I don't need much fat.I like eggs a lot,and butter, but the very thought of a lot of oil or the fat in the meat (which I hardly eat.)is disgusting.I need a little fat, which I take from eggs and butter and milk,a little proteins, lots of eggs and the odd piece of raw meat and fish and poultry (Less than one time a week.Meat is like every two weeks for me.Eggs...well,that's another story.),an awful LOT of carbohydrates...sugar,pasta,bread,sweets... some vitamins...too little of them I guess. My diet is pretty balanced, but I should eat more vitamins, only there's a lot of vegetables I don't like... But the thing I hate the most is FAT food.I like a little fat,the amount necessary for living, and fry my eggs and all..but things that are too fat really make me vomit.Same thing with too much proteins. No fat at all is stupid, but too much fat is not only unhealthy,is disgusting.I don't know how you can eat it.My mom is a big fat fan,I feel sick everytime I look in her plate. She also eats animals entrails. |

I've been keeping a stock of canned congee on hand lately. It makes a good "appetiser". I tend to wait until I'm starving before I get it together to make a meal and by then I'm too impatient. A little bowl of congee takes the edge off. It is a lot different from what they serve in restaurants; sweet, lots of beans, peanuts, longans, lentils, peas...I used to keep it in the fridge, but then I discovered that I liked it better at room temperature. |
romkey | | (reply to Zang) posted 20-Oct-2002 2:32pm |

Zang | | (reply to romkey) posted 20-Oct-2002 3:07pm |
Well, like I said, it isn't like the restaurant style. It's almost like a completely different food. The only similarity is that it is mushy, made primarily out of rice, and very satisfying. |

Apples, grapes, oranges, broccoli, and zucchini. Can I add onions to the list? I LOVE grilled or sauted onions.
All of the above I just love. I like to make Zucchini Rattatoule. Saute the zucchini and onions until tender. Add a can or two of Italian style stewed tomatoes. Sprinkle in some Parmesan Cheese and heat through. YUM! |
| Glassa |
I never did like bacon (always tasted like sandpaper) and grits I just don't understand. I think whole milk would make me sick. The other stuff is ok though, but man I'd gain weight in a second if I ate it.
You don't like fruit? The fat-free stuff is not as bad as you think. And it's not for wimps either. |

It is sort of like porridge, made from rice. Chinese people eat it for breakfast. You can get it plain, or with chicken, mushrooms, meat, fish, vegetables, pig's blood, eggs, salted donut, giblets...all kinds of stuff.
The canned one I was talking about is sweet, and has mostly legumes and such... |

They use concentrated fruit juice for sweetness. It's fructose instead of glucose and is better for you, especially if you're diabetic. Walnuts are very bitter and tend to make my mouth saw, but I do enjoy them while eating cherry tomatos at the same time. |
| kaleb777 |
I eat very well, but it doesn't help with the metabolism. I eat eggs since they contain so much goodness I feel they are worth it. I ate 3 boiled eggs for breakfast yesterday and didn't feel hungry again for 10 hours. Not very fast my metabolism, although protein is low glycaemic. If I ate wheat I'd be hungry again in an hour. Cashews are great in stirfry. I've started putting almonds and pepitas (pumpkin seeds) in my italian pasta and meat dishes. The almonds stay chewy. I have a Queensland (macadamia) nut tree in the front yard and pig out every season. I keep telling myself it's 'good fat' |
Kristal_Rose | | (reply to kaleb777) posted 23-Oct-2002 9:35pm |
I see yogurt and nuts for breakfast as instant and afternoon processing, and avoid any two day processing like complex saturated fats. At the edge of hungry works for me. You can get by on half the food if you stop eating the moment you have that impulse that says 'I can get by now', and not wait for the blatant signal 'I'm full'. I make a rich desertish fruit 'pizza' with nuts, cranberries, dates, raisins, cream cheese, and a honey/clove tomato sauce.sounds good. |

I just eat things I see that I feel will be healthy. Low fat isn't always healthy. High carb diets will make you fat more than fatty foods, provided the fatty food is good fat like oils and nuts etc. Even cheese is a good supplier of essential nutrients, just eat it sparingly. |
| FXDL2K | | (reply to kaleb777) posted 24-Oct-2002 4:44pm |
kaleb you are lucky, a lot of people just eat anything. and you are very right that low fat isnt always healthy. people definitely need a certain amount of fat in the diet. you are right on the carbs, too. and they are so cheap i think its part of the reason poor people are overweight. well not the entire reason of course.
a long time ago in nursing, i found out that at night time, your liver takes the unsaturated fat you have ingested and turns it into cholesterol! i just think that is an interesting fact. also explains why docs prescribe lipitor (reduce cholesterol) and tell you to take it at night.
anyway, i bet you are nice and healthy. you sound very well rounded! (but not fat LOL) its great talking with you... |
