Pretty much, and it's most from my dad. Emerson, Lake, & Palmer, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Simon and Garfunkle. From the time we lived on Cape Breton, my mother caught up on the Celtic music. That's how I started liking it, from her. Stuff like Natalie MacMaster, Maire Brennan, and bunch of otehr groups and singers I cannot spell because all of theri names are in Gaelic.

Not in the least. I don't know what my biological parents listened to, but my adoptive parents (grandparents) didn't listen to any kind of music that influenced me in the least. My grandmother listened to Gospel music and my step-grandfather didn't care to listen to music.

Very little. This is a good survey by the way! They -- at least my mom; I don't think my dad was that much of a music fan, bought 78 RPMs of "crooners" like Bing Crosby and some other male ballad singers whose names I can't recall. I remember one song I really loved was an old Spanish ballad called "La Golondrina" (I think that means "the swallow" -- correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.) Otherwise I didn't care much for their crooners. They also tended to buy a few country tunes, one of which was a favorite when I was a kid, called "Wabash Cannon Ball." It was by some famous male country singer but I'm not sure of his name now (possibly Hank Williams?). That was it -- except when I was about 7 or so my mom met some people from Hawaii. The woman was into hula dance and had some 78 RPMs, some "touristy"-type Hawaiian songs, but some ancient Hawaiian chant-songs, which latter I fell immediately in love with and still like to this day -- these are primitive, percussion, with chanting. My mom always liked to play the organ and had one. She would sing pop tunes of the day (50s). My love for certain World music other than Hawaiian (Tex-Mex, Brazilian, African, etc.) plus rock, R&B, dance music, and folk blues I got solely on my own.

I think growing up my parents influenced my taste of music a lot. Because of them I love oldies and classic rock n' roll. I remember looking at my parents cassettes with a friend when I was about 9 and the friend saying "Wow, your parents like cool music. I was pretty proud. I think my taste has definitely developed independently from them though, and they really don't understand my love of country or hip-hop. I like lots of different styles of music, and my parents didn't necessarily introduce them to all of them.

Quite a lot I would say. Initially, the only music I heard was what my parents listened to. I don't think that I really listened to much of anything that my parents didn't enjoy or approve of until I was about ten or so.

That was followed by a period of time in which I was influenced negatively by my parent's tastes. If they liked it, I hated it. If they hated it, I would look for a reason to like it.

I think that by the time I was 15, I was influencing my parent's tastes in music a lot more than they were influencing mine. By the time I moved out on my own, I had my mother playing Tangerine Dream and Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark for the bridge club! * grin *

When I was in my early 20s I really started grooving on stuff like Frank Sinatra. That probably wouldn't have happened if it wasn't something that my folks had kicking around the house when I was growing up.

My Dad has influenced my music taste a lot. When I was growing up I was exposed to a lot of classic rock. I still love it to this day. My Dad listened to (and still does) Lynard, Three Dog Night, Simon and Garfunkle, ZZ Top, and stuff like that. Since that was pretty much all I was exposed to for a long time, that's what I started to like. My Dad also has always had a thing for Patsy Cline. I heard a lot of her music when I was younger. I loved it then, but I don't like it that much now. My Mom listened to classic rock, too, but she also listened to country and gospel music. I guess she's where I get my love of country music from. YES, I like country music. For a long time, I was ashamed of my love for country music. I would actually hide my country cassettes and cds when I knew my friends were coming over. But, now I don't care what other people think. Now, I pretty much like all music, though.

Not at all, with the exception that the nursery songs I prefer are those that were sung to me, and I did latch onto a couple of my parents albums: Peer Gynt, Paint your Wagon soundtrack, Man of La Mancha soundtrack. They were conservative listeners, even for their generation. Actually i guess my step dad must have left quite an impression handing down a ventures surf album, and a krla 21 hits with tracks like 'Hang on Sloopy', 'Solitary Man', and 'Leader of the Pack'. Oh, he listened to folk/traditional from exotic asian cultures, which I do a bit of too. So I guess my gone step-dad was an influence, but not my mom who doesn't have much of a musical ear for the elaborate/ecclectic things I find.

My dad influenced me most. He had flawless taste...he had Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Leonard Cohen, Fleetwood Mac and Bob Marley in his top five.

My mom and I have a passionate love affair for motown and are currently wasting a lot of internet time with that thing, KAzaA? KazaH? KaZaH? (which may just be the first real reason to get a computer) making a huge list of songs we want to download. It's a really weird and garbled list. Everything from Massive Attack's "Teardrop" to Otis Redding's "Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay" to Cake's "You're Never There" to Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust" to the Strokes' "In Her Prime" to Bob Dylan's "She Belongs To Me" to Coldplay's "Green Eyes"... * smile *

my parents had a fairly progressive album collection for the '60's so i listened to what they had and memorized all the words to their albums and then as i grew up, they were influential in that they allowed me and encouraged me to listen to what i found appealing and interesting. they weren't at all censoring.

Probably quite a lot. I mean my record collection and my Mums are somewhat different but she was definately a major influence. She got me turned to Led Zepplin and David Bowie and as influences in Music she left her mark. My favourite club plays indie and rock based music from the 70's and 80's. I in turn got her into The Cure and such like.

Ha. I have no desire to go to the Philipines, except maybe for sex. Hear they have a lot of young prostitutes. How about Tahiti?

I was serious about the animals. I feed over 40 cats in my area, many loving, beautiful creatures in need of homes. Too many cats and dogs are put down because no one wants them. I spend my own money getting the wild kitties fixed and vaccinated. That's what I was referring to. Hmmm, I would like to be put in a home for animals. Would be better than dealing with human animals all day.

Yes, modern rock is definitely stupid. I don't really little of it, like Distrubed, System of the Down, Slipknot,... and the rest is just as good as Britney Spears. Like that new girl, Avril Lavigne. She has average looks, not so special voice, her songs are boring. What's the deal with that?
I don't listen to old rock that much (the Doors, Deep Purple, Rolling Stones) because I don't really like it, but I don't deny that the music they made was of a good quality.

Classical musicians were the pop stars of their times. That's why modern classical music it's so boring and not melodic, because composers think they are "classical" musicians instead of simply musicians.Mozart,Bach,Chopin were pop music of their time.
I agree that the bad pop music (Britney and co.)will die,but so did "classical" bad music.I don' think that, don't know, the Beatles will disappear from the people taste.

I mean,I'm 23 and my parents music is 1960's music I guess...sure they kept listening in the 1980's too...so I guess you could say 1980's music is their music too.

My parents, Dad especially, influenced my music tastes. My Dad always seems to be listening to the radio, but he also loves alot of 70's, 80's music and played it countless, countless times on full blast. So whenever I hear one of those songs on the radio I turn it up a bit cos they're actually pretty good songs.

They listened to a lot of classical music, which I'm not hugely into yet. But they also listened to the Beatles and stuff like that. My two brothers are much older than me (20 years for one of them) and I think they influenced my musical tastes a lot more than my parents did. When I was a baby, they were listening to exactly the music that I listened to in high school.

They used to play really crap stuff like grinspoon, beck and Red Hot Chilli Peppers all the time and they kept repeating some of the songs. That is why I started listening to heavier stuff (grunge) and then I moved on to death-metal
