Make a wish for someone else!

Welcome to my wishing well.

Toss in a coin and make a wish. One catch though - self-serving wishes will backfire.

Therefore, tragically, you cannot wish for good things for yourself. (e.g. I wish I could win money).
You cannot wish for your partner to win money if your motive is to reap these rewards.

Do you have a friend, a work colleague, a neighbour who could use some good luck?

Perhaps you want to anonymously make a wish for someone on Survey Central?

So, come on - toss in that coin and make your wish!

I hope that my friend, Sarah gets the grades she needs to get into university. She's been made a reduced offer of BBC because she has to stay in Sheffield and because she lost her mum this year, but she might not quite get the grade B in Chemistry that she needs. She wants to study neuroscience because her mum died of MND. She'll make a good neuroscientist whatever grades she gets at A-level so she deserves to get in regardless.

I hope my younger brother gets an A* for GCSE History. He's never been quite as academic as myself or my older brother but he's really good at History. My older brother got a B and I got an A for History so it would do wonders for my younger brother's confidence if he could get an A* (and beat both of us) in History. Sibling rivalry should make me want him to do worse than me, but I'd love for him to be able to say he's better than me at an academic subject *smile*

I have a sister-in-law that is really silly. We were friends for a while before I hooked her up with one of my brothers. We would always make a wish on a star and she would always wish for a donkey. It's always been a little joke between us. I'd wish for a good man and she'd wish for a donkey, saying a donkey was as good as a man because they're both jackasses.

I wish my uncle would not have the health problems he keeps getting. I also hope that when he finally does pluck up the courage to have an Aids test (7 years after his ex-boyfriend died of Aids) that the results come back negative.

I would also like my Mum to win some money - not too much but enough so she can go back to working part-time and get a car or scooter as its a long way for her to walk every day. Or at least a pay-rise.

I wish that cuteasabutton would gather the strength to get the hell out of that relationship and know that she CAN make it on her own with her children. There is an old saying that says something to the effect that the payoff to being a widow is the PEACE a woman finally has. My mother can attest to that. My father beat the crap out of her for thirty years before he died, and she has never been happier.
CAAB, remember that if nothing changes, nothing changes. That means that without some type of change in your husband's life like counselling or finding religion or whatever, HE WILL NOT STOP. HE WILL NOT STOP.
The main thing I remember throughout my life and watching my father hospitalize my mother all those times is that, as a teenager, I did not respect my mother because my father did not respect her and SHE DIDN'T RESPECT HERSELF. So throughout my teenage years, she was a "dumb fudging dog" who couldn't control me because my father had always been the rule-maker and enforcer in our house. I have since learned that I was soooo wrong, but the years of hell she put up with from my father and then later from me, well, there isn't anything that would make ME think it was worth it. DON'T WAIT FOR HIM TO KILL YOU. Men kill women all the time. Your meekness and patience, hope and wishing will not save your life. If anything, not removing yourself from your dangerous situation is almost contributing to your own death. Please, CAAB, get out while you are still alive. There is help everywhere. YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME. But you have to get out.
Your friend, Carol L

Yeah, this is the biggest tragedy. I read a book (excuse the title) 'Men who hate women and the women who love them' by Susan Norwood. The tragedy was that the kids growing up loose respect for the mother.

I'm a little bit worried about CAAB now. She said she may not be around and I wonder if it was because of all of this. She was looking for support - she's mentioned it a few times before asking why doesn't anyone respect those who want to save a marriage. And that her personality is not that of just a victim. I shall wait patiently and keep e-mailing her.

I wish for all abused children to never be abused ever again, but if I have to wish for one individual then think of that person you know that's being abused and give them that name. Also, if you know of someone, do something about it. I don't care if it's a complete stranger, if I see someone hitting a child, I immediately step in and try to stop it. Abusers really piss me off! You see, I married someone who was abused as a child, and there are still lingering effects at her age of 33. Never let the abuse continue, if you can stop it. I'm still patching up wounds, and we've been together for 16 years.

First I thought it was my fault, so I tried to change. Then I tried to help him, it didn't work as you can't help those who do not want it or those who refuse to admit they need it. He interpreted my waiting for change as acceptance of his abuse, so it got worse. I threw him out but that did not stop him. I recently ended up in the ER due to this. I was terrified to get a restraining order, but night before last he promised to kill me. I immediately got a restraining order, I know it is just a piece of paper but once I got home with it I felt more peaceful than I had in months. And in a week or so I will be in a new area, having to start all over, its scary but much better that the alternative. I know its hard, the only friends/family I have are my Dad and his wife and they are in another state, I have no friends HE made sure of that early on, makes it easier to control. Anyway, if you also lack a good support system, or if you have any questions, or just want someone to listen/talk don't hesitate to e-mail me. Even if you don't know what to say, but just need to know someone else is out here.
