Yes. And soon my drop-dead gorgeous friend Daniela (who is 14 and has already gotten her big break--in a commercial to tell people to donate their organs, much to our amusement ) will be getting nose surgery because her perfect Grecian nose was dented by a baseball at age 5. I wish she wouldn't. I'm sure she'll become famous but I happen to love that dent and it could be her trademark...like Angelina's lips or Brooke Shields' eyebrows. |

I have a friend who is preparing for reconstructive surgery. She was born with a cleft lip and cleft palate which also causes a deformity in the nose in some cases. First she has to go through a great deal of dental work including oral surgery and braces as her teeth were damaged by a dentist who did not properly sterilize his instruments resulting in infections that damaged a lot of his patients teeth. After they get her mouth into shape, Oregon Health Sciences will rebuild her nose so it looks normal. The deformity is in part from the birth defect and in part from the surgery to repair the cleft lip and palate. This is something she has wanted to have done for years, but didn't have the money. She has the money now as a result of the malpractice suit she and other patients brought against the aforementioned dentist. |

My mother-in-outlaw had a boob job YEARS ago. |

I've never had any. I know a young boy who had his lower lip bitten of by a dog and needed reconstructive surgery. |

I would like to get my nose fixed - I was racially attacked when I was 16 and its broke and has a bump on the bridge. I'm too poor though. I could maybe get it done on the NHS(free UK healthcare) but I can't be arsed going to the psych appointment.
I would like my poor eyesight lasered but I need more information on it and would like to meet someone who has had it done. |

I don't know |

I would never get plastic surgery, unless I was disfigured by an accident or something, but that is different. |

My dad had his eyes lasered to get rid of developing cataracts due to his diabetes. It took an an hour and he had blurry vision for a couple of days but he says it wasn't painful and it was worth getting it done, if that helps. He doesn't have to wear glasses anymore. |

Go ask him if he has weird vision at night-time. Go phone him now! Quick!!! |

I've had some extensive jaw surgery as a result of some orthodontics procedures (aka braces). My upper jaw was cut and pull forwarded, and my lower jaw was cut and pushed back to realign how my teeth fit. Does that count? |
| moonstone | | (reply to lion) posted 7-Mar-2002 12:17pm |
Yes, that counts...(ouch!) I hope you're better now, that sounds like it was a very painful experience. |

I've never had either. I know a girl my age who had plastic surgery. |

I had a brain operation just over a year ago and the doctor had to knock out more bone than he had planned -- but out of the goodness of his heart he rebuilt my skull so that I wouldn't have to live out the rest of my life with a big dent in my temple. |

I asked him, he doesn't. It's all normal apparently. He had it done in about September. |

I know a man that was hit in the face and had to have reconstructive surgery. The surgeon did a great job. You can't even see the scar. His whole right cheek bone and eye socket were crushed.
My cousin had breast reduction surgery 10 years ago. She had back pain because he hoo-hoos were so big. |

I haven't had either, and don't plan to. I know people who have had breast reconstruction (after a double mastectomy) and other procedures. |

I am changing the subject here, but I went to the doctor today (Thursday), and got very good news. The results of my stress test were good, and the doctor is taking me off one of my medications. Unless anything unexpected happens, I don't have to go back to the doctor for six months. Yay! I feel like I am finally "out of the woods". |
| Cleo | | (reply to juliw) posted 14-Mar-2002 9:06pm |
What's the name of the medication he's taking you off,if you don't mind my asking.Sometimes just stopping taking certain meds can not be good. However,I did think that the results of your test is wonderful news! Yay!!!!!!!!! No more doctor for six months!! Thank God for that!!! I'm extremely happy for you Julie! |
| juliw | | (reply to Cleo) posted 15-Mar-2002 5:56pm |
The medication he is taking me off is Coumadin ( a blood thinner). I was a little worried, because a stroke is technically a blood clot that goes to the brain. I said, "Without a blood thinner, isn't there greater risk of a stroke?" He said that I should take one baby aspirin every day instead, because it is also a good blood thinner, but without the risks associated with taking Coumadin. At first, my heart was very weak and in bad shape, so I needed the Coumadin. But now, my heart is a lot more healthy, and the doctor he thinks it is very unlikely that I will have another stroke from a blood clot. So, that means have recovered pretty well from the stroke. It also means that I will not have to go for monthly blood tests anymore! |
| Cleo | | (reply to juliw) posted 16-Mar-2002 10:45pm |
Whew!!!!! That's what I thought.I wasn't sure about the medication, but now that you mentioned, that he said, for you to take (baby)aspirin, that sounds about right.I do know that aspirin causes blood to thin, that's why I had to refrain from taking aspirins, while I was having that on going, bleeding problem, for 5 months. At any rate,I'm so happy that everything is better. |
| juliw | | (reply to Cleo) posted 17-Mar-2002 8:42am |
I meant to ask you if you are feeling better now. I hope the bleeding has stopped. |
| Cleo | | (reply to juliw) posted 18-Mar-2002 7:04pm |
Oh yeah!!! I feel like brand new now.I had to go to the ER a few weeks back, because the nurse at my doctors office, said there was nothing more they could do for me.At any rate, the doctor on duty prescribed me some strong medication & it fixed me right up! I feel so much better now! |
