| Biggles | posted 22-Oct-2002 7:00am Overall, helpful. But there is a lot of pickiness at times too. |
| Dino | posted 22-Oct-2002 7:32am There are a mix of people and a mix of emotions depending on how they feel at the time and what surveys have come before. |
| confetti | posted 22-Oct-2002 7:51am Variating depending on their mood. Which is to be expected. |
| confetti | (reply to Dino) posted 22-Oct-2002 7:52am Second survey today we've said practically the same thing, one after another. Spooky |
| Dino | (reply to confetti) posted 22-Oct-2002 8:07am What the hell time is it there in Costa Rica? I just spoke to Biggles by the way - on MSN messenger anyway. She's doing really well! Made bundles of friends and even taken up rowing. And yeah, sometimes it really is spooky, our answers. Great minds... |

| Enheduanna | posted 22-Oct-2002 10:30am I steer a wide berth around qualification. I find it to be intensely irritating most of the time. I stop by once in a very long while when someone mentions something going on in qual in an active survey and I get curious to see what they're talking about. It's also one reason why I don't create very many surveys. |
| Cain | posted 22-Oct-2002 11:19am I've not created many surveys myself, but when I have, I usually find their comments to be helpful. When I check through the advanced stats on other people's surveys, it annopys me when qualifiers pick out the fact that a similar survey has been done before. So what? New people are joining this all the time, it's nice to hear what they have to say on what might be considered an old topic too. |
| Zang | posted 22-Oct-2002 12:21pm As a frequent qualifier myself, I take umbrage at being painted with the same brush as all of those "Negative, overbearing, and nazi-like" qualifiers that tend to make up the rest of my lot! > |
| they | posted 22-Oct-2002 2:49pm I'll go with Polite, friendly, and helpful... OVERALL... but there are some bad ones.. |
| kaleb777 | posted 22-Oct-2002 5:16pm Polite, friendly, and helpful. Though I find some survey creators aggressive, ignorant and stubborn. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to southernyankee) posted 22-Oct-2002 5:21pm Maybe they wouldn't act like that if you actually read what they said and acted on it. If you're getting a lot of people saying "wees" that means they agree with previous comments and rather than repeating them all they say "wees" (what everyone else says). If you take note of the first person who made the comment and act on it, you won't get so many people saying wees. You'll get 'reasonable' and your survey will pass quickly. |
| confetti | (reply to Dino) posted 22-Oct-2002 5:50pm When I wrote that...it was about 5:30 AM. I am frankly not surprised about Claire...I knew that she was the type of person that would make her university grateful for having her. |
| dora | posted 22-Oct-2002 6:25pm Depends on the user. |
| dora | (reply to Biggles) posted 22-Oct-2002 6:25pm Hey! How are you? |
| harekrishnadasa | (reply to jekaba) posted 22-Oct-2002 8:59pm |
| southernyankee | (reply to kaleb777) posted 22-Oct-2002 10:46pm yes, but you're also forgeting that I am not on the internet 24/7 so it can take a while before I get to it and by then, there'be a single comment, and a crap load of wweeeeeeeeeeeezzzzesss. Aslo, lets face it, some of these people are complete idiots, or at least they act like it, they give a needs work for some bullcrap reason which really isn't a reason at all, then I refute them telling them why I did it this way, and then they change their minds, and oh get this, the very next comment, says, you guesed it, wees. I would be willing to put some $$ on it that at least some reasonably large portion of those people don't bother to read the my or other people's comments, they just see a cluster of comments of which none of them are marked old, so they just subit a weez. And yes this has happend to me before, I had 4 and 0, exept some of those people made some comment regarding the survey, you know giving the anwer before it actually qualified, and I replied to them, and it went back and forth, and then some idiot ended up giving in a weez and a needs work anyway. ANd you know what I really love, when people tell me fix your spelling and grammor w/out saying particluralr whats wrong with it. And finally my favorite, just after I have fixed it, people make other comments and yet some idiot still tells me to fix my spelling errors, even though there were none. |
| FXDL2K | posted 23-Oct-2002 12:01am guess i would have to say some of each. i can appreciate spelling, grammar, etc. advice and/or suggestions about the survey, but some of the surveys i do and will be doing have to do with marketing research for business or possible businesses. so while i appreciate the advice, sometimes the quals dont necessarily understand where i am trying to go and what results i am looking for. usually my options are very well thought out for my own needs, even though some quals may not see that. sometimes i am forced to add or change things that have an adverse effect on my survey that makes it not as useful to me but apparently more useful to others. sometimes my survey isnt my survey anymore. i have met some very nice and helpful people as well and some who mean well, but are perhaps a little too serious. thanks. |
| Dino | (reply to confetti) posted 23-Oct-2002 4:41am I think its probably refreshing for her to no longer be the brainiest girl in the school now! I said after Christmas I'll pop over one Saturday or Sunday and we'll do lunch - its only an hour away from me. Of course her being an Internet stranger I'll meet her in a public place in case she tries to kidnap me or something |
| Biggles | (reply to Dino) posted 23-Oct-2002 5:40am In case *I* try to kidnap *you*? Ha! |
| Biggles | (reply to dora) posted 23-Oct-2002 5:41am Supposed to be doing an essay..... |
| dora | (reply to Biggles) posted 23-Oct-2002 6:36am Do they give you a lot of work? |
| confetti | (reply to Dino) posted 23-Oct-2002 7:50am |
| Biggles | (reply to dora) posted 23-Oct-2002 11:05am Not really - one essay a week (*every* week). Two or three practicals with write-ups each week. Reading from all the lectures. The work would be fine if I didn't have the lectures, practicals and tutorials, or vice versa - it's fitting in *everything* that's tiring! I should probably be doing more work at the moment, but...well, it's *work*!!! |
| Biggles | (reply to confetti) posted 23-Oct-2002 11:07am I visited the Botanic Garden in Oxford yesterday - its the oldest one anywhere apparently. There's a big tree in one corner that's about 150 years old. It's a really amazing tree in a way that's hard to explain. We were told that it was a tree that inspired Tolkien when he was writing his books. They never said how it inspired him though which is disappointing. Do trees feature strongly in any of the books? |
| confetti | (reply to Biggles) posted 23-Oct-2002 4:04pm Yeah. All his woodland elves are madly in love with trees...and he even makes some 'come alive', called the Ents. You lucky, lucky thing! |
| Maarten | posted 23-Oct-2002 4:44pm Friendly, picky, nazi-like. |
| Biggles | (reply to confetti) posted 23-Oct-2002 4:56pm It's quite a nice tree |

| kaleb777 | (reply to southernyankee) posted 23-Oct-2002 9:05pm Would you feel better if they copied and pasted previous comments? What's the point if what you want to say has been said? I admit there is one person in particular who never makes his own comment and relies on what others say, but he's the minority. Anyone who votes on a survey and comments as if the survey has actually been released must be a newbie with no idea. I've never seen that happen. If you have spelling errors they show up when you first submit your survey. The next page will say "there seem to be some spelling mistakes....etc". That's when you fix them. Survey Central actually tells you where the spelling mistakes are. Qualifiers get frustrated with spelling mistakes because of that. There's no reason for spelling mistakes when you are told you have them as soon as you submit the survey. Perhaps you should read things more carefully too since you seem to be missing that stage of the creation process. |
| southernyankee | (reply to kaleb777) posted 23-Oct-2002 9:31pm yes i know, i can be lazy sometimes. but sometimes there still are no spelling errors and some idiot will still tell me "fix spelling errors" and off course the next couple of people probably won't see them either, but because one guy said it, they all too must agree. sounds a bit naziistic. i don't have a problem with "weez", i just have a problem with people who write weez without first making sure that there is a mistake and that they know what it is, rather than just blindly typing in weez. |
| jekaba | (reply to harekrishnadasa) posted 23-Oct-2002 11:36pm Why are you sending me links to african malawi sports? am i missing something? lol |
| mandy | posted 24-Oct-2002 1:28am all different types of people... |
| wolfchik9 | posted 24-Oct-2002 5:12am Helpful was my first thought. Qualifiers try to make surveys make sense and correct syntax, make them easy-to-read. |
| tyrangela | posted 24-Oct-2002 2:09pm In my experience w/ the qualifiers, I have found them to be helpful. Sometimes I think some of them can be way to picky, I have had to completely change a few of my surveys to get them qualified. I appreciate the suggestions on grammar and spelling and even some of the different ways to word things. However, sometimes I want to know a certain thing for a certain reason. I have not had anyone be mean or snotty to me but I have been irritated by some of the things they have said. When I first signed on to make my first survey, somewhere in the site I read something like, dont get frustrated by what the qualifiers say, dont take it personal, qualifiers can be picky and helpful at the same time. So I dont really let any of it get to me. |

| starrpickle | posted 6-Nov-2002 10:57am Whats a qualifier? who are they? what do they do? why? Have I been disqualified and don't even know it? Whats the meaning of life? Whose at my door? Why is my one toe longer than the rest? Who has all the answers and how do you get in touch with this entity? If a tree falls in the forest and there is no one around to hear it does it make a sound? |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to starrpickle) posted 7-Nov-2002 2:03am Does God exist if there is no such thing as experience? 'Qualifiers' here refers to the people who judge unqualified surveys as they are passed, revised, or deleted. |
