| Biggles | posted 1-Nov-2002 10:12am Well, the only "holiday" we have special food for is Christmas. The only food we have then that we don't have at any other point of the year is Christmas Cake (which I'm not keen on), Mince Pies (which are ok) and Christmas Pudding. So Christmas Pudding (with LOTS of cream |

| juliw | posted 2-Nov-2002 12:06pm My great-great grandmother's dried apple cake recipe. Originally, they actually dried apples on the roof. Now, we just dry them out in the oven. It is kind of like a spice cake, with lots of raisins and apples in it. Very delicious. Someone always makes one at Christmas time. I like the homemade dressing (stuffing) my family makes for Thanksgiving. I have a recipe for Dorito Dip, that I like to take to holiday parties. Brown one pound of ground beef and one pound of bulk sausage (such as Bob Evans. Drain and return to pan. Add 1 pounds of Velveeta cheese, and heat until cheese is melted. Add one can of undiluted cream of mushroom soup. Heat and serve with Doritos or Tostitos. You can add onions if desired. It is delicious, and makes a lot! |
| Glassa | posted 2-Nov-2002 12:35pm Well, my grandmother made this for Christmas a couple years ago and it's almost become a necessity for Christmas dinner: Oreo Ice Cream Pie 1 package of Oreo cookies crushed 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream, softened 8 ounce tub of Cool Whip 1/2 a jar of hot fudge 1/2 a jar of hot caramel Spread all but 1 cup of the Oreos in the bottom of a casserole dish. Spread the ice cream on top of that. Place in freezer for 30 minutes to let the ice cream harden. Heat up the fudge and caramel and spread this over the ice cream. Place this back in the freezer for a few minutes to let the ice cream harden again. Then spread the Cool Whip on top of the fudge and caramel. Sprinkle the remaining Oreos on the Cool Whip. Keep in the freezer until ready to serve. |
