| milktree | posted 16-Dec-1998 2:41pm Everyone should have a fire extinguisher in his/her car. |
| lisashea | posted 16-Dec-1998 2:59pm I checked no, because I don't right now, but I usually do, plus a first aid kit and battery cables. I do a lot of long distance and cross country driving for fun, so I like to be prepared. |
| reality | posted 16-Dec-1998 3:09pm but I probably ought to. |
| steve | posted 16-Dec-1998 3:13pm Good question, good answers. |
| hillbilly | posted 16-Dec-1998 3:16pm I have 5 cars, some I keep fire extingishers in and some I don't. I only keep them in cars I think might catch on fire. |
| Jody | posted 16-Dec-1998 3:19pm Can you keep fire extinguishers in cars that have vast internal temperature ranges. Where I live the temp can soar to over 100 degrees in the summer, and below zero in winter. Are extinguishers OK with that or will they explode or fizzle and not work or something? |
| daver | posted 16-Dec-1998 3:53pm And water, blanket, rope, flares, jumper cables, etc. |
| grmbrand | posted 16-Dec-1998 4:46pm When my car bursts into flame, I just try to drive it at the nearest conveniently located decorative public fountain or suburban swimming pool. |
| laurel | posted 16-Dec-1998 5:19pm I don't, but I keep meaning to buy a small one & put it in the truck. |
| jjg | posted 16-Dec-1998 5:20pm daver: don't forget the ether. |
| seth | posted 16-Dec-1998 5:20pm Typically in my car I have a jack and spare tire, a few quarters, a powerbar, local maps, a Spanish/English dictionary, a roll of duct tape, and a unicycle. |
| daver | posted 16-Dec-1998 6:12pm **jjg: I've got some ether in all my vehicles. In fact, a survey central participant accidentally dosed themselves with some once. (They stepped on the can without noticing it. I wondered why they were so exuberant.) |
| Sybal | posted 17-Dec-1998 1:17am On long trips.. a gas can just in case, a car phone that doesn't have a service but can be used in emergency collect situations for $1.95 per minute... I have a flashlight that I keep meaning to put in the car... tons of blankets are in the trunk... but NO FIRE eXtinguisher... but thanks for making me paranoid :) |
| bill | posted 17-Dec-1998 7:51am No, I don't know where I'd put it. In the back hatch area where it would clunk around and I'd never be able to reach if I was in need. Phi, this is wonderfully elegant survey. |
| lelle | posted 17-Dec-1998 9:43am bill: many cars have places you can mount one. (Probably most cars, though it may require more effort.) |
| bill | posted 17-Dec-1998 12:26pm ...but my car is sooo small! |
| pandora | posted 17-Dec-1998 1:42pm I'm interested in the results of this one... |
| lizzie | posted 17-Dec-1998 1:51pm No, but maybe I should. I have flares! Does that count? |
| josef | posted 18-Dec-1998 1:00am It's fun to squirt oncoming people with the fire extinguisher--especially bicyclists, they're really annoying. |
| hillbilly | posted 18-Dec-1998 6:55am In my fraternity we used to fill those large silver fire extinguishers with piss and spray people from other fraternities with it when they sang their songs about us as they marched by during their hellweek. Also on pledge initiation day come to think of it, or any other time. |
| milktree | posted 18-Dec-1998 7:03pm Lizzie: I think flares would be the opposite of a fire extinguisher, almost. |
| jefff | posted 20-Dec-1998 1:31pm Hey bill, mine's small too and I've got one. It's the size of a can of hair spray and it's in the glove. I think it cost about $15 at Pep Boys. |
| anonymous | posted 28-Dec-1998 9:22am I'm only a kid!!! |
| they | posted 28-Dec-1998 2:36pm never really thought about it.... |
| pandora | posted 28-Dec-1998 2:39pm I feel like I should buy one now, but truthfully, I'm too much of a tightwad to spend the 15 dollars! |
| anonymous | posted 2-Jan-1999 7:36pm I didn't know that they made them in "car sizes" |
| Gunner | posted 3-Jan-1999 10:11am Have plenty of smoke detectors and fire extinguisher in the house. do they count..haha |
| cheshirecat | posted 3-Jan-1999 4:37pm am i really going be able to put a fire out while driving |
| anonymous | posted 3-Jan-1999 4:46pm cheshirecat: Do you really want to be driving a burning car? |
| anonymous | posted 9-Jan-1999 9:51pm But only because I've been to lame to go get one of an appropriate size. |
| magbast | posted 9-Jan-1999 11:04pm anonymous...you mean "too" instead of "to".... |
| magbast | posted 9-Jan-1999 11:06pm sorry...just wanted to take a stab at being a grammar king...and maybe get my name in the hat for the star |
| magbast | posted 10-Jan-1999 10:56am i don't deserve this honor...english/grammar was, by far, my worst subject! |
| supplicant | posted 24-Feb-1999 7:57am I don't have a car, but I can't say I've ever heard of anyone who does do it. |
| mandy | posted 10-Apr-1999 8:40pm no |
| mandy | posted 1-Jul-1999 5:48pm Luckily , we didn't need one yesterday. I think I may get one now, though. |
