If you won the lottery (enough that you no longer needed to work), would you still go to work at your present job?

How many times have you heard people say "If I won the lottery I wouldn't quit my job".

Would you?

If on the rare chance that I could publish "Quest in the Blue" before I turn 18 I would quit school and do...I don't know what. I don't really think there's much possibility of it, but if they do go into print, I have a feeling they'll be a big deal and not fade into the background like the Phillip Pullman series with only a few die hard fans. Just a feeling.

I will be unemployed in about 6 weeks. If I won the lottery, which would be difficult considering that I don't make a habit of buying tickets, I would probably take it easy for a while, but eventually I would probably want to get back into helping people.

I was trying to scramble eggs and got a phone call which distracted me long enough that my scrambled eggs turned into an omlette... * smile *

I'll try and have more patience, but I don't think the phone call trick will work for me. I rarely get phone calls as I don't give out my phone number to very many people. So patience it is. Do you use a non-stick skillet?

It is kind of a long story. I was originally hired to operate a facility for street kids. The organisation that I work for was running it under contract for the people that owned it. They decided to sell it to an other organisation that is now operating it themselves. I'm in the Hospital Employee's Union. Our union contract says that under these circumstances, I become what is known as a "displaced worker". That means that the organisation pays me my usual full-time pay for 6 months, and then the union pays me for the next 6 months. During this time the organisation can put me to work doing whatever they feel I'm qualified to do. In the meantime, any similar position that comes up anywhere in the union, I kind of get first grab at. Nothing's come up. There have been massive lay-offs. April 13th, I'm out on the street.

How do you make a fritatta? It sounds yummy.
romkey Survey Central Gold Subscriber
(reply to CarolL) posted 7-Mar-2002 10:28am
frittata's pretty easy... take some veggies, cheese, (and meats if you want) - roasted red peppers, asparagus, leeks, olives, goat cheese, feta cheese, parmesagn, proscuitto, fresh tomatoes, basil are all good but maybe not together * smile * sautee in a bit of olive oil the fresh veggies you want in it in a pan the size of the frittata you want - meanwhile mix up some eggs and splash of milk; i use 8 or 9 eggs for an 8" pan - if you're using shredded cheese add it to the egg mixture, also add a touch of salt and pepper, pour the whole mixture in on the veggies when they're ready, then let it sit over medium heat till it starts to firm up. the top should still be a bit liquid... transfer the pan into a pre-heated 350 degree oven; it should take 5-8 minutes for the top to firm up. If you want to run it under a broiler for 30 seconds to a minute that may make it color and puff up nicely but keep an eye on it, it'll burn easily!

I'm 18 and studying for some of the most rigorous academic qualifications you can do in the UK. I'm taking 6 subjects where most people only do 3. I'm hoping to do well enough to go to my first choice university later this year. It might be a tad hard for me to hold down a job at the same time.......

That's my situation.

Most of the users here at SC are Americans. In case you didn't notice, America is heading into a recession which has been made worse by September 11th and the "war against terror." An awful lot of people are getting laid off and finding that there are no suitable jobs available. Unemployment is going up. Don't think that jobs are easy to come by.

People who have just been made unemployed are often very worried about their financial situation and their future. They don't need 16 year-olds telling them to "get off the computer and go job-hunting!"

Please take this in the way it was intended - not a telling-off but a suggestion that you should be more thoughtful about what you say in the future....... * smile *
