What kind of reaction would you have in this situation?

You are in a coffee shop, and there are 6 people at the table next to yours. You can hear what they are saying, and they are all engaged in monologues. There is no conversation going on. They are all talking about their own thing, but seem to be enjoying each other's company anyway.

I would probably think poorly of them. As long as I didn't have to listen to them I probably wouldn't think of them much at all.

I would think positively about them. It's a bunch of people who aren't afraid to be themselves, and they found friends who don't break their train of thought.

I'd probably be amused at how self-involved each of them was.

I'd probably think it was strange, but you know, whatever, if it makes them happy, cool.

My reaction would be negative, because once I had determined that all of these people were talking at once, it would probably be impossible for me to "tune them out". I can imagine that it would be pretty noisy. I would try to get out of there quickly.

I probably would just smile or something. It doesn't seem so strange to me--when my friends and I are in the harried midst of exam week and we arrive at school in the AM with not a drop of caffeine in our blood streams that's pretty much the usual for us * raspberry *

Mixed reactions between laughting my ass off while trying to contain myself and simontainiously thinking WTF!.

Are these people talking to themselves out loud or are they all cell phone freaks.

Then again, I might think they're comunicating telephaticly and are up to no good. Since the setting is a coffee shop, I am thinking Star Bucks, I am thinking some left-wing ploting conspiracy by some "cappacino-socialists" up to no good. I would sit there hopefuling that any minute now they will spontaniously flip the tables over and cause all sorts of riots while I would just sit there quitely observing and enjoying it from a safe distance on the sidelines, just sitting there sipping and enjoying my frozzen latte. * wink *

That's would be fun to try. Get together with buddies and create some kind of code. Then go out somewhere and talk in code. * laughing out loud *

I probably wouldn't react at all. I hear so many strange conversations on the bus that there isn't much any more that fazes me.

My reaction would be none of these. It would be "Weird". That's what my reaction would be. "How weird, how strange, what in the world?". Not positive or negative.

Pretty cool thought/idea.

I would probably go and join them because no-one listens to me anyway...so a few monologues would fit in nicely!!

I really don't give a crap about a bunch of self-involved shmucks. If I couldn't avoid hearing them (and it bothered me), I'd move to another table or leave the shop.

I'd be sitting there trying to figure out what was going on, but it wouldn't upset me or anything.

I hadn't looked at it that way. It would be more fun to eavesdrop on them than a bunch of people all talking about the same thing.
What I like doing is having more than one conversation at the same time, with different people. Or engagining in a conversation, but inserting my own off-topic thoughts.

Would wonder why they feel necessary to afflict innocent patrons with this non-sense.

OK, now there's an interesting reaction. What 'afflicting' are they doing? Unless they are doing it loudly, they aren't afflicting anyone. I can imagine people thinking it was dumb or nutty, but I can't imagine anyone being disturbed or annoyed by it. That's plain uptight.

As long as they're having a good time....Hopefully I would have better things to do than listen into their "conversation".

I'd be quite intrigued I expect. I'd want to listen to each of them for a while to work out what they were saying, the conversations people have with themselves are usually the most interesting conversations of all.
Good question survey creator.

Good. It means you think for yourself and don't have to be on any wavelength with anyone else to express yourself. More people should try it. It feels good, don't you think?
It feels good to just be able to talk, without being bound by the shifts in a conversation.

OK, I am still curious. Why would anyone have the kind of reaction meyoume had? Does anyone have any idea why people get that kind of "afflicted" feeling when people aren't deliberately trying to bother anyone?

Any ideas?
