Do you pay a heavy "Spaz Tax?"

Do you return rented movies or borrowed books late and pay heavy fines? Forget to pay your credit card bill and pay fees?

It's not a Spaz-Tax if you legitimately don't have the money, but if the money is in one account and you accidentally pay the bill from a different account, you pay an Extra Special Spaz-Surcharge.

If you send out gifts at the last minute and ship them over-night, that's likely a Spaz-Tax; but if you're sending them just as late, but don't care if they get there on time or not (so you don't send them over-night), you qualify for the Apathy-Exemption.

2No, I qualify for a large Apathy Exemption.
7I prefer to think of it as a "Relaxed Lifestyle Premium."
2When something like this happens to me it's usually not my fault.
9I get upset with myself for doing these things.
4I get upset with the other person who made me late.
9I get upset with the organization which is charging me extra.
4I don't get upset about these fees at all.
6These kinds of situations don't apply to my lifestyle at all.

Sometimes-Rarely. I think that's how video stores make their money. and then there was the time I buried a credit bill, and gambled on mail delivery speed on another, and that's enough to move into a credit rate that's twice as high.

Sometimes - my husband used to pay a lot of Spaz-Tax until recently. My training is really working! (Nagging doesn't work but whining does!)

Very rarely. I once had to pay 8 pence on a book from the library that was one day overdue. Other than that I'm really efficient. Although I just received a reminder from British Gas for an unpaid bill. The delay was only 10 days. And it was because it wouldn't allow me to pay on-line or over the phone. I had to physically go the post-office to pay it. I ended up sending a cheque.

It's not that I'm organized so much as I just doesn't occur to me to let those sorts of things slip.

Occasionally. Things got better after I moved to a web-based bill management service.

Sometimes. Occasionally I'll pay a bill late, but most of them don't charge for that. I try to be more careful about paying the ones that do charge.
I do pay a lot of library fines, but that comes with the turf, being a grad student. I have too many books checked out to keep track of when they're all due. Fortunately, my university just started using a fixed semester due date for grad students' books, so now they're all due the same day, every four or six months or so. Much better.

Well.. I used to do it a lot.. but my SO handles the bills and stuff now... so the only fine I end up paying is for library books.

The last time I had a late fee on a video was 7 years ago and they give you a printed slip telling when your books are due at my library or you can check on line if you loose the slip and I have no credit cards. I pay my bills on time, but if for some reason I can't, I contact the billing company and make payment arrangements.

I owe the library 90.00$. Ooops. I was at the hospital with my dying mother, and they still won't take off the fines. I did take the books back.

No. Money's too dear to me with a 45, 000 colon allowance to be such a nitwit.

rarly, if ever. But then again, I am not well organized well either. So far, I have never been fully on my own, thus every body else has taken care of the things I need, and I don't have to worry about bills either.

Of course, this survey lacks an "i don't pay my own bills yet option".

Of course, that depends if you count buying drinks from the vending machine w/ my own money because the stores here at UNO suck, and they close at 9 PM. And what about the $.05 they charge us for a print out of paper. (out of my control to a certain extent)

Hmm...let's see, I paid for voice mail on my cell phone for about 2 years before I got around to setting it up. ($2 a month = about $50) I think I pay banking fees for not getting around to registering all my bills that I pay through the bank machine. (All the ones I did set up I don't even use any more. I pay all my bills by selecting "other".) I never got around to submitting copies of my cell phone bills to my employer, who would have reimbursed about 30%...maybe $75 there...It didn't seem to be worth the hassle...

Sometimes I've forgotten to return some books on time, but not for a long while. The most expensive fees I had to pay were 5 dollars altogether or so.

Good job you didn't get my e-mail as I had to break off and send it half finished. My boss came over to discuss some spreadsheet and 'hotmail compose' was sitting on the bottom of my task bar. He went and answered the phone so I clicked send and closed it down. I'll resend it.

I'll type a new one. My boss is out today.

What's the origin of the term "spaz-tax" The only possibility I can think of is hideously un-PC!

I don't usually have a problem here, but hubby will offer to return DVDs and then forget them in his car and not tell me for a couple of days, he also tends to do the same with the mail, he will pick it up and then toss it in the back seat w/out even looking at it, then he gets home and says we did not receive anything of any importance. Meanwhile the bills and late fees are adding up. Now I have to go down and clean out his car once a week.........hmmmmm but maybe that was his plan.........

I selected your "Relaxed Lifestyle Premium" option. * smile *

When I did eventually set up the voice mail, I remembered what had put me off in the first place. It still irritates me to no end...the little "cheerful" robot-woman voice that one has to deal with. It reminds me of the worst kind of plastic smiling customer service individual with the added bonus of sounding exactly the same EVERY FUDGING TIME!!! I think I would prefer it if the voice sounded like Beavis and Butthead, snickering, and blowing their lines...They really should have that as an option! * smile *

I have a new toll-free number for my biz, and it comes with hold music that's completely bland, so desperately inoffensive as to be wretched. And I can't opt out of it at all- that's so not the image I want to give my customers!
Zang
(reply to Gamera) posted 26-Apr-2002 6:38pm
Just try to avoid keeping them on hold too long and I'm sure it will be fine. I don't mind that sort of thing myself. I don't really listen to it. I think the purpose is to let the caller know that they are connected. Bland and desperately inoffensive is actually preferable. It is so much easier to completely ignore. I hold the phone just far enough away that I can barely make it out. (Which is coincidentally exactly what I do with "Robot-Woman"!)

I often pay for late DVD returns which craps me very much. I have managed my finaces to avoid bank fees. I pay for groceries and large purchases with a debit card and around once a week I withdraw about $200 to cover fuel, food and other expenses so I don't get hit with an excess transaction fee like I used to when I would withdraw $20 at a time.
