| Dino | posted 31-Oct-2002 8:55am First and foremost you need to consider the dogs communication skills. It will have a basic understanding of language and so it best to think of names in terms of sounds. If it was a female dog I would perhaps call it 'Lulu'. I can't think of a name that is suitable for both male and female. Sorry but whatever you decide remember the language sounds. How about 'Pépé' for a male dog? |

| they | posted 31-Oct-2002 9:09pm How about Gray? or Gary for that matter... |
| they | (reply to Dino) posted 31-Oct-2002 9:12pm Uck.. 'LULU' is what my mother-in-law calls female genitals.. It always make me sick, that word. |
| rhino3 | posted 31-Oct-2002 9:29pm Ok, this is dumb. Maybe I can come up with a better one later. Cainam Ok, not a word, but MANIAC spelled backwards... I need more to go on... |
| rhino3 | (reply to they) posted 31-Oct-2002 9:33pm they: How 'bout gray matter? It's mind over matter. If you don't mind, It don't matter... sorry, I think I am getting tired. |
| rhino3 | posted 31-Oct-2002 9:45pm Ok, one more entry to tell you our pet's names: Russell Dougherty (dog) Stewart Baker (dog) Demus (Moose) (dog) Robert Hunter (Boo-Boo-Kitty) (cat) Bogart (parrot) Oh, I used to have a dog named Deeogee (D.O.G.) accent on the "o" - Ok, I promise I will stop now. |
| they | (reply to rhino3) posted 31-Oct-2002 9:50pm Yeah.. I like the idea of making it two words and just calling him Gray unless someone asks his name. |
| jettles | posted 31-Oct-2002 10:18pm slim shady!!?? |
| rhino3 | (reply to they) posted 31-Oct-2002 10:20pm Me too, but is it Gray or Grey and does it matter? Oh no, not more matter... I like either one. |
| they | (reply to rhino3) posted 31-Oct-2002 10:47pm It's both.. but I like Gray. |
| rhino3 | (reply to they) posted 31-Oct-2002 11:12pm Me too, I like that very much...I am sure Cain is listening...what do you think, Cain? I just remembered a dog from my childhood named GrayTrax...a neighbor's dog. |

| Kristal_Rose | posted 1-Nov-2002 3:19am Ralph is one of my favorite dognames, but not suitable for greyhound. Hmm.. let's see... Alexandria. Snorkle-beast. Loopy. Perseus. Rodin. Svelte. Twidget. why ambigendered? can't you tell the difference? |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to they) posted 1-Nov-2002 3:25am Santa's Little helper was the first i thought of too, which is why I didn't even bother to list it. Well, my votes on Isuldur, Lulu, or Streaker so far. |

| Cain | (reply to rhino3) posted 1-Nov-2002 7:56am I like the idea, but it might not necessarily be a grey dog so I don't want to incorporate the colour into the name. I really like deeogee. |

| monica_potter | posted 1-Nov-2002 9:50pm Hm... Dusty, or Smokey is nice. It depends what colour it is though. I've always liked the name Jewel, for a dog, but I dunno if it would apply to a Greyhound. |
| rhino3 | (reply to Cain) posted 1-Nov-2002 11:43pm I see what you mean. When do you get the dog? Do you pick one, or do you just take the next one "up for adoption"? That is a great thing you are doing. I only know one person who did that and that dog was wonderful. It was like he knew how lucky he was. I am glad you like that name. It is much more fun to say in person than in writing, isn't it? And I guess you could spell it a few different ways, too. Good luck to you! |
| autumnlight | (reply to monica_potter) posted 2-Nov-2002 6:20pm Smokey is the name of my cat. I don't know why it was chosen though. You end up shouting Smoooooookeeeeeeeey out the door. |
