Turkey? No, but seriously, aside from my own country which sounds sweet for other reasons, I like the name Canada or the Pacific Is country of Tuvalu pronounced Too-va-loo |

Aruba is a pretty name, but it is not a country. |
| kaleb777 | | (reply to dora) posted 21-Sep-2002 3:21pm |
Why is it a stupid question? Don't you think some names are more beautiful than others? There's nothing stupid at all about this question. |

Is Coast of Ivory (Cote d'Ivoire) a country? It hardly seems possible. I imagine quiet ships approaching it on a sapphire-hemmed sea, an ancient and forgotten land out of a myth full of beauty, lore, treasure, secrets and mischief |

Terrific and original question. I love it when a survey's so good, it makes me pause and smile with anticipating how much pleasure I'll get out of delving into my mind, soul and psyche to answer it even before I click on the link. |

I remembered another one - Alba. That's how you say Scotland in Gaelic. It sound really nice... albe is also 'dawn' in Italian, I daresay. |
| dora | | (reply to Iseult) posted 21-Sep-2002 11:49pm |
Yes,it is!! In Virgil Eneid Italy is called Esperia, which means the Land of the West, because compared to Greece it was! That's a beautiful name too!

I was listening to Andrea Bocelli the other night, and I found out that I understand most of the things he's saying in Italian. What part of Italy do you live in? |

Cote d'Ivorie recently turned into a huge war zone and the French and US governments are sending special forces troops in to rescue their citizens. I guess there's a bunch of American children at a school there for some reason. As in many African nations, the beautiful and tranquil name belies the reality of life in the country. |
