5'10" The advanced stats on this are really funny! There were actually people demanding fractions of inches! Who expresses their height in fractions of inches? Really insecure short people? I've never heard of such a thing...

Don't you think that adding half inches only draws attention to the fact? I recently dated a woman who was 4'11". We met via one of those Internet dating services. I knew her height before I met her, but was nonetheless surprised upon walking into a cafe and seeing her sitting there, feet not even reaching the ground...I think if it had said 4'11&1/2" it probably would have gotten my attention. * wink *

No, I don't. I think short people like dora and myself should fight for every partial inch we can get our hands on! Put yourself in our shoes for a moment. I was second shortest female in my entire high school graduating class. The only female shorter than me was a young women who had dwarfism and was 3 ft 4 inches tall.

I don't know, I just think that height is a silly thing to be obsessed over. It is so irrelevant. I mean, obviously I notice if someone is unusually tall or short, but beyond that, it really means nothing to me. I wound up dating that woman for several months, and beyond the initial shock of finding out that 4'11" = feet don't touch the ground when seated, it wasn't even remotely a concern.
darkshadowsseeker
(reply to Zang) posted 22-Jul-2002 9:31pm
You're not short so it wouldn't be a concern of you. I'm the shortest person in my family as I stopped growing at age 13 from a then undiagnosed underactive thyroid condition. By the time it was diagnosed the damage had been done. I didn't get my full growth and my hair is so thin that you can see my see my scalp. The quack doctor we were saying kept blaming it on the shampoo I was using. When I changed doctors and described my symptoms to her, she immediately had tests run on my thyroid. I've been on medication for it ever since.

That's exactly 4ft11 and 1/2.It's easier when you use metric. If the purpose of the SC is to ask our height and I can't tell my height...it sucks.

Are there other short people in your immediate family or are you the only one? I do know what you mean by being ignored at businesses. This has happened to me more times then I'd care to remember and then the clerk or whomever will say, "Oh, I didn't see you" or some such crap. I'm short, but I'm NOT that short that you can't see me over the average counter in a business! * frown *

My parents are short, but at least my father was only slightly under average when he was young (he is 5ft6.5.For his age and the country he was born in,Italy,it's okay.).My grandparents were of average or above average height.
My mother says that my short height could be caused by my refuse of drinking milk when I was a little girl (not a baby,I started having this problem at 3 or 4)and some other digestive condition.I must investigate, but going to doctors and hospitals and stuff bothers me a lot.

BTW-did you hear about the problems that have been occurring with some WebTV systems dialing up 911? It's a good thing you got rid of WebTV when you did. Some people were getting the police showing up at their home. Apparently the user isn't aware the device is dialing up 911. Here's a link if you would like to know more: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/scitech/TechTV/techtv_911virus020723.html
