Nothing. When I was a kid I would wish on stars and wishing wells.

I make a wish when a eyelash falls out, I'll take it and blow it away and make a a wish. I also wish on stars, birthday cakes, wishing wells, and the thing Jody said about moving the clasp of a necklace to the back of the neck.

I blow out candles, play with dandelions, and struggle for a majority of wishbone, but only for the ceremony and enjoyment of the act itself.

In Spain, there's a tradition: In New Years' Eve, just in the moment when the bells announce 24:00, you must eat a grape with each clock bell, and make a wish

None of these, but I do treat new-years as wishing-times -- the secular new year, the jewish new year, and my birthday all qualify.

Thanks Gilly, we need more whimsical surveys!
* I do it less and less, but I certainly used to do it more. ...and it was always interesting to note what I wished for. Often I wish for good things for other people in my life - I think part of me thinks wishing for someone else is more likely to work ("Oh great universe, look how humble I am - grant me this unselfish wish"). The nerve of me to think I would know someone else's wish!

I've done this since grade school. If you catch a leaf in autumn, just as it falls from the tree and before it hits the ground, I make a wish on it. Also as a girl we'd make wishes when the clasp of a necklace touched the pendant in front, and then move the clasp around to the back.
Jane - yes! I'd forgotten about eyelashes!
jzp - if turnips were watches, I'd wear one by my side....
