| CarolL | posted 6-Mar-2002 3:39pm I love my job but I would still quit. Maybe work part time but definitely I would quit. I would like to see just how long it takes for me to get "bored". |
| confetti | posted 6-Mar-2002 3:55pm (comment from a ninth-grader) If on the rare chance that I could publish "Quest in the Blue" before I turn 18 I would quit school and do...I don't know what. I don't really think there's much possibility of it, but if they do go into print, I have a feeling they'll be a big deal and not fade into the background like the Phillip Pullman series with only a few die hard fans. Just a feeling. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 6-Mar-2002 4:06pm I'm unemployed, but I would use the money to open a Bed & Breakfast at the Oregon coast and talk romkey into cooking the breakfasts for me. He could make all the pancakes he wants. |
| Zang | posted 6-Mar-2002 4:11pm I will be unemployed in about 6 weeks. If I won the lottery, which would be difficult considering that I don't make a habit of buying tickets, I would probably take it easy for a while, but eventually I would probably want to get back into helping people. |
| LindaH | posted 6-Mar-2002 4:59pm I don't work, but if I did, I would quit. |
| Lahdee | posted 6-Mar-2002 5:15pm I dont have a job. My husband works... He'd probably quit and we'd spend time together with the kids. |
| romkey | posted 6-Mar-2002 5:41pm Metaphorically speaking, I think I already won the lottery some years back |
| romkey | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 6-Mar-2002 5:42pm that sounds like fun! |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to romkey) posted 6-Mar-2002 5:46pm I thought you'd like that. Do you do omelets as well? |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Zang) posted 6-Mar-2002 5:47pm What's happening to your job? |
| Gamera | posted 6-Mar-2002 6:30pm I would continue to run my business, but I would change some of the ways I go about it. |
| Jemmy | posted 6-Mar-2002 6:58pm I am presently without a job, but I am not unemployed. I would not work if I did not have to. |
| mandy | posted 6-Mar-2002 7:15pm No. If I no longer needed to work, I wouldn't. I would devote my time to my daughter and my SO and write trashy erotica for fun and profit. |
| lion | (reply to mandy) posted 6-Mar-2002 7:30pm You know there is nothing from stopping you from starting to write trashy erotica. Some of your answers from here could be used.. |
| Galomorro | posted 6-Mar-2002 7:37pm Yes, I would love to do this as all work to me is drudgery and uncomfortable. I would buy my own place and hang out there and garden. |
| romkey | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 6-Mar-2002 8:35pm I mostly do savory (egg-based) tarts and frittatas, but I can do a nice omlette... most of the time when I'm making brunch there are too many people that I'm cooking for to make omlettes practical. |
| jettles | posted 6-Mar-2002 8:39pm nope, i would not........ i would continue to volunteer where i do and probably increase my volunteer time and travel time! |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to romkey) posted 6-Mar-2002 8:48pm That's true. I don't make omlettes very often, they just don't ever seem to turn out right for me. |
| Oscar | posted 6-Mar-2002 9:23pm I think I would stay at my current job. I like to work and I go stir crazy if I'm bored. Maybe I'd cut back to part time though. Just for spending money. |
| mandy | (reply to lion) posted 6-Mar-2002 9:26pm Thanks for the encouragement! |
| romkey | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 6-Mar-2002 9:35pm they mostly seem to take patience and slow steady heat. I used to not have the patience but I've gotten better about it. I learned a lot from the first time I made a decent omlette... I was trying to scramble eggs and got a phone call which distracted me long enough that my scrambled eggs turned into an omlette... |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to romkey) posted 6-Mar-2002 10:28pm I'll try and have more patience, but I don't think the phone call trick will work for me. I rarely get phone calls as I don't give out my phone number to very many people. So patience it is. Do you use a non-stick skillet? |
| romkey | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 6-Mar-2002 11:01pm yup, I usually use non-stick with eggs. for a while I actually had the hang of rolling the omlette up by flicking the pan but I doubt I could do that today |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to romkey) posted 6-Mar-2002 11:08pm Why don't you think you can do the roll up trick any more? |
| Zang | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 7-Mar-2002 12:14am It is kind of a long story. I was originally hired to operate a facility for street kids. The organisation that I work for was running it under contract for the people that owned it. They decided to sell it to an other organisation that is now operating it themselves. I'm in the Hospital Employee's Union. Our union contract says that under these circumstances, I become what is known as a "displaced worker". That means that the organisation pays me my usual full-time pay for 6 months, and then the union pays me for the next 6 months. During this time the organisation can put me to work doing whatever they feel I'm qualified to do. In the meantime, any similar position that comes up anywhere in the union, I kind of get first grab at. Nothing's come up. There have been massive lay-offs. April 13th, I'm out on the street. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Zang) posted 7-Mar-2002 12:16am |
| Amanda | posted 7-Mar-2002 12:51am Yes, I would still work. I don't think I'll ever quit my job with the American Cancer Society. I'd go even if they didn't pay me! I also a partner in a company and don't think I'd want to sell my part of it. I love the work. I could never just sit around and do nothing. I'd get so bored. I have to be up and moving all the time. |
| romkey | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 7-Mar-2002 1:30am out of practice... it's all in the wrist and being confident enough to do it... my wrist is out of practice and I'm lacking the confidence now |
| Lex | posted 7-Mar-2002 6:00am Yes I would. I'd become a wine expert, become a writer, learn how to play piano, have holidays, lay in bed, surf the net more, maybe have a small business etc etc. The only problem with this plan is that I dont actually buy any lottery tickets. |
| Cain | posted 7-Mar-2002 7:07am No, although technically i wouldn't be leaving a job so much as my studies. But I'd be out of this place lilke a bat out of hell. |
| Dino | posted 7-Mar-2002 8:47am I guess I would have to set up a shop or small market stall where I could work part-time and have all the holidays I wanted. I could never not work - I'd die of boredom. And the whole point of working is enjoy the days off. |
| CarolL | (reply to romkey) posted 7-Mar-2002 10:10am How do you make a fritatta? It sounds yummy. |
| romkey | (reply to CarolL) posted 7-Mar-2002 10:28am frittata's pretty easy... take some veggies, cheese, (and meats if you want) - roasted red peppers, asparagus, leeks, olives, goat cheese, feta cheese, parmesagn, proscuitto, fresh tomatoes, basil are all good but maybe not together |
| autumnlight | posted 7-Mar-2002 10:42am I would quit my job and instead pay for a dig in Egypt! |
| Zang | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 7-Mar-2002 11:56am It looks pretty unlikely. Only one position came came up that I was really qualified for, I applied for it, and then they laid off a whole bunch of people and someone with more seniority snapped it up. I didn't even get to interview for it. |
| CarolL | (reply to romkey) posted 7-Mar-2002 12:04pm Mmmmmmmmm. Thanks for sharing that. It sounds divine. I'll try it this weekend and let you know. |
| romkey | (reply to CarolL) posted 7-Mar-2002 12:30pm enjoy! i hope it works out well for you |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Zang) posted 7-Mar-2002 12:56pm I feel so bad. I know what it's like to lose your job as I lost mine last month and am still looking. Good luck! |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to romkey) posted 7-Mar-2002 12:57pm Practice boi Practice! I have confidence in you! |
| moonstone | posted 7-Mar-2002 3:03pm If I was still working at my former job, there is NO way I would have stayed if I would have won the lottery! |
| phi | posted 7-Mar-2002 6:28pm I think I'd continue a few weeks or months to finish up the projects I'm working on. I'd probably still want to stay involved after that, but I don't think I'd want a full time commitment. Several of the other things I'd do with my time would be considered by most people to be "work", so I marked the "I would like to work at another job" option. |
| natsim | posted 7-Mar-2002 6:57pm No, I would take up a different job. Maybe study medicine or theology? Work on something else for a while. |
| HareKrishna | posted 7-Mar-2002 10:00pm I would use the money to distribute Hare Krishna books all over Australia & continue working. |
| Zang | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 8-Mar-2002 1:54am Youch! Don't feel bad for me. I'm still getting a pay cheque. I hope things work out for you. What sort of job are you looking for? |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Zang) posted 8-Mar-2002 2:13am At this point I'm willing to take just about anything, but there are not many jobs available in my area except for truck drivers and R.N.'s. and I don't qualify for either of them. |
| Wicksy | posted 8-Mar-2002 6:13am No and anyone that says yes are kidding themselves |
| Maxell | posted 9-Mar-2002 10:36am No, I would retire and start enjoying life. |
| Avocado | posted 9-Mar-2002 11:04am I'd definitely stay in my profession. I'd likely begin founding some agencies. I just got hired at a really cool place but haven't started yet so I don't know if I'd stay there or not yet. |
| Zang | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 9-Mar-2002 6:41pm Wow, that kinda sucks. Where do you live, in some out of the way boonie boonie land? Maybe you need to move closer to a population center. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to Zang) posted 9-Mar-2002 9:05pm I live in Springfield which is next door to Eugene, Oregon (University of Oregon), but part of the problem is that Oregon has the highest unemployment rate in the U.S. which doesn't help matters. |
| Zang | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 10-Mar-2002 12:31am Oh Springfield! Famous place! Have you tried getting a job at the nuclear power plant? I understand that the standards are pretty low there, they'll hire just about anyone. The owner (C. Montgomery Burns) has a reputation for being a little hard to get along with though...maybe the Kwik-E-Mart? |

| Catharsis | (reply to Avocado) posted 10-Mar-2002 10:55am What is your profession? |
| Catharsis | (reply to confetti) posted 10-Mar-2002 10:55am When do you turn 18? |
| confetti | (reply to Catharsis) posted 10-Mar-2002 9:14pm May 24th, 2005...I think. |
| Catharsis | (reply to confetti) posted 11-Mar-2002 5:31am You're terribly eloquent and well versed for someone fo your age. Nice to see. |
| joles | posted 11-Mar-2002 1:51pm I would quit, so some other poor unemployed person could get the job...why would I need to work? I'm financially set for life!! I would rather travel and take classes... |
| confetti | (reply to Catharsis) posted 11-Mar-2002 6:06pm Yeah, I know. I'm not so in real life. In SC I don't see any point in holding up the dumb California chick exterior that makes everyone feel more at ease with me. |
| Catharsis | (reply to confetti) posted 12-Mar-2002 10:56am Is that not living a lie though? Intelligence and knowledge of the proper way to use your language is a gift, wasting it is a shame. |
| confetti | (reply to Catharsis) posted 12-Mar-2002 4:33pm But I'm not wasting it. I throw it all into my story. That's what really counts. |
| Cleo | posted 12-Mar-2002 11:19pm I am presently unemployed but,if I won the lottery I would NEVER EVER work again!!!!!!!!!! |
| Catharsis | (reply to confetti) posted 14-Mar-2002 9:56am Fair enough. I really do hope you manage to publish your books, I'd love to read them. |
| confetti | (reply to Catharsis) posted 14-Mar-2002 11:20am Thank you! |

| jkiehart | posted 16-Mar-2002 12:51pm Yes. My job rocks! |
| Chris2Wright | posted 18-Mar-2002 1:38am If I worked, I'd like to quit it until I needed money again. |
| DeeJay | posted 23-Mar-2002 3:24pm WOW!!, alot of you are unemployed!! I'm 16 and have a job. Get off the computer and go job hunting! heheh. |
| Biggles | (reply to DeeJay) posted 24-Mar-2002 2:37pm I'm 18 and studying for some of the most rigorous academic qualifications you can do in the UK. I'm taking 6 subjects where most people only do 3. I'm hoping to do well enough to go to my first choice university later this year. It might be a tad hard for me to hold down a job at the same time....... That's my situation. Most of the users here at SC are Americans. In case you didn't notice, America is heading into a recession which has been made worse by September 11th and the "war against terror." An awful lot of people are getting laid off and finding that there are no suitable jobs available. Unemployment is going up. Don't think that jobs are easy to come by. People who have just been made unemployed are often very worried about their financial situation and their future. They don't need 16 year-olds telling them to "get off the computer and go job-hunting!" Please take this in the way it was intended - not a telling-off but a suggestion that you should be more thoughtful about what you say in the future....... |
| DeeJay | (reply to Biggles) posted 24-Mar-2002 9:48pm I think you took my statement too seriously, I was joking around. Besides, I havn't noticed much of a change in the difficulty level of finding jobs. But I could be wrong. No offense taken, I understand how my comment could have been mistaken to be rude. But it was not meant to be. |
| Biggles | (reply to DeeJay) posted 25-Mar-2002 11:15am It's always wise to throw a smilie in |
| DeeJay | (reply to Biggles) posted 25-Mar-2002 7:11pm I was going to throw one in...but I don't know how. This'll have to do till you tell me. =) (I know, its boot-leg.) hah! |
| Biggles | (reply to DeeJay) posted 26-Mar-2002 6:48am Go to the help page - they're all on there. |
| bond_girl | posted 27-Mar-2002 6:56am I would quit working as a dancer & would probably set up my own business so I don't get bored. |
| ransmom1984 | posted 1-Apr-2002 9:38pm No, absolutely not. It's time to buy a business and employ those guys who didn't have my unbelievable good luck!!! |

| Catharsis | (reply to Avocado) posted 8-Apr-2002 7:55am What type of psychology? |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 18-Apr-2002 3:59pm I'd be doing the same work I do now which isn't really employment anyhow. I'd probably afford to work on the car more and start looking for a home though. Actually no, I'd do the same sort of work (website and database programming), but I'd do it for charitable organisations. |
| cuteasabutton | posted 30-Apr-2002 2:21am Um- I would kinda have to! I would still have kids.. |
| they | posted 11-May-2002 4:42am I'd go to work and say and do everything I always wanted to but would have gotten fired for... They can fire me whenever they are ready. |
| Glassa | posted 28-May-2002 5:49pm I think I would work part-time. I would get too bored to not work. I hate 3 day weekends, I get so bored. |
| mandy | posted 16-Jun-2002 1:30am No. If I didn't have to work I wouldn't. I've decided. I'd write for pleasure. |
| southernyankee | posted 25-Jun-2002 11:35am Hhhhhheeeellll NO! My current job = crap. If I had won the lottery, I would go and start working a much more interesting job. |
| LuridHope | posted 27-Jun-2002 2:41am No, But I would have to work. Eek. What is life without work... you might as well be a tape worm. |
| bandit1cat | posted 7-Aug-2002 6:51pm I would retire for life. I have no desire to work anyway. I've gone as far as I'm going to in my career, time to give up and retire. |
| tjdelight | posted 13-Aug-2002 3:08pm Heck no... I hate my job! I am a support tech for an ISP so I talk to morons who don't know how to work computers all day! If I had a job that I liked I would still work though (after college I will be a teacher and I would stick with that) |
| Maarten | posted 9-Sep-2002 9:41am Of course not. I work to live, not the other way around. |
