If you have a tattoo, why did you have it done?

I am thinking of getting one done, but fear that I may be too old for something that appears to be focused towards the younger generations (I am age 40).

I liked to think of my body as an advertisement of my opinions at the time. Unfortunately, shortly after I got the two tattoos (one on each arm, around the same time), I lost interest in the rock group and became a bigger fan of another rock group, but never did get any other tattoos. Now I would rather wear T-shirts advertising my opinions!

I'm not really sure why I got my tattoo. I guess I just wanted one. I decided on the design for a butterfly for two reasons. 1)I've always liked butterflies 2)They represent freedom, change, and peace to me

What a caterpillar calls death for a butterfly is just the beginning!
The original quote was different, but I can't rememeber...

I wish you could remember the original quote. That sounds like something I would say.

calls butterfly." (Richard Bach)

That's really awesome. I'm going to write it down in my notebook full of quotes. I read them when I'm feeling down or if I bored and stuff like that.

Okay. I'm going to go smoke, then go to bed. I've got to get up early and go to my oldest niece's soccer game in the morning. They are playing a tournament. They tied one game and won 2 games today, so they go back tomorrow to play. If the win in the morning, they'll play in the championship tomorrow afternoon!!!! She'd kill me if I over-slept and missed her game. I go to all of them. My younger niece plays soccer, too. So, I have to juggle between to the, to make sure I get to watch both of them every Saturday. Most of them time they play on fields that are within walking distance from each other and play at different times. Not today, though. I had to miss my oldest niece's game, so I could watch the younger one play.

I'm running my mouth AGAIN! You can tell me to shut-up at anytime now!!! * laughing out loud * * laughing out loud *

I'd wanted one for a long time, but I hadn't thought of a design that I really wanted. When I finally figured out the perfect tattoo for myself, I got it.

I always wanted tattoos, all my life.
My parents said no.
My husband said no.
When I left my husband, my new SO and I went together and got each other's names tattooed on our breasts. It was an amazing experience and created in us an urge to be tattooed more and more...it snowballs!!!!!! We each have 4 now. 2 of ours match.

Well, like I said before, I don't have a tattoo, but I do have a marking on my left arm (outside of bicep) where I cut a girl's name in a few years ago. We were in love, it seemed like the thing to do. No, it WAS the thing to do, * smile * . Periodically I go over it with a razor because it was so fine the first time that it heals very well within about a year. Some day when I am older I will probably add a few other names that belong there, and when I'm REALLY old I'll go over them all in India Ink or a brilliant tattooing ink so that they won't fade after I die. In the mean-time the one is visible enough that if I want to show someone I can, but invisible enough that no one would ever notice without me telling them. I'd like to keep the situation as such until at least after I've been married for a while. I can see why it would make a new girl unhappy to have an old girls name on my arm. It's almost eerie I suspect, like I haven't moved past that relationship, and I'm saying, no, I haven't. I don't ever intend to either. There's no such thing as 'unloving' someone, IMO. There are a couple other lovers I'll never forget, and a handful other friends. Love is something that needs to stick with the body after death--it is of vast importance. It is much more important than anything else. Much more important than everything else.

Friends are fine to be released, eventually, no matter how good, we part paths some day. We shake hands, and say, 'It's been well travelling with you'.

However, with a lover, we say

"It is for the sole purpose of travelling with you, that I have even bothered with the journey."

Reasons why I havn't gotten a tattoo. It seems to me that the only people getting tattoos are cool, fashionable, sexy people. I don't feel like that and I don't want to get a tattoo and look like mutton dressed as lamb. And I worry about the future too - see previous tattoo survey.

The first one was just to piss off my parents more than anything. It had the desired effect. The second was a part of my love affair with dragons and everything they mean to me.

While I don't personally have a tattoo, I think this survey should have been multiple pick. A person could have a multitude of reasons for choosing to get inked.

I am too lazy to get a tattoo. It takes me a long time to convince myself that I want to do something and by the time I do, I'm not interested in it any more and I don't do it. That's why I never got my ear pierced, or any stuff like that.
