| darkshadowsseeker | posted 12-Sep-2002 7:33pm John Wayne portraying Genghis Khan in The Conqueror. You just want to go up and slap a cowboy hat on the man's head. He makes no effort whatsoever to affect an appropriate accent and looks as about as much as Genghis Khan as Michael Jackson does! |

| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Frostbrand) posted 12-Sep-2002 8:21pm One potential movie miscast that never came to be, but was seriously considered for awhile was Sandra Bullock playing Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. As of now, they are still looking for the right actress, but thankfully Sandra Bullock is no longer in the running. She was so wrong for the role in so many ways. BTW-What did MJ play Poe in? I must have missed that gem...lucky me! |

| teatree | (reply to confetti) posted 12-Sep-2002 9:37pm I haven't seen the movie, but I thought Matthew Lilliard looked and sounded a lot like Shaggy. But what was with Fred's shirt. Fred always wears a cravat in the cartoons and his character certainly doesn't in the movie. I also thought Freddie Prinze, Jr. looked awful as a blonde! |
| mikehunt696 | posted 12-Sep-2002 9:44pm Mariah Carey or Britney Spears in ANY MOVIE! Mariah can at least sing, but neither she nor Britney have a speck of acting skills and would be miscast in any future movies. The only tolerable thing I've seen Britney in was the 3rd Austin Powers movie, but she wasn't acting, but playing herself. |
| Matt | (reply to teatree) posted 12-Sep-2002 11:22pm I never knew it was actually a movie! I was sure they'd just made it up in "The Simpsons"! Hmmmm, I'm going to start my search for it |
| LuridHope | posted 12-Sep-2002 11:37pm Anyone other than Michael Keaton as Batman. "Batman and Robin" and "Batman Forever" were like some kind of horrible actor soup that got spilled under the stove and left there too long. Not having a script or plot didn't help either. I only watched about 15 minutes of them. |

| Frostbrand | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 12-Sep-2002 11:52pm It's still in pre-production, meaning they have a script and an actor, but no studio, no budget adn (maybe) no director. To try and explain this better, both X-Men and Spider-Man had been languishing in pre-pro hell since 1982! |
| spidertea | posted 13-Sep-2002 12:05am Recently- Sandra Bullock in "Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood." It just seemed so contrived. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Frostbrand) posted 13-Sep-2002 4:49am If we're lucky it'll never be made. I know Rob Zombie's "House of a 1,000 Corpses" is languishing on a shelf somewhere, but with a title like that I hope it never gets released! Another couple of movies that have been sitting around in pre-production Hell are "Jason vs Freddy" (which I understand made be made in the very near future) and the long-languishing "Alien vs Predator". |

Rob is the shiz-nit, and I've been waiting for House of 1,000 Corpses since I first saw the trailer, back in 2000! As for Freddy vs. jason, I'm sad to say it's in production now, with Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child set to co-star. |
| Frostbrand | (reply to southernyankee) posted 13-Sep-2002 4:26pm Playing villains certainly didn't hurt Anthony Hopkins or Denzel Washington or Joan Allen (she got an Emmy nod for her first ever non-good guy role. I hesitiate to say bad since the character was more misguided and selfish than evil and meglamonaical). Did you know that Morgan Freeman actually auditioned for the part of Hannibal lecter in Silence of the Lambs? He thinks it was a case of unintentional racism. The studio loved his audition but was so uptight about being accused of racism by the Militants (the people that ruin it for the rest of us liberals, fudging jerks) that for the longest no studio would let ANY blakc actor play a lead villain. Wesley Snipes helped break that in Demolition Man, and Michael Clarke Duncan is going to play Kingpin (in the comics he's a fat white guy) in the upcoming Daredevil movie. |
| Iseult | (reply to mandy) posted 13-Sep-2002 4:44pm You should. It was kind of crappy, but vampires are far too sexy to be missed. And music was good. I got the soundtrack. |
| mandy | (reply to Frostbrand) posted 13-Sep-2002 4:51pm I love Rob Zombie! |
| southernyankee | (reply to Frostbrand) posted 13-Sep-2002 7:05pm I don't normally keep up with the media and whose who in acting, so I cant say. I did find that to be interesing for a while though, the villian in Demolition Man being black chased around by Sylverer Stalone. Also, escape from LA, another black villain, and some episode of Sea Quest, where in the end a black villian was crusing around the bottom of the ocean floor. Hey, I've seen thousands movies where the hero's black and the villan white, and good many when they're both of the same race, so why the fudge not. We gotta even things up a bit. Its only a matter of time before we hear on the news, a bunch of black CEO's arrested for a coorporate scandal. Now thats sounds more like geninue equality to me, to see more black bussinessmen succeding and getting in the news. When Martha Stewart got indided, it felt kindda good watching a woman doing a "man's scandal" In my sociology book, it even points out that crime among women is going up with near proportion to the increasing success by women in all fields. I think we had a survey on that issue a while back. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Frostbrand) posted 13-Sep-2002 9:26pm I love Rob Zombie's music, but I have serious doubts about the movie. If Destiny's Child keeps this up then eventually all the group will end up in movies. I doubt Kelly will top Beyonce's role as Foxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers 3. |
| Frostbrand | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 14-Sep-2002 12:02am Speaking of Destiny's Child, am I the only one who wants to see all those jilted former members get together and cut an album of their own? I'd buy that in a heartbeat! |

| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Frostbrand) posted 14-Sep-2002 1:01am If you read the book the Bone Collector by Jeffrey Deaver you would notice that Lincoln Rhyme is white, but the studios weren't afraid to let Denzel Washington portray him. The same goes for The Shawshank Redemption. In the novella it's obvious that the character Red is white (he has red hair and freckles hence the nickname Red), yet Morgan Freeman portrayed him. I can't frankly see Morgan Freeman playing Hannibal. If you've read the Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs or Hannibal you would see that he doesn't fit the part, and not because of anything to do with skin color. He doesn't have the type of creepy, quiet intensity that Anthony Hopkins has that was so very necessary for the role of Hannibal and I don't think I would have been frightened in the least by Morgan Freeman, especially after all the other roles I've seen. He would be as believable as Hannibal as Danny Glover was as the serial killer in Switchback and that was not at all! Some people just are not meant to play villians. I also felt that Julianne Moore was woefully miscast as Clarice Starling in Hannibal. She played the character as frightened and far too jumpy, not with the bravado and spirit that Jodie Foster gave the role. I was also disappointed in Ridley Scott's direction of Hannibal. Instead of creating a suspenseful drama as was done in Silence of the Lambs by Jonathan Demme, he turned it into a gore fest! Paul Verhoven might as well directed it! > |
| lily333 | posted 14-Sep-2002 10:14am Keanu Reeves should not play the part of any thing except a very good looking mute. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to lily333) posted 14-Sep-2002 12:18pm I find he's alright when he's playing a idiot as he did in the Bill & Ted movies, but anything more serious beyond that he should hang it up. |
| mandy | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 14-Sep-2002 3:14pm I loved him in The Matrix. He was perfect as Neo just because he always pretty much looked like a deer caught in headlights. He stumbled through looking totally confused and wide eyed about everything happening to him. He plays dumb, confused, blindsided, slack jawed and vapid very well! and he's so easy on the eyes......... |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to mandy) posted 14-Sep-2002 3:23pm That's true! He can play that in his sleep! |

| wolfchik9 | posted 18-Sep-2002 9:30pm Julianne Moore instead of Jodie Foster as Clarice in Hannibal |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to wolfchik9) posted 19-Sep-2002 4:45am That was such bad miscasting. She was totally wrong for the role. I also felt that the movie would have been better if Jonathan Demme, who directed "Silence of the Lambs," had been at the helm. I don't dislike Ridley Scott as a director, but he does have a tendency to turn movies into gore-fests. "Silence of the Lambs" was a very scary, effective psychological thriller with Hannibal Lecter totally creeping out the audience. In "Hannibal", Hannibal Lecter was not in the least scary and changing the ending and leaving out a key character (Mason Verger's sister-who in the book kills Mason by shoving an electric eel in his mouth) totally ruined the movie. The book's ending is much more effective. I also thought that Julianne Moore played Clarice in a far too timid, emotional manner. Clarice is anything but timid and overly-emotional. |
| Cain | posted 19-Sep-2002 10:33am I couldn't think of any of my own, but Wolfchik gave the best example I think. Julianne Moore was not a good Clarice. |

| Bibliophile | (reply to lily333) posted 22-Sep-2002 11:43pm Did you ever see Keanu in Much Ado About Nothing? It is actually a good film, but he's totally miscast. It was the first time I ever saw him play anything besides a doofy California guy (the Bill & Ted movies, Speed) and I was shocked to realize he actually talks like that. I had thought it was an act, but he sounds the same even in Shakespeare. Can't complain about his looks, though. |
| lily333 | (reply to Bibliophile) posted 23-Sep-2002 4:56pm I never saw that movie. The only movie I really didn't mind him in was Speed (only the first one). And I have never complained about his looks. |

| joachim | posted 27-Sep-2002 6:07pm How about Vin Diesel in XXX? I mean, Vin Diesel is great, and XXX was great but what the two had to do with each other is just completely beyond me. Worst kissing scene ever, worst curly alpaca-fur coat over nothing more than a pair of DVDs ever and some of the longest lines (up to 12 words) that Diesel has ever voiced. It just didn't work for me. |
| joachim | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 27-Sep-2002 6:15pm I think they should get someone bulkier to play Superman. I want an angry Superman. |

| darkshadowsseeker | posted 30-Sep-2002 2:37am Another bad case of miscasting would be Kevin Costner as Robin Hood in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Hello...Robin Hood is British! Costner didn't even attempt to cultivate an accent for the movie. |
| Biggles | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 30-Sep-2002 12:15pm Half of the cast of that film were American - Kevin Costner, Christian Slater, and several others. At least it had Alan Rickman and Sean Connery. Oh and the boy is British and there was a woman without a speaking part who had her rings stolen in a carriage, she's British...... Have you ever seen the British version of Robin Hood that was released at the same time? I don't think it ever made it into the pictures here even though a lot of people predicted it would do better. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Biggles) posted 30-Sep-2002 8:00pm I don't think I've seen the British version of Robin Hood. Granted some of the other cast was American, but Costner had the lead role and I think a better actor could have been found. |
| Biggles | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 1-Oct-2002 10:09am Oh yes! There's one line in that film that I hate more than any other. Costner says something along the lines of "Don't be afraid, come down from that tree" and he just wastes the line, he just says it flatly as though he's really sick of the whole film. How could he be when he was surrounded by that amazing scenery? Hadrian's Wall which dips and dives over a whole host of small hills around there. What a waste! |
