I looked "source" on the Merriam-Webster and the only word with the same meaning that can be right is root.
Maybe that was cheating,I don't know.

Leave(s)? They can be medicine and food. They are sources of origin since they make the soil (or part of it) and then new plants originate out of them. One can leave up or take leave. The only one I'm not sure on is "'leave' up"
