| Dino | posted 19-Aug-2002 8:35am Lots of things really. It depends on the day. Sometimes I walk around in complete amazment and people and the lives they live - good or bad. Sometimes I operate on auto-pilot and everything I see, hear and read is met with cold disdain. So I guess I amaze myself that someone so essentially privelaged can be so screwed up and not 'get life' and what appears to be basic social and personality attributes. This weekend I have been amazed (sadly) that two ten year old girls who have been missing for two weeks have been found in shallow graves and two of their school workers (classroom assistant and caretaker) have been held over for questioning. I'm amazed that they only just appeared on TV joining in the appeal for their return. I'm amazed that the spot they were found also was the spot where about 5 or so other children have been found sexually abused and murdered or attacked, abducted or whatever. I'm amazed and stunned and shocked - but most of all I am saddened by lots of things more than I am amazed by things. |

| msgman | (reply to Dino) posted 19-Aug-2002 12:36pm The place where they found those girls is close to where I grew up. We used to play out there in the fields when I was a kid. The town they were abducted from (Soham) is just down the road from where I lived until a couple of months ago, and I've still got friends there. It's really weird seeing places that I know well on TV, especially in those circumstances. In fact, all the locations of events there relating to the kidnapped girls are places that I know well. The place where they found the girls isn't quite as bad a murder spot as you make it sound. There was a small girl murdered and dumped not far away from there, many years ago, and a boy was killed and dumped a few miles away in the other direction. But those are the only other incidents in the area - it's not like it's the child-killers' favourite dumping ground! |

| joachim | posted 4-Oct-2002 6:26pm I'm amazed by basically everything. Perhaps the thing that most frequently amazes me is how little it takes to make a person happy. A kind word, a sunset, a few chords of music. How is it that so many of us are so unhappy when we're so easy to please? |
