| msgman | posted 8-Apr-2002 5:00am This is a webcam view of the cathedral in the city where I live: http://www.ely.org.uk/webcam/ This is actually he view that I would have of the cathedral from my front window, if it wasn't for the fact that the building housing the webcam is in the way! If you watch this webcam regularly, though, you might see me or my car in the car park It isn't exactly a webcam, but there's an aerial photo of where I live here: http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=europe&x=554438&y=280134&scale=5000&width=700&height=410 The cathedral is at the left of the picture, and my house is just below the centre, where the road coming in diagonally from the bottom meets the one starting above the cathedral and then curving down to the bottom after passing the roads diagonally off to the bottom and the top right. If you switch to the "overlay map" view, I'm on the east side of Broad St, in between Back Lane and Fore Hill/Waterside. The building with the webcam is, unsurprisingly, the other side of the road! There are some webcams of Cambridge, where I work, here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cambridgeshire/funstuff/webcams/webcam_cambridge.shtml (Although none of these show the part of the city where I work) You can see where I work from the air at: http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=europe&x=546001&y=261575&scale=5000&width=700&height=410 Our office is the largest of the three white-roofed buildings in the centre of the picture - the one shaped a bit like an "H". Incidentally, the world's first webcam was in Cambridge (the Trojan Room coffee pot at Cambridge University), but it doesn't exist any more. |
| Biggles | posted 8-Apr-2002 6:28am I can't find any although I know that there are some. I'd expect there to be some links from this page: http://www.sheffweb.co.uk/index.html or this one: http://www.sheffweb.co.uk/pages/editorial/cityguide but I can't find them! |
| Dino | posted 8-Apr-2002 8:29am There is one which shows the centre of london called soho cam. I'll hunt the inadequate link later. I often go there so I guess that counts. I'll be there Tuesday night on my way to the comedy club and I'm there most Saturdays. |
| LindaH | posted 8-Apr-2002 11:56am There's a few anchorage web cams. I'll try to get back to you on the links. |
| LindaH | (reply to kaleb777) posted 8-Apr-2002 11:58am This is an AWESOME survey. I love web cams, and I love looking at pictures of places, especially if I know someone from there. This should be fun, clicking on all the links. *rates survey good* |
| Dino | posted 8-Apr-2002 12:14pm http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?P2M?P=e154au&Z=1 Well I'm having a hard time getting the link for the webcam. Maybe they're down. I'll keep looking. I've provided a map of my area by way of compensation. Here is a subway map http://www.londontransport.co.uk/images/jp_big.jpg I live in a place called Stratford. Its on the red line (central) in the EastEnd. |

| moonstone | (reply to msgman) posted 8-Apr-2002 10:50pm Some of my family lives in Cambridgeshire, well Wisbech to be exact...Are you familiar with Wisbech at all? |
| msgman | (reply to moonstone) posted 9-Apr-2002 4:49am I wouldn't call myself familiar with Wisbech - it's a town that I travel through, rather than to, if you know what I mean. I'm familiar with the road through the middle and out the other side, but that's about it It isn't far away from me, though - just over 20 miles. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to LindaH) posted 9-Apr-2002 6:27pm Same here! I once found a traffic cam in New York City that had somehow been knocked or fallen so it looked straight down at the camera base and to a freeway deck below. I found it fascinating to examine this scene so far away from where I am. What a freak! |
| moonstone | (reply to msgman) posted 9-Apr-2002 10:50pm Well, cool. You're the 1st person I know to have ever even heard of Wisbech. |
| icurok | posted 11-Apr-2002 1:03pm There are none where I live (that I can find), but plenty where I work. They help me plan my route home to beat the traffic http://www.bbc.co.uk/nottingham/webcams/county_jamcams.shtml |
