| Iseult | posted 26-Sep-2002 7:31am One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Yup, I have all ten fingers. |
| grmbrand | posted 26-Sep-2002 8:12am Ten. One of my uncle's is short part of a finger from a carpentry mistake, and I once met a woman with a small, underdeveloped extra finger on each hand. That was odd, to say the least. |
| Enheduanna | posted 26-Sep-2002 8:52am Ten. Or technically eight fingers and two thumbs. |
| jettles | posted 26-Sep-2002 8:59am ten |
| joachim | posted 26-Sep-2002 9:00am This is a good survey, although I suspect there will be a lot of pointless argument about the "thumb" issue. |
| joachim | (reply to grmbrand) posted 26-Sep-2002 9:01am I don't think it's as odd as most people think. Usually they are surgically removed shortly after birth but I think extra digits happen a lot more frequently than most other birth defects. My twin aunts were six-fingered and six-toed. |
| anoddoblivion | posted 26-Sep-2002 9:39am Ten |
| TeddyMiller | posted 26-Sep-2002 11:14am Eight, because a thumb isn't a finger? |
| LindaH | posted 26-Sep-2002 11:47am How many fingers am I holding up? |
| Maarten | posted 26-Sep-2002 12:08pm 11 of course, like all Europeans. |
| bandit1cat | posted 26-Sep-2002 12:37pm The answer would depend on whether you count thumbs as fingers. |
| Cain | posted 26-Sep-2002 12:51pm Do thumbs count as fingers? |
| Zang | (reply to Maarten) posted 26-Sep-2002 1:10pm Gee, I thought you guys were on the metric system... |
| grmbrand | (reply to joachim) posted 26-Sep-2002 1:18pm Fair enough; I'd simply never seen it before. Also, this is a grown woman. Either she takes the extra (nonfunctional) digits as a gift from G-d or she just hasn't got the money, time, or interest to do anything about them... |
| Maarten | (reply to Zang) posted 26-Sep-2002 1:27pm Ha! That's exactly what we want you to believe! |
| msgman | posted 26-Sep-2002 1:40pm Eight. Plus two thumbs. |
| Glassa | posted 26-Sep-2002 2:02pm Technically, 8 fingers and two thumbs. |
| romkey | (reply to Maarten) posted 26-Sep-2002 2:12pm that is not a finger!! |
| romkey | (reply to joachim) posted 26-Sep-2002 2:12pm was that before or after they were separated? |

| juliw | (reply to dora) posted 26-Sep-2002 6:16pm The ones on your feet are called toes, dear. |
| dora | (reply to juliw) posted 26-Sep-2002 6:37pm Yeah,okay! They look like fingers,honey! |
| juliw | (reply to dora) posted 26-Sep-2002 6:40pm |

| darkshadowsseeker | posted 26-Sep-2002 10:48pm Two thumbs and eight fingers. |
| Amanda | posted 27-Sep-2002 1:37am I refuse to count my fingers for a survey. That would be too time consuming. Ask me when I'm in a better mood and I might do it! |
| Irene007 | posted 27-Sep-2002 2:07am Just ten (considering that my thumbs are digits also). Sorry... Looking for mutants? |
| Irene007 | (reply to Amanda) posted 27-Sep-2002 2:14am Hey! What's up Hon? Did you have a good trip? (Don't answer here if you don't want, give me a couple of days and I will be back on my favorite e-mail site - I have to pay with a credit card now, so I've not used e-mail too much recently. I don't like Eudora with Sympatico [our local telephone company] and an old, new version of my first e-mail...) |
| Hans | posted 27-Sep-2002 2:28am eleven |
| Biggles | posted 27-Sep-2002 8:48am Eight. Thumbs don't count do they? We used to play that game at school - I'm never sure if the usual reasoning was right. |
| Amanda | (reply to Irene007) posted 27-Sep-2002 12:30pm I haven't gone on my trip, yet. We're leaving Sunday morning and coming back on Thursday or Friday. |
| Zang | (reply to Maarten) posted 27-Sep-2002 12:48pm I'VE BEEN DUPED!!! |
| juliw | (reply to dora) posted 27-Sep-2002 6:05pm OK, I won't! |
| PURRincess | posted 28-Sep-2002 7:48am What kind of a question is that? |
| PURRincess | (reply to joachim) posted 28-Sep-2002 7:49am I agree with the whole thumb thing |
| PURRincess | (reply to joachim) posted 28-Sep-2002 7:50am Never mind, Biggles already started on it. |
| they | posted 28-Sep-2002 9:23am Ten.. but sometimes I count them to be sure |
| they | (reply to grmbrand) posted 28-Sep-2002 9:28am When I lived in hillbillyville, NC there were lots of deformities like that around. There was one man who had fingers without knuckles.. the fingernails were where the knuckles should be.. the weird thing was that his daughter's fingers were the same way. Also, at our pediatrician's office, there were two nurses who were twins, one of them had severely deformed hands. Growing up we had a our neighbor had an aunt that would visit from time to time that did not have arms.. her hands grew right out of her shoulders.. her husband(yes, she had one) had to wipe her ass for her. |
| mandy | (reply to they) posted 28-Sep-2002 2:52pm hillbillyville, NC! HA! I mean...dang. I hang out in an NC chatroom quite a bit because I have a very close friend who "unfortunately" lives there. I have seen and heard some things I never would have believed. One fella looked at my profile pic and messaged me, and I quote: "dang girl your sure purty, but why so melon collie?" |

| grmbrand | (reply to they) posted 30-Sep-2002 8:13am The last case you describe sounds like a thalidomide-related defect: http://www.fda.gov/cder/news/thalidomide.htm |
| monica_potter | posted 1-Oct-2002 8:31am Umm...yeah...I have ten. May I ask what the point of this survey was? Sure, some people may be deformed, or may have lost a few, but REALLY. |
| they | (reply to grmbrand) posted 1-Oct-2002 9:48am Thanks for the link.. That is really interesting and you're probably right. The woman was probably born in the 50's since she was around my mom's age. |
