How long can a survey live?

Ok, for the record, to see how long a survey can go on being active.

Ok, no rules. Just say whatever is on your mind to anyone you wish. And if you get tired of this survey, then just stop commenting on it.

Oh, this isn't a question.
"Would you let your son wear a dress to his first day of kindergarten?" lasted quite a long time, but has finally died. Too bad, I thought of it as a sort of a landmark for new users to visit.
Ho hum. I think I thought of this survey recently, but I don't see much point in it.

Ohhhhhhh! I'm sorry! *frown*
But yeah I know what you mean. But even more than that! I know HOW it FEELS. I know how YOU FEEL. Sometimes having a survey in qual can be brutal!*frown* HUH??

Sometimes you think to yourself,"Hummm I "THINK" this is a good survey,it should pass.....no problem." 24 hours?? A drop in the bucket! HA!! NOT SO! You go back there over & over & over again to correct all your so called mistakes. You know? Like dotting your I's & crossing your t's? Adding here, subtracting there. Now it's been what? 3or 4 day? & it's still in qual. You tell yourself, "YES! Maybe NOW it'll pass. It's only got an hour to go! YES! YES! YES!" THEN, someone(not pointing any finger or anything, just stating fact) finds an itty bitty mistake & the clock starts all over again.

Many times have I wanted to just delete my dang survey, but instead I poured myself a drink & carried on adjusting & re-adjusting. One has got to have a certain amount of stamina & humility when fine tuning their survey. Like I said it's brutal in there. I have yet to get used to it. Hang in there.*YES* **pats you on the back** It gets easier as you get better at it.*smile*

What survey was it? You gotta excuse me. I've been gone for a few days except to answer my replies here,I haven't answered any new surveys in over a week. WOW! That's a record for me. & with the site being down for 2 & a half days? Well youy know.*wink*

er..so hello everyone. How are you today? Feeling fine or what.

For us Londoners its a very crap day today as they are having a tube strike. (underground Subway) As the entire city is run on the tube the city has gone pear-shaped. I left the house at 7:00am (an hour early) and didn't get into work until 10:00am. It was a nightmare. People fighting to get on the buses. The roads congested to hell.

Tonight I'm gonna go to a restaurant and then go out and get drunk in the bars and just get the night bus back. Hopefully it will have calmed down by then. Wish me luck! *wink*

Hmm, I wonder if that will work as a way to keep a survey active for a long time. After all the famous (infamous?) "would you let your son wear a dress to kindergarten?" survey, which I have been told holds the record for longest active survey, got to be that way because it was a question that repeatedly engaged discussion at many different levels. Whereas, just putting out a survey whose whole *point* is lasting a long time requires "making a survey last a long time" be an inspiring idea to the group over time. But it will be interesting to see what happens.

(reply to Cleo) posted 18-Jul-2002 12:24pm

Too bad you weren't here when this survey was in qual deleted twice.

The first time: I accidently maked it annanomous, and ironicly when I tried fixing my errors and could, when I told everyone, everyone knew who I was right off the back. Then the people there initially had no problem with it exept for a few misspellings. I fixed them, and then immeadiatly someone pointed out that the explanations is too damn long and HF it. Suddendly, people who intially had no problem realized it and agreed, this survey is "boring" and all started HFing it. It's like they have no mind of their own. And next thing you know, I have decided to delete this survey only moments after changing my mind and redoing it to the point where it looks like this.

On one hand, I am kinnda glad that the extramous explanation is gone, but thats only the silver lining of the fact that now it has no options on it.

Well, like I said, its too bad you didn't get a chance to see it in the qual the other two times, it was one of those things you just had to be there.

(reply to roozle) posted 18-Jul-2002 12:30pm

origianilly, this survey had a self destuction option on it, for people who would get pissed of or bored with it.

It had conditions where everyone would have to volentarily stop typing. But wheater or not people would actually adhear to that is a totally different story, and perhaps an interesting one.

Well, lets just see where this goes.

Well- I have mentioned a man that I met when I was thirteen- and we dated on and off for about 5 years. I was going between him and my (now) husband, he was, is, and always will be- my first real love.

I have wanted all these years to find him- to call him- but I didn't for fear that he did not feel the same. You see, the last time we saw eachother we made love and then shortly after that I spoke to him on the phone and told him the M had asked me to marry him.... I was waitng for B to make a move and tell me not to.
But he did not.

I was not aware of it then, but M had threatend him to stay away- and told B that I hated him and never wanted to see him again. So B did not say a word when I told him that I was thinking of marrying M. Which; then, I just thought he didn't care.

Anyways, after 9 years, I finally got the guts to call him, just yesterday. Turns out he still loves me and wishes that he would have stepped up and just asked me for himself if I wanted to see him. He said that if M had not intervened- that we would have wed and be married even now.*smile*

It makes me sad for what could have been- but happy for what may be*grin*

Thank you! Yup, me and my boss walked down the the West End - battling through the crowds. Went for a drink. Then I went off, had a McDonalds and headed off to my favourite bar. Then went to another near the start of the bus route. Met some lovely people who came and sat at my table and persuaded me to stay longer than I planned. (It didn't take much persuasion) Then - being sensible - walked past 3 or 4 bus stops for about 10 minutes but saved a bundle of time as I got on the bus after the second attempt (it was crowded and the police were doing crowd control *frown* ) and sailed past all those at the bus stops further along the route. Got home about 12:30.

I'm wearing sunglasses today and feeling somewhat fragile so don't talk too loud and don't talk about food or stuff. Thanks

This is a good survey by the way. I think in Qual it was just about attention span.

The answer to the question - some seem to have answered the question even though it was a Rhetorical question - the survey will last as long as enough people will use the reply facility to draw attention to the survey in a couple of weeks time.

Example coming up - check the next (?) reply message.

*frown* Yep! I SO know what you mean. Sometimes I get so depressed when I have to go back in there & make many corrections. Many times have I felt like just giving up on a few surveys & thought, maybe I should just delete the dang thing & be done with it. I haven't created a survey in quite a long time now. IN FACT! It took me a little over a year to EVEN get up the courage TO create one. & when I did,I was such a nervous wreck the whole time that it was in qual that I had to have a drink before I'd even go to my editing/corrections.

I think I'll take a break from creating surveys for a while. At least till I have a brain storm life changing idea to use as a survey question.

There was a time when, SC wasn't getting ANY NEW surveys for about 1 to 3 weeks straight. Probably 2 or 3 every so often that people where wondering WHY no one was creating any new surveys. You see. The same answered surveys kept coming up everyday with no trace of anything new. I was thinking. Maybe the newbies were backing off from creating any surveys because of how nerve racking it can be in qual. But then low & behold, we started getting a lot of poorly formed, thoughtless, child like surveys in there. It was horrible. SO then people were beginning to wonder if the surveys were passing qual because we were so desperate to just get ANYTHING NEW in there to answer.

One moment qual is brutal, then nothing good for a while, then mediocre surveys passing in qual, then them asking why bad surveys are passing. I don't know. I guess it's like the old saying "You can't please ALL of the people all of the time."It got better tho......later. Soooooooo I guess you can say that this is the "ying & yang" of creating surveys & being an SC user.

Like I said hang in there dude!*smile*
