  Would you pay the forfeit?

If there was a survey which:

Asked you to pick a number from 1 - 6 and risk a forfeit.
You then picked the (for example) number 2
Within the survey it was declared that
"Those who picked the number 2 must not log on to Survey Central for one week"

Would you pay the forfeit?

*This survey is never going to be created by me - EVER!*

VotesAnswer
10I would pay the forfeit.
7I would refuse to pay the forfeit.
13I would have abstained from the survey.
1I would have cheated on the survey and not picked the bad number ("2").
6Other.

If that was the nature of the forfeit, yes. The occasional gamble kills no-one *smile* Unless you gamble with your life of course.......Or you throw a pair of dice and they bounce back, hit you in the eye and kill you.....

But anyway, this kind of forfeit wouldn't kill you. I'd do it.

Of course, if I didn't know what the forfeit was before I took part, I wouldn't go for it. I'm not doing any "Run naked through the streets of your city then post a picture on the website" forfeits!!! *smile*

But I'm not going to be logging into SC for the next week *frown* because I'm on holiday *smile*

Of course, I never log out of SC, so I could keep coming without breaking teh rules of teh forfeit! *smile*

It would take me two days to decide whether or not to answer the survey and if I decided to do it then I would go along with the forfeit and leave a note in forum expressing my sadness.

Then I think I would go out of my mind. No SC! *surprise* Eeeeek!

where are you going?

(reply to Dino) posted 5-Jul-2002 8:42am

Exmoor or Dartmoor. I keep forgetting to ask which. I was otherwise occupied when she booked it! It's in Devon I think.........Some cottage but not the one that I picked out (I wanted to go to an old spring water bottling cottage but my mum chose somewhere else). I haven't been on holiday for years! *smile*

I wouldn't bother to participate. What's the upside? If you're asking me to take a risk you ought to at least offer me something.

I shall be heading down south (well further down south then what I am now) at the end of July. Going to Exeter for a swimming holiday. I'm finally after all these years going to learn how to swim. *frown*

Why should I risk forfeiting something when there's nothing to gain? If the survey said I'd get something good for picking the right number then I might take my chances.

I don't get it. I log on to SC every week, anyway, so it's no forfeit. In fact, I come to SC almost every day.
Dino
(reply to juliw) posted 5-Jul-2002 7:30pm

But the forfeit is - would you accept a one week ban.
juliw
(reply to Dino) posted 5-Jul-2002 7:48pm

I wouldn't like it, but I guess one week wouldn't be that bad.

Hello you! (for when you come back) Hope you had a nice time!

I went to a book shop today to buy the new Janet Evanovich book but they only had it in hard back and I'm too tight-fisted to fork out for hard-backs. I'll wait for it to come out in paperback.

Must go and find a book now before my holiday on the 27th.

I would abstain from the survey, like I said in Qual-Land.
I would need more of an incentive to take the chance than, say the offered...nothing.

I'd refuse to pay it, since what do I get for taking the chance: nothing.

And how would anyone know anyway............

(reply to Dino) posted 13-Jul-2002 2:39pm

We bought it, took it on holiday, but I didn't read it! *surprise* I've been reading a book from my university reading list and then there was "Memoirs of a Geisha" at the cottage and I've been wanting to read that for ages, so Stephanie went out of the window! I'll read it soon *smile*

Yeah, I bought 'Hard Eight' this weekend. I was gonna hold off for the paperback version but Borders were having a sale - £9.99 and I was getting desparate for reading ideas for my holiday this Saturday. I'm still ploughing my way through Lord of The Rings and I didn't fancy taking that on holiday. I am so looking forward to starting it. I hope its not a let down - you know how you build yourself up for something and expect too much. Have you read your one yet?

(reply to Dino) posted 22-Jul-2002 12:06pm

Not yet! Believe it or not, I've been reading a series of essays about biology by Stephen J Gould..........They're on my university reading list so I thought I'd get started *smile* Then I got distracted when the holiday cottage we went to had Memoirs of a Geisha which I've been wanting to read for ages......Hard Eight's on my list though - I'll get to it eventually!
