What should I call the dog?

I'm getting a greyhound from an animal shelter next week.

Any suggestions for a name?
The name must be applicable to both male and female dogs.

The author of the winning suggestion gets a prize.

First and foremost you need to consider the dogs communication skills. It will have a basic understanding of language and so it best to think of names in terms of sounds. If it was a female dog I would perhaps call it 'Lulu'.

I can't think of a name that is suitable for both male and female. Sorry but whatever you decide remember the language sounds.

How about 'Pépé' for a male dog?

I've always wanted to adopt a greyhound!

Ok, one more entry to tell you our pet's names:

Russell Dougherty (dog)
Stewart Baker (dog)
Demus (Moose) (dog)
Robert Hunter (Boo-Boo-Kitty) (cat)
Bogart (parrot)

Oh, I used to have a dog named Deeogee (D.O.G.) accent on the "o" - Ok, I promise I will stop now.

Yeah.. I like the idea of making it two words and just calling him Gray unless someone asks his name.

Santa's Little helper was the first i thought of too, which is why I didn't even bother to list it.

Well, my votes on Isuldur, Lulu, or Streaker so far.

I like the idea, but it might not necessarily be a grey dog so I don't want to incorporate the colour into the name.

I really like deeogee.

Dusty, or Smokey is nice. It depends what colour it is though.
I've always liked the name Jewel, for a dog, but I dunno if it would apply to a Greyhound.

I see what you mean. When do you get the dog? Do you pick one, or do you just take the next one "up for adoption"? That is a great thing you are doing. I only know one person who did that and that dog was wonderful. It was like he knew how lucky he was. I am glad you like that name. It is much more fun to say in person than in writing, isn't it? And I guess you could spell it a few different ways, too. Good luck to you!
