| grmbrand | posted 11-Jun-2002 4:06pm My mom had a cleaning lady come in once a week. If I could afford it now, I'd definitely hire one... |
| teatree | posted 11-Jun-2002 4:53pm Geez, I wish! |
| confetti | posted 11-Jun-2002 5:07pm Yes, since forever. I'm a apathetic to it because Doņa Flor is like Hannah in "Little Women" to us, a real friend. I literally think we couldn't manage without her. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 11-Jun-2002 5:19pm Geez I wish...I grew up poor and we never had money for things like that. We have the necessary things like food, clothes, shelter, but not that many of what would be considered luxury items. |
| Glassa | posted 11-Jun-2002 6:09pm I'm not the best housekeeper, but I would feel incredibly lazy if I hired someone else to clean my home. |
| Enheduanna | posted 11-Jun-2002 6:10pm No. My parents didn't hire a cleaning-lady until well after I'd moved out. I've never hired one. I might at some point if I had the money and didn't have the time to clean, and if the house were big enough to warrant it |
| Amanda | posted 11-Jun-2002 6:37pm We had a live-in nanny type person until I was about 12. She would have still been with my parents, but her daughter-in-law died and she moved to live with her son and his kids to help them out. She had been with my family for 15 years. |
| harekrishnadasa | posted 11-Jun-2002 6:54pm My folks have a cleaning dude. |
| juliw | posted 11-Jun-2002 8:28pm nope |
| kirst | posted 11-Jun-2002 9:10pm Yes, we have a maid (domestic helper) two days a week. We could get a full-time live-in maid for less than US$100 more a month but I don't want to give up my privacy. |
| bobofwestgate | posted 12-Jun-2002 2:35am Nope, the closest I've ever come to this is when I've stayed at a motel and I don't think that's what you had in mind. |
| jettles | posted 12-Jun-2002 7:46am yes, when i lived in NY, we had a cleaning lady every two weeks. it was nice actually. |
| moonstone | posted 12-Jun-2002 9:38am No, but I wish I have a maid/cleaning person to come to my house! My Grandparents have somebody come 2 times a month to clean their house. I would need someone to come everyday, or live with us to be worth it for me! |
| moonstone | (reply to romkey) posted 12-Jun-2002 9:41am I agree, because my Grandparents have a guy "maid", too. I thought it was a little sexist, too, but wasn't going to say anything about it till I saw your comment.. |
| Biggles | posted 12-Jun-2002 11:29am No, never. And unless I had a specific reason to (such as being disabled) there is no way that I would. Even if I worked long hours I wouldn't because I wouldn't want a stranger going through my stuff. |
| cuteasabutton | posted 12-Jun-2002 12:27pm Yes, we have a maid and or cleaning lady and I don't like it. It's *me*! |

| Dino | posted 12-Jun-2002 3:29pm No, and wouldn't. Someone poking through my bedside cabinet. They may find the picture of cuteasabutton in there and tell everyone. |
| Cleo | posted 12-Jun-2002 6:56pm When my husband & I were in our 20's we lived in a hotel/motel for 7 or 8 months, where they had maid service. I hated it. Cause we weren't supposed to cook in there so when the maid came around we had to hide all our cooking utensils. What a hassle that was! |
| Cleo | (reply to romkey) posted 12-Jun-2002 7:01pm What do they call a GUY maid?? I've never heard of a guy maid before. **scratches her head** How cool! |
| romkey | (reply to Cleo) posted 12-Jun-2002 9:46pm I call him a cleaning person |
| ASB | (reply to romkey) posted 12-Jun-2002 10:51pm The cleaning guy |
| Cleo | (reply to romkey) posted 12-Jun-2002 10:52pm Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Okay! I would probably call him Sir. |
| romkey | (reply to Cleo) posted 13-Jun-2002 12:09am Mick cleans your house? wow! |
| Cleo | (reply to romkey) posted 13-Jun-2002 12:19am No! Silly! I wish!!!!!! But then again his wife probably wouldn't like him cleaning my house. But it is a nice thought though. **Wheew! I'm getting hot, turns on the fan** This dang California desert weather is gonna kill me yet! |
| Zang | posted 13-Jun-2002 6:53am Around the time I was a teenager, we had a woman come in once a week to clean the house. I can't remember for how long it lasted. Maybe a few years, maybe less. |
| freebird_old | posted 16-Jun-2002 7:40am No. And I'm not sure I would like it, cleaning around the house helps me get rid of stress. |
| mikehunt696 | posted 16-Jun-2002 4:03pm I'm not sure if this would apply, but my mom sometimes called an agency to hire someone to help her when she had heavy cleaning-usually spring cleaning. The person would help her in doing a very thorough cleaning of the house from attic to basement, but this was only for about 2 days once a year. Carpets were shampooed, curtains washed, draperies dry cleaned and every couple of years some of the rooms were repainted and my mom hired someone to do that as well. But if you are asking if we had a regular maid or cleaning lady on a daily or weekly basis, then the answer would be no. |
| natsim | posted 16-Jun-2002 7:13pm Once when my Mum was doing some extra work, we had a cleaning lady for a month. It was strangely clean, since we were pretty happy with low level dust and I always felt like I had to tidy up my room before she came. I don't think I'd mind now. |
| juliw | posted 23-Jun-2002 5:11pm I work at a place that employs Sue, a backstabbing dog! |
| mikehunt696 | posted 24-Jun-2002 3:22am I should point out that this stopped when we lost the house when I was around 5 years old and moved into a studio apartment. |
| juliw | posted 24-Jun-2002 6:44pm I am sorry and ashamed for typing something mean about my friend Sue |
| pengy | posted 27-Jun-2002 3:25pm At my undergraduate university all of the dorms had maids. They took out our trash, vaccuumed our rooms and dusted in addition to cleaning the kitchen and bathroom. |

I used to be very comfortable with the idea... I was uncomfortable about the privacy implications, I was uncomfortable about paying someone to do something I didn't want to do myself. But I learned not to look down on the profession - good cleaners work hard and do a much better job than I would ever do, more quickly than I would, and have a fair bit of specialized knowledge that goes with the field. I respect them a lot and feel good about having them come in to clean.
