| Zang | posted 8-Jun-2002 7:48pm As regularly as I'm expecting company. |
| Galomorro | posted 8-Jun-2002 8:16pm I wouldn't call what I do "making" my bed. I simply straighten up the covers and pull the main cover (a heavy Moroccan rug) over all of it so it'll look better. I do not have a regular bed like most people do. I have had a bunk bed for many years. I used to sleep on the top bunk but several years ago I injured my legs and could not easily climb the ladder, so started to sleep on the bottom, which is a mere mattress on the carpet, as I gave away the bottom bunk's attachment some years ago. So the mattress is not raised from the carpet at all. If I was to buy a new bed in the future I'd get a single-person futon. With this bunk bed, however (I wanted a loft bed but could not afford one then), I can put plants on top and store some stuff on the top... a plus in a tiny studio apt. |
| romkey | posted 8-Jun-2002 9:04pm I regularly straighten up the sheets. It's not exactly what most people would call making the bed. We don't have a bedspread or cover for it. But I do adjust the sheets and comforter almost daily; otherwise they get twisted into a mess in the middle. |
| LuridHope | posted 8-Jun-2002 9:41pm I think I made my bed once... when I brought it home from Jordan's furniture. It's pretty sturdy, I haven't had to make another one since. |
| Oscar | posted 8-Jun-2002 10:17pm Nope. I like it messy. |
| Lahdee | posted 8-Jun-2002 10:21pm Yes. I don't have my own place right now and I live at my inlaws (bleh) so I only have a tiny space as opposed to a big space. I have to make the bed to make room for myself and when I read or write, I sit on the bed to do it. When I lived in my own place I did not make the bed regularly. |
| moonstone | posted 8-Jun-2002 10:55pm I don't usually make it everyday. I don't really spend too much time in my bedroom, so I don't really care if the bed is made or not. I probably make the bed 3-4 times a week. p.s. I can't believe this survey made it though without crediting justjulie's survey that was just done in Feb....Whatever, I'll give her the credit myself... http://surveycentral.org/survey/10969.html |
| mandy | posted 8-Jun-2002 11:29pm At home, usually we do before we leave for the day. I strip and make beds at work too. I just read that again. I mean...strip the beds! |
| Amanda | posted 9-Jun-2002 1:10am Yes, my bed is made almost every day. Sometimes my SO works nights, so on those days it doesn't get made because he sleeps during the day. |
| NthenSome | posted 9-Jun-2002 7:10am Not regularly. Not irregularly. Not since boot camp in '83, I think. Terrible at housecleaning, cooking, doing laundry, taking out the trash. My SO is good with all that - so I'm good for the lawn, the plumbing and fixtures repairs, cleaning up after the pup and the finances. He doesn't make the bed much though either come to think of it. I guess we both can't stand wasting energy on something we know we're only going to mess up later anyway. Change the sheets every now and then, make the bed when you're having business or friends over. The rest of the day, where the bed's concerned, play with the pup on it. |
| Enheduanna | posted 9-Jun-2002 10:32am Pretty much every day. |
| Biggles | posted 9-Jun-2002 12:44pm I *never* make my bed at home. |
| confetti | posted 9-Jun-2002 12:59pm No, the maid does it and she also changes the sheets (twice a week). But it's really not so much of a big deal. I'm very still when I sleep, it's spooky. Generally all she has to do is tuck one tiny corner up of the blanket. Probably because the bed is so covered with stuffed animals that if I moved around a lot I would just fall off. |
| juliw | posted 9-Jun-2002 2:04pm Yep |
| TylersMamma | posted 9-Jun-2002 2:21pm It depends on how much of a rush I am in to leave the house |
| NthenSome | (reply to confetti) posted 9-Jun-2002 2:43pm haha! You're painting a humorous picture. |
| Dino | posted 9-Jun-2002 3:26pm Not really. I have a duvet so I just sling the thing back to a reasonable neatness and leave it. Sometimes the sheet I use too gets a bit tangled so I straighten that out before I get in again but not full on strip the bed and do it again. |
| Irene007 | posted 9-Jun-2002 4:38pm Not really, only after a major clean up - then I like to keep it neat, but that never lasts... Besides, the room is remote and no one sees it. My son's, on the other hand, is quite visible - he has to keep his neat! |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 9-Jun-2002 8:56pm I have a futon on the floor which I use with a comforter or light quilt (depending on the weather). I don't use a top sheet, just a bottom one so there is no real bed making involved unless I'm putting on a fresh bottom sheet or pillow cases. |
| bobofwestgate | posted 9-Jun-2002 9:08pm I make it completely at least once a week when I change the sheets and pillowcases. Between times I might brush out any crumbs if I've been eating in bed. My bed is in my bedroom and if someone comes over I make sure the door is shut so that can't see my messy bedroom. Clean laundry in one basket that was washed last week but not put away. More laundry...dirty this time in another basket. It seems my laundry gets rotated from basket to basket instead of being hung up or put away in the dresser but who is there to scold me for being such a slob? |
| skylark | posted 10-Jun-2002 2:30am I used to, but since I'm sleeping on the floor now and am always "busy" and tired I only do it twice or so a week. |
| kirst | posted 10-Jun-2002 7:41am Yes, I make it every day other than Tuesday. That's the day my maid comes and changes the sheets. |
| grmbrand | posted 10-Jun-2002 8:10am No; my wife is usually still in it when I leave for work. |
| CarolL | posted 10-Jun-2002 4:10pm Sadly, no |
| teatree | posted 10-Jun-2002 5:07pm I make mine everyday unlike SOME people! *gives kate a sanctimonius look* |
| kaleb777 | posted 11-Jun-2002 9:16am I never make my bed, even when I change my sheets I just tuck the top sheet in at the foot of the bed then chuck the cover over the top. What's the point of making a bed every day? It seems like just making work, sort of like watering the yard when it's raining. |
| Glassa | (reply to kaleb777) posted 11-Jun-2002 11:46pm Kaleb, that's exactly how I feel! LOL |
| Cleo | posted 12-Jun-2002 1:57am No I don't....not regularly anyway. |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 12-Jun-2002 2:04am |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Glassa) posted 12-Jun-2002 9:11am |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Cleo) posted 12-Jun-2002 9:18am You have a maid? I assume the company you expect are the type you will be escorting to the bedroom! |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 12-Jun-2002 5:48pm No,no Kaleb! I ment that when we go on "VACATION" & we're staying in a hotel,I make the bed up for the maids. My husband hates when I do that. He says that's what hotel maids get paid for. I just can't see it.You know??? The maid coming in our room & it's all a mess. Even if I were wealthy enough to have a maid,it would be fruitless, cause I would end up cleaning the house up before the maid came to clean it |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Cleo) posted 13-Jun-2002 12:02am You know they have to pull all the sheets off anyway, so you're probably making their job harder. I used to think I would never have a maid if I was rich but I think I would now, only I would have her/him only clean the "public" areas of my home - ie the lounge, rumpus etc, and I would only employ a young person since I couldn't handle seeing a 50yo woman scrubbing the floor. I would pay them very well too. I wouldn't have a servant to fetch me drinks. |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 13-Jun-2002 12:08am I'd have to think about that for a while. You know? The thought of having a full time live in maid. I would feel guilty having him/her cleaning up after my family & I all the time. I think that I would still have to clean up before she came in to clean up. I wouldn't mind having an on call live in chef tho. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Cleo) posted 13-Jun-2002 12:25am A chef would be good. Maybe a chef and someone to clean windows and floors and dust. I wouldn't want to have someone else clean my toilet. |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 13-Jun-2002 3:32am Yeah I totally agree! I would be too ashamed to let anyone clean our toilets. I don't mind doing the floors cause I love to vacuum,I like looking at the before & after effects. & as long as someone else cooks & don't mind doing dishes either. I need a chef, tho! I wonder how much they cost? Not that I can afford one but I'm just curious like that. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Cleo) posted 13-Jun-2002 10:01am i like vacuuming in bare feet so I can feel how clean the carpet gets. |
| doom | posted 13-Jun-2002 1:02pm Only when company is coming over and I know that they will want a tour of the house, otherwise I never make the bed unless I have just changed the bedding |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 13-Jun-2002 5:18pm Oh my gosh! So do I. But mostly I like to just look at the carpet afterwards. You like to vacuum too Kaleb? No one else in my family enjoys it like I do. They would rather do anything other than vacuuming. They detest it. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Cleo) posted 14-Jun-2002 8:27am I have one of those in built vacuums that I only have to empty once every six months (in theory). They are the fudging bomb! No dust is spread back around the house, it all goes outside. |
| dlp34 | posted 18-Jun-2002 3:41pm my wife usually gets to it first |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 18-Jun-2002 8:38pm Wow!!! My mother-in-law had one of those kinds of vacuums.I wish we had one. It's a little hole in the wall that you hook up a hose to vacuum with. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Cleo) posted 19-Jun-2002 10:28am I also love mowing the lawn! Everywhere you walk ends up looking nice |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 20-Jun-2002 3:15am I;ve never mowed the lawn. I guess lawn mowing it's kinda like vacuuming but only your out side. |
| wolfchik9 | posted 21-Jun-2002 1:52am Why make it all pretty when you're just gonna jump right back in it? Of course, if you're expecting company that will see your bed... that's different. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Cleo) posted 21-Jun-2002 12:12pm Try a push mower. I've got one of those too. It only cost me $90 Australian and uses no fuel. |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 22-Jun-2002 12:36am How long does it take to mow your lawn with a push mower? |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Cleo) posted 22-Jun-2002 6:57am I don't mow the entire lawn with it. I use the 4 stroke for that, but I do mow around the back stairs with the push mower in between full mows in summer to keep up with the growth. In Queensland summer is wet, hot and humid, Summer is the growing season and I don't exagerate when I say the grass will grow around 7 cm (3 inches) in one day depending on the type of grass. |
| mandy | posted 22-Jun-2002 1:40pm hehehehehehe Just 4 strokes? *cheeky smile* |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 24-Jun-2002 3:08pm Oh my gosh! That's insanity! Who can keep up with their lawn when it grows at that quick rate?? I would have to have a REALLY small lawn area or I'd install "astro turf" (that's fake grass) Does you fruits & vegetables grow just as fast?? That would be SO cool if it did. As it is right now my seeds are taking longer than I care to wait.& they're in a little homemade hot house.I have no patience when it comes to starting flowers & vegetables from seed. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Cleo) posted 25-Jun-2002 3:52pm Native trees grow very fast, especially if you stick them in the ground and forget them. Eucalypts love long periods of drought followed by a huge rain. In a few days they will be covered in new growth. In summer you can always hear a lawnmower going somewhere. People in suburbia might mow their yards every week. You have to remember that in winter there is no rain in SE Queensland so the grass dies. That's the good thing about winter - no mowing. Mangos grow very fast. In mango season there is so many that people throw them out. The city council now has banned people from disposing of mangos in wheelie bins because the garbage trucks couldn't lift the bins. |
| mandy | (reply to kaleb777) posted 27-Jun-2002 2:22am OMIGOD! I just ate my very first mango ever, tonight...just before reading this comment. I couldn't finish it, it was so fudging sweet and I have to be careful with my blood sugar. I loved it. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to mandy) posted 27-Jun-2002 3:50pm I sit outside in summer cutting slices of mango up. They are my favourite fruit. |
| mandy | (reply to kaleb777) posted 27-Jun-2002 4:07pm mmmmmmmmmm messy |
| Biggles | (reply to mandy) posted 27-Jun-2002 5:24pm Mmmmm, I love mangos too. I've only had fresh mango once or twice and it's much nicer than the tinned stuff. |
| Cleo | (reply to kaleb777) posted 28-Jun-2002 3:22am Wow! I love mangos I grew up on them as a kid in Hawaii. They were everywhere & free for the taking.I was just telling my husband how it was for me as a kid growing up there. We never needed money to eat. The fruits were abundant & everywhere.Soybeans grew wild there also & we'd pick those & bring them home to boil like peanuts.Guava trees were a real treat for us as was the tamarindos that fell to the ground for us to eat.We had a fruit there called five star that was a bit tart & tangy. My favorite was the ground tomatoes that were so sweet right off the vine. I miss those good ole days. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to mandy) posted 28-Jun-2002 4:00pm I have a guava tree but the cockatoos usually get to them before I do. I have a few Macadamia nut trees. Did you know they are native Australian trees and were originally called Queensland nuts? I have an olive tree and pawpaw (papaya) and a feijoa tree. I'm suddenly hungry! |
| mandy | (reply to kaleb777) posted 28-Jun-2002 6:11pm *Thinking about raiding your garden* |
| mikehunt696 | posted 29-Jun-2002 12:22am I change the sheets weekly and make it then. I straighten up the covers between times if it needs it. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to mandy) posted 29-Jun-2002 11:00am Is "garden" an euphemism? |
| mandy | (reply to kaleb777) posted 29-Jun-2002 12:40pm For jeans? Yes. You got me! |
| dora | posted 3-Jul-2002 3:30pm No.Since I'm 23 my mother doesn't either.Well sometimes she does because I don't make it at all for WEEKS! I hate doing the bed,it kills me.And I need a new bed too because all my pillows (I sleep with 3 of them) just slip under the bed! Sometimes I do the bed, when I'm in my rare cleaning mood. That comes like every 2 or 3 months, when everything is full of rubbish,I go into a a cleaning spree and do not only the things I have to do to restoring a human appearance for my room, but much more. |
| oOStephOo | posted 5-Jul-2002 12:49am I think it is a waste of time considering you are just going to be sleeping in it that night anyways!! |
| mross | posted 10-Feb-2007 1:58am I fluff up the pillows & comforter daily, but only make the bed when I put on a clean sheet & pillowcases. |
| falkensmaze | posted 5-May-2007 11:48pm Not really. I brush off the bottom sheet to remove any crumbs or grit and straighten out the comforter if it's messed up. |
