
by the dawn's early light
what so proudly we've hailed
by the twilight's last gleaming
whose bright stripes and bright stars
through the perilous fight
o'er the ramparts we watched...
and the rockets red glare
the bombs bursting in air
gave proof through the night
that our flag was still there
oh say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
for the land of the free
and the home of the brave."

Why is this under politics/religion? What, if anything, does that have to do with one's national anthem?

Oh Canada
Our home and native land
True Patriot Love
In All Our Sons Command
With Glowing hearts we see thee rise
The True North Strong and Free
From far and wide o canada
we stand on guard for thee
God Keep our land
Glorious and free
O Canada we stand on guard for thee
O Canada we stand on guard for thee
