WHAT PUNISHMENT WOULD YOU GIVE TO A MURDERER ?

THIS IS ASSUMING THE PERSON IS 100% GUILTY. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IF A MAN IS FOUND GUILTY BUT IS TRUTHFULLY INNOCENT, I WOULD WANT NO HARM DONE TO HIM !

Only people who confess to a capital offense should be executed. Actually, all things considered (appeals, cost of the actual execution, etc.), it is more expensive to execute someone than to lock them up for life.

oh yeah, try the caps lock on your keyboard

There are too many circumstances involved in any murder case to make a blanket statement, but I do believe in a very severe punishment.

It depends on the elements of the crime. Some people need a good killin'.

How can you tell? That's really what I'd have to consider a hypothetical question because I think it's extremely rare that you can be 100% sure that someone is guilty of murder. Then it may be even more difficult to figure out if it was premeditated or not.

Put them on death row, but don't actually ever kill them, just
make them think you're going to.

while in jail, make them suffer and suffer.

I marked 'DEPENDS' but it depends on more than that.

We've had a survey on the death penalty, so I will not discuss that here.

A lot depends on the context of the crime, i.e. what is your definition of "murder" - the real question in my mind would be whether this person is likely to kill again. Also, what is meant by "100% guilty"? IMHO, the state of human understanding and perception is such that it is not possible to be certain in an absolute sense of anything, and certainly not of things one hasn't personally perceived; for this reason I am against the death penalty. I think the concept of this survey is interesting, but the execution could have been better.

it depends on if it was murder in self defense, premeditated, an accident etc..... but prison time only, i don't believe in the death penalty!

I'm sure people have asked for lowercase here :) It depends greatly. Was it a murder as in a person protecting her home shot an intruder? Was it a drunk lover upset about his cheating wife, shooting the boyfriend when he catches them in the act? Was it a gang member wanting to be initiated, shooting a random person on the street? If it was someone just killing for the sake of killing, and especially someone who had done it repeatedly, I'd be OK with the death penalty.

It really goes case by case, for me anyway. By the way, I rated this bad. All capitals gives me stress.

Women also murder. I didn't check any of the options, I think it depends on the situation. I'm against the death penalty but don't feel very strongly about it, I can really see in some cases that that might be the best option. I object to the unequal way in which it is currently applied.

If they were absolutely positively 100% guilty, I'd let them walk, just like OJ

I like the idea of life in prison, however I would say they should have to have photos of their victims in their cells with them, so they can be reminded daily why they are in prison. How is this survey offensive?

um, i could not lay out a punishment for a crime that i know no facts about. is this murderer a serial killer, or did a bar-room brawl result in death? is he/she likely to kill again? is s/he repentant? i'm afraid i can't answer without knowing the circumstances, and even then i would still be reluctant to pass judgment on someone...

I wouldn't give him any punishment. That's what we have courts for. I'm not a judge and it's the judge that sets the sentence in a criminal case, not you or I.
